I think there is more than a 50% chance that 18.4 is similar to 18.3. No new features until it goes RC and they turn the new stuff on. Siri updates in 18.5, which goes RC in June the same time iOS 19 is announced.

Literally 0% chance. They need users to test Apple Intelligence in Europe and those 9 new languages. Gurman also did say that *some* of the new Siri features come with 18.5, not all of them.

We never had seeding on a holiday that I recall, correct me if I wrong , all we got is Gurman latest feedback.

I hope for everyone that it happens Tuesday so it’s free and clear of the event for separating the news and having Apple not keeping us in suspense for the next day.
I’m not expecting we’ll necessarily get it on a holiday, but I think it will likely come next week. 👍🏻. I think the earlier the better, so Monday would be great, but Tuesday is probably more likely. 👍🏻

Maybe I’m just a pessimist, but I’d argue a language isn’t a feature. And I don’t think Apple wants spellcheck and translation advice from testers. They can add all the code and do nothing with it until RC. That’s what they did with the Visual Intelligence upgrades in 18.3. Maybe that was just a one-off, but I view it as further supporting that they don’t actually want feedback from testers, just crash reports. They have no time to actually listen to feedback. Rush rush rush with no pivot when they do something dumb. Again, I’m just a jaded pessimist. I hope I’m wrong.

I really doubt that. I think there will definitely be some nice new improvements with the 18.4 beta.
Aside from enthusiasts not knowing full details of what’s new with 18.4 it’s been pretty much repeat of 2023 as far as the delay. It’s like did we make as much fuss back then, probably somewhat. It’s just AI has been used by Apple as a terrific upgrade to migrate to (believing is seeing) and we are still in the wishing phase without the first beta of it to enjoy or complain about. :D

I doubt that 18.4 will just be another 18.3 that doesn’t add any new features. With the number of promised iOS 18 features that haven’t debuted yet, I’m guessing they will want to incorporate some of them in 18.4 rather than trying to incorporate all of them in 18.5. Just because some of the features anticipated in 18.4 are rumored to be not ready doesn’t mean there will be nothing new in 18.4. And let’s not forget that the same sources also inaccurately said that 18.3 would add some features previously slated for 18.4, which proved to be completely wrong. So it’s very possible they’re wrong and nothing’s been “delayed” at all. But even if they’re right and some of it has been delayed, I’m guessing there should still be some nice improvements included.

I’m not expecting much new on the AI front for 18.4. I think we’ll definitely get sketch style for image playground, and maybe priority notifications. But I’m starting to think things like on screen awareness and personal context will be pushed back.

And if that does happen, it gives Gurman a little more credibility.

How would that give Gurman more credibility? He’s been saying for months that 18.4 will be a big update for AI stuff, and then when he gets closer and gets cold feet and says “Apple pushed it back” (when they may very well have never planned it for 18.4 in the first place) somehow makes him more credible? I don’t think so. That just doesn’t follow…

As to what I think 18.4 will offer, I don’t know that all of the Siri enhancements will come, but I’m guessing some of them will probably come, and/or at least some new Apple Intelligence features. With Apple releasing new hardware soon, I’m guessing they will want to have some “coming in iOS 18.4” features for customers to look forward to using on their new device. I could be wrong, but that makes sense to me. After iOS 18.3 not adding a single surface-level change short of some uncharacteristically extremely minor changes like correcting a Settings button that should have been corrected in 18.2, I really don’t think Apple can afford to waist more time with no new features in 18.4 as well… I’m very confident we will see some new features in 18.4, even if we don’t get all of the Siri or Apple Intelligence features dropped at once.

Say what you want about Gurman, but he has sources. Sometimes those sources are wrong. But his reporting gives us a better idea of what’s coming than all of us saying “I think I think I think” all the time.

And there’s nothing wrong with speculation. But we’re all wondering when updates are coming, and Gurman is trying to give us nuggets of information. And sometimes he’ll be wrong, but he’s correct more often than not. I really don’t understand all the hate he gets, like it’s not that serious lol.

It was just using 2023 from the 24 days delay history. I never compared 18.4 to that year or feature set. I added the clarification. :)

I don’t hate Gurman, and I understand why he’s often inaccurate, and I’ve repeatedly explained that it’s not all his fault. I just take his predictions with a heavy dose of salt these days because his accuracy has dramatically plummeted the last couple years. At least I’ve noticed a big decline in his accuracy. I’ve already explained that it isn’t all his fault, and it’s nothing personal against him or anything, he just often seems to be guessing, and whenever he is wrong, it seems conveniently framed like Apple “delayed” it rather than him just admitting he was wrong. I highly doubt that Apple is constantly delaying everything he’s claimed was delayed, it’s far more likely in many cases that he just had bad info, and Apple is releasing things exactly when they planned to…. I think that’s part of what people laugh at with Gurman. It would be one thing if he had bad info, and when he turned out to be wrong he just admitted “hey guys, I had bad info”, instead of what he’s gotten into the habit of doing claiming virtually everything is “delayed” when he gets it wrong…

There’s also the fact that we have plenty of features not even related to Apple Intelligence that might come to 18.4 as reported on by 9to5Mac a couple weeks ago.
Redesigned mini player in the music app with new gesture controls.
Redesigned airplay and SharePlay UI.
Visual intelligence control center toggle.

Yes, exactly. 👍🏻. I doubt those kinds of improvements would be delayed, even if we don’t end up with some of the more complex AI stuff. 👍🏻
