iOS 18 | More than likely won’t see anything till the Event. We are quite possibly on the RC now, maybe, a few higher builds for the RC next Monday…
iOS/iPadOS 18 Beta 8 seems optimized already. Not like we have much to complain about until the iphone Event.

Looking forward to 18.2, specifically redesigned Mail app, that's going to be one packed update, hopefully, if things go to plan.
I may not remember correctly but I don’t think I ever predicted 18.2 before December.
edit: I looked back and I’ve been pretty consistent with a December release for 18.2. But we’ll see it in beta well before then obviously.

iOS 17.1 was released on October 25th and iOS 17.2 on December 11th.
In between, there were 17.1.1 and 17.1.2 on November 7th and 30th and - of course - the betas of 17.2.
Sounds like a schedule we could be seeing this year too with iOS 18.
Thats messed up by iOS 18.0 w/o AI and iOS 18.1 with AI. While we have 18.2 speculation, what exactly happens after 18.0 wraps up? When will iOS be unified against older devices again?

Will this Mail features, especially categorization, be exclusive to Apple Intelligence devices?
Nope, this is a serverside feature and won’t require 8GB of RAM and therefore will be available for older devices as well.
Source? It is part of the AI package that requires 15 Pro & up according to their Apple Intelligence page (and fully on device).
No source, its my interpretation. Of course, the Writing tools, smart replies and priority suggestions rely on local LLM support, however, the categorization is a PCC feature and a pretty simple one at that so I assume that this won't be restricted to the newer devices and all users will get the new Mail app redesign with categorization features (AI features will be restricted thou)
They will be restricted until everything can be processed on the servers through the cloud, in the meantime it will be processed on the devices and as they have said older devices will also be able to work with AI, simply that they slow down a lot and it will not be adequate or interesting since it will require practically all the memory and other hardware to be able to process and the time will not compensate to run on old devices ranging from the XR to the iPhone 14 Pro.
