You do realize “boring” 18.3 update is the groundwork for 18.4 and beyond? Without this update, iOS 18 would still be littered with bugs and overall not as solid of an OS? Not every update needs to be earth shattering. iOS 18 is the first time we have seen . updates this exciting. We can’t have these updates with a solid build before it.
We do. But we love to complain about it 😂.

I think the vast majority of users don't want to "learn" anything. They just want it to work and will never peek under the hood. And the majority of them will not use AI past a "smarter" Siri or phrase suggestions in messages.
I find myself using Siri more and more. I have had Amazon Alexa and Google Home Assistant for years, but Siri has, up until recently, been, as best as I can describe it, hard of hearing. Now, I am starting to use it more and more. My main use for it is as a spellcheck dictionary.

It’s possible, but I believe that Tuesday beta releases are far more common than Wednesday or Thursday releases. 👍🏻
I suppose it’s going to be today, cause tommorow is a session about AI in Rome

I am hoping for today, but I am guessing it will be tomorrow at the earliest.

Crazy how 18.4 update is more exciting for me than any of the Apple hardware releases in the last serval years. This is the biggest change is iOS in a very, very long time. Exciting times.

There are several reasons I was going with Wednesday. The First, Apple would be still in the 13.2 watch for issues as well as higher server loading including today still. Next vetting 18.4 throughly an extra day so no bad press with first beta 18.4 which has become the most anticipated seeding. Then we have likely non weekly betas at first.

Still boring

Well I would say that iOS 18 itself was a bigger change.

It could be. We’ll see. But I think they’ve likely been spending months vetting 18.4 Beta 1 thoroughly. I don’t think they need an “extra day”. Again, we’ll see if 18.4 beta 1 drops today or later, but I think the “they want/need an extra day to thoroughly vet 18.4” isn’t a very compelling argument to me because they’ve almost certainly been working on this update for months and are probably already working on 18.5 as we speak.

I’m hoping for a beta release today! If it does come a bit later, then I won’t be depressed or anything, but I am really anticipating 18.4 and what new changes it will bring! I’m excited about coming promised improvements to the App Intents structure that apps use to grant Siri and Siri Shortcuts access to app features. It sounds like App Intents will be more automatic when developers are coding their apps in Swift, and so a lot more third party apps would have options on Siri Shortcuts! This alone could be a huge improvement for device automation! And Apple Intelligence’s stacked commands will be very useful as well! I think it will be a major boost for productivity. Already Apple Intelligence has proven to be a nice productivity boost, and the features that are currently out are only the tip of the iceberg! 👍🏻

LOL. They're probably working on 19.0 as we speak.

But your point is good: the features being rumored for 18.4 have definitely been worked on in parallel with the other Apple Intelligence features since well before WWDC. So they are probably as ready as they ever will be to enter the public beta process ("public" as in external to Apple). I am curious about the developer meetings they are holding overseas. The first, as noted above, is tomorrow in Rome. I'm not sure if that portends anything, especially since there don't seem to be any scheduled for the US (yet).

Oh cool, I didn’t see those meetings! That’s pretty promising with the topic being about Apple Intelligence and App Intents! It seems like Apple is going to really push hard for more third party apps to adopt the App Intents framework, which would be awesome because, as I mentioned before, that would make really big improvements for workflow and productivity. One thing that’s always puzzled me is why the Alexa app, for example, doesn’t offer any integration with Siri Shortcuts. You’d think that they would at least offer good widgets for triggering smart-home devices linked with Alexa, but they don’t even do that. Hopefully, with the focus on integrating App Intents into more third party apps, and more of the App Intents system becoming automatic, that will change. I’ve heard consistent rumors that Siri will be able to control any feature of all apps in either a future update of iOS 18, or possibly iOS 19. I don’t know if this is true or not, but with things like on-screen awareness, plus Swift code, this seems fairly probable. 👍🏻

The update of iOS 18 in general? I will have to disagree with that. iOS 18 was a very minor update. Now if you are talking about iOS 18 in regards to Apple intelligences, maybe right up there. But iOS 18 at its core really didn't change much.
I think there are quite a few big improvements with iOS 18 that aren’t part of Apple Intelligence. Of course, what some deem to be big improvements others call a “meh”, but I think there is quite a bit there, it just doesn’t get talked about much. Example: external drive reformatting. This is small to some who don’t use external drives, or never have a need to reformat drives, but to others, this is a major improvement. 👍🏻

But it would be interesting, if 18.3 AI doesn’t work in EU alongside 18.4 for beta testing purposes😀 If they want to teach something in Rome they should have AI enabled in EU💁🏼‍♂️

Oh I don't disagree with this at all. I was just saying that 18.4 is bigger than those things. It changes the way we use our phones. Those things were minor in comparison. This is what everyone that was excited about since WWDC. At least those of us that care about Apple Intelligence.
