That article offers nothing we don’t already know but another good sign.
I even think we will get some new updates for MacOS and watchOS beside iOS and iPadOS. Could be a reason why they took so long with that small update.
if we get 18.0.1 next week which they alluded to as a possibility we will know 18.1 will be coming out later. I still expect 18.0.1 today I charged my phone to get ready for it that's how sure I am. Think the 18.1 beta gets pushed back

They said the same thing about 17.6.2 or something. But it was skipped so wouldn’t hold my breath.
yeah they said it was coming then 17.6.1 had a re-release so they never released it

I think you are correct. As I mentioned above, the 18.0.1 info has the hallmarks of an Apple quasi-press release quality to it. So I think the "next few days" thing is relevant. Apple's first goal remains getting 18.1 out the door so they will stop hearing about how they shipped Apple Intelligence Phones...with no Apple Intelligence.
you are probably correct, but did that article say the next few days? seems like it just said "this week or next week" giving us a wide timeframe
