I‘m on a 15PM. Still several small bugs, mainly regarding dark/light icons. But what really annoys me is that the keyboard lag from iOS 17 is still NOT fixed. Am I the only one with that problem?! I did multiple resets of my keyboard/dictionary..

No keyboard lag here at all with 15PM

But what I am experiencing is kinda worse.
Used a force restart 2min ago and my phone gets to hot to touch.
Already filed a feedback to Apple.
There are still some major issues with the beta that needs to be fixed before they release it.

As an aside, I’m actually I’m on Watch OS 11 beta alongside iOS 18 too. The new build on that feels like the first great one. I’m wearing it almost all day - feels close to bug free.

Previously there was a bug where notifications weren’t clearing but that’s fixed in the latest.

I’m on the latest regular Apple Watch.

FWIW, I upgraded and everything is great for me. My phone was slow at first but after an hour or so both my phone and watch seem more fluid/responsive, haven't noticed any bugs. Also no battery life issues.

Does your phone gets hot when charging?
How do you charge?
Not nearly had hot as before. I charge using fast charger (supports up to 65w) during the day, and a slow charger during night.

Normally I use a powerbank with magsafe during the day, but haven't used it the lady week or so. When I get the iphone 16 Pro, I'll try to challenge my fear of getting below 70%. I often grab eve magsafe charger when I hit this level. Even though I know it's not recommended to charge more than 80%...

Someone who doesn’t have an Apple Watch?

I don’t know if this is a bug or if that’s how it works now on iOS 18. Let me explain, in iOS 17 my iPhone recorded my hours “in bed” when sleep mode was activated according to the schedule I have programmed.

However, since I updated to the public beta 5 of iOS 18 (it’s my first beta, I can’t know if this happened in the previous betas) my iPhone no longer records these hours “in bed”.

Does it happen to anyone else?

I have the same problem and it has happened since iOS 18 DB1. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

So you never dip below 70% did I understand that right?
I charge to 95% limit as I need that much battery each day.
But the heat that occurs when charging from 40% to 80% is quite heavy, with normal fast charge 20watt adapter from Apple.
Hope that disappears with the end of beta 18.0!

It sometimes drops to sound 50%, but I'm quick to reach out for my magsafe powerbank. After I got more phones to use, I haven't let the iPhone drop much below 70%.

I use my phone pretty heavy. Not for gaming, but the screen time is very hight as I work on my website from it. And, taking photos really takes battery.

Ok, so you pretty much charge it many times on the day?

My KB lag comes and goes but is not steady. It shouldn't be doing this tho. Annoying when it happens although I generally dictate my messages and emails. So it's not to bothersome

Yes. I wonder if i should get the 16 Pro Max because of the battery, but I'm not sure yet. The best would be if Apple bosted the capacity also on the regular size.

Honest question: How do you feel iOS 18.0 at this point compared to iOS 17.6?

I know the logical answer: iOS 17.6 is at this point a polished operating system but, maybe iOS 18 didn’t change so much core code, and there are leaks that said Apple spent some time only fixing bugs at the beginning of iOS 18.

So, those of you running beta 7 on an iPhone 11 or 13, or even 14, how do you feel it compared to the latest iOS 17? Smoother or rougher? Similar battery life or horrible with overheating?

Again, I know it is a beta, but RC is around the corner and maybe this year I will update my devices on the release (or maybe on 18.0.1)

Thanks

There’s not a massive amount worth updating early for in my opinion. 18 feels quite similar to 17.

Don’t see any big bugs yet but you never know what will pop up in the first few weeks after release.

For me this year feels pretty big, and I’m not taking Apple Intelligence into account because my iPhone doesn’t support it.

However, you’re right in that the first few weeks many more bugs can arise. So thanks for your words of caution. I’ll wait until 18.0.1 at the very least.

Thanks. I don’t have an Apple Watch to worry about.

It’s a bit of a mixed bag feature-wise for me. The new Photos app UI is just more complex, it’s not Apple’s finest work.

The new Calendars app is also just ok, nothing special still. Some third parties still have better.

Text effects and more tapbacks in messages are nice little additions but no big deal really.

Not much else there really. No AI in the EU. An ok update but not too exciting.

What you say true as far as it goes... but when designers/manufacturers change up the interface, the app or how something works, we tend to just go along and adapt to the new way. Maybe that's not how it should be, but as a retired mainframe application programmer, I can state with some certainty that sometimes interface changes are necessary to accommodate additional work "down the road"... rarely are things changed just for the sake of change, though that, too, has been known to happen.

I think that the purpose of the UI change in the Photos app is to surface the functionality that was previously within the bottom tabs.

Apple certainly have surfaced the functionality but I don’t that that was the core issue with Photos to begin with.

I think the issue was that there are just too many areas within the app. Sometimes it’s hard for me to find something still, like the screenshots section or something like that.

I think Apple’s solution in Photos may have actually made the app worse to use. The ‘Frankenstein’ interface of the screen always being stuck between the Photos library and the lower content section on freshly opening the app looks untidy and odd. The bottom tabs that were there before at least looked okay.

Apple needs to trim the app down in order to ‘fix’ it - the new UI has just confused it.

Just my 2 cents as an actual UI Designer. I’ve been working on this malarkey for 30 years 🥱
