Build number is now being reported on X for both 18.2.1 AND 18.3 beta 2 which would suggest these are locked and ready to go.

18.2.1 - 22C161
18.3 beta 2 - 22D5040d
A lot of the sites used the Mac Rumors article 18.2.1 coming soon article as a basis of it arriving shortly. A example of being ridiculous in guesses.

Apple’s iOS 18.2.1 is certainly on its way and the upgrade will include security and bug fixes only. It’s hard to know exactly when the latest iPhone update will arrive, as it depends on a number of factors, such as whether it includes urgent security fixes. If so, it could arrive Dec. 23 or even Dec. 24. Other possible release dates for iOS 18.2.1 include, Dec. 27 or Dec. 30 — or the iPhone update might even arrive in January.
You can see absolutely no insight to Apple Employees off for the two weeks, treating them like a company that doesn't offer hardly any vacation days. I guess it's because some confuse the retail sector of Apple with Apple Office workers. :D

Here’s the bottom line: If this is a critical update (e.g., a zero day patch), it doesn’t matter who’s on vacation, it’ll get pushed. If it’s not critical and just a bug tweak then, no, it likely won’t show until after January 1st.

This is the same way any provider of critical services and first responders work.

Releases close to Christmas or New Years. From wikipedia
18.2 Dec 11th
17.2.1 Dec 19th
16.2 Dec 12th
15.2 Dec 13th
14.3 Dec 14th
12.1.2 Dec 17th, rereleased Dec 20th
11.2 Dec 2nd, 11.2.1 Dec 13th, 11.2.2 Jan 8th
10.2 Dec 12th
9.2 Dec 8th
8.1.2 Dec 9th
iOS 7 nothing for Dec

You can look at the possibility of anything occurring this time of the year and the chances are almost nil. There is a big gap of anything being release in the next two weeks looking back 10 years.

Sure if there was a zero day solution ready to deploy, but Apple doesn't do that immediately, it usually got to be thoroughly vetted. Most discovery come from 3rd parties and then its looked at across all OS's as applicable.

Happy Holidays

If there’s anything iOS 18 taught us it’s that the roles from the past don’t apply anymore. There’d been so many firsts which never happened with prior releases so I’d be cautious making any sort of bold predictions with this one.

This is the normal quiet time for software activity from Apple. IOS 18 has moved past it separating AI capable iPhones vs non AI capable iPhones. (18.0/18.1 -> 18.2 unified). Aside from Mondays beta seeding everything appears normal now. 🎄🎅

AirPods are one of the most popular tech gifts during the holidays. In a 2022 Statista survey, headphones and earbuds were ranked as the most sought-after tech gift, with 61 million U.S. adults planning to buy them during the season.
The Apple Watch has become a go-to gift for all ages, and its popularity as a holiday gift continues to grow.
The iPad remains a popular holiday gift, particularly for families and students, thanks to its versatility and range of models catering to different needs.
Despite their popularity, Apple's other flagship products—the iPhone and Mac—are rarely given as gifts. CIRP data indicates that close to 0% of ‌iPhone‌ buyers and just 1% of Mac buyers received their devices as gifts during the holiday season. The reasons for this are relatively straightforward: both products are expensive, and gifting them often involves somewhat more complex buying decisions, such as signing up for carrier plans or selecting memory configurations.
Found that interesting that is almost 0% anyone will gift a iPhone for Christmas. If you get one consider you lead a charmed life with an extraordinary family. 🎅🤶

Is it a Christmas miracle? Beta 2 as a gift from Tim?

I am so used to checking this thread while at work, and it is depressing because I am reminded that Apple has off when my sorry butt has to work today lol.
