I don't think the event will be on September 3rd though because that's the day after Labor Day and Apple has been providing 2 weeks notice for events. Since nothing was announced today, I'd rule that out. In 2022, the event was held on a Wednesday (September 5th), and the same week as Labor Day. If that is to happen this year, then we should see the invite by tomorrow. That would avoid the debate competition point, and not be unprecedented by Apple, while also aligning with the theory as to why Beta 7 is the last beta.
In recent years, Apple has sent out invites for their September event at 9 AM PT 2 weeks in advance. With it now being past 10 AM PT and 2 weeks out from Wednesday, September 5th, it looks like that is not going to be the date. It seems very likely that it will be September 10th (they won't hold the event on 9/11).

This means that if we don't receive a Beta 8, we are likely 20 days from the GM.

We will for sure get a beta 8 - it needs to be done so much more in my eyes, especially heat and battery idle drain issues !

I normally would agree, unless this guy is right:

You misunderstand Gurman, he just says there won’t be any new features integrated anymore until release.
No words about how many betas are still being rolled out to us!

Why so many misunderstand him?
I don’t get it 😂

Gurman’s tweet was quite ambiguous. I don’t read it the way you do. I don’t think it’s possible to draw any conclusion from what he said.

Those are normal during beta season and can be the result of all the logging and other things Apple is doing in the background. They don’t usually optimize for battery life until the very end.
So fingers crossed with beta 8 or RC it will get better, you say?

Almost certainly. With the RC, they’ll remove all the logging stuff, which uses battery and computing resources. Things should get much smoother from here.
Do I then have to do anything else? Disable something? Or nothing else to do for me?

I suppose any of us could have interpreted him wrong, but the fact he quoted the Beta 7 release, and said "The latest iOS 18 seed, I’m told, is final other than features tied to the new hardware.", seems to indicate that he thinks Beta 7 is the last beta. Beta 7 also introduced no new features over Beta 6, but we still received Beta 7. See how that doesn't really make sense?

I guess we will see next Monday/Tuesday, if he is wrong or right

If we read that 9to5mac article, they are saying:

“Gurman’s sources tend to be reliable. However, his post is not entirely clear.

  • it’s possible he’s saying that today’s iOS 18 beta is the final beta until the iPhone 16 debuts
  • it’s also possible Gurman simply means there are no new features coming to future betas before the iPhone event.”
So, indeed, it can be interpreted either way:

Seems like we go over this every year, but there's a build that needs to be "Feature Complete" so they can flash that onto the New iPhones that are most likely being boxed up as we speak. That's why there's almost always a week one "point point" update to catch everyone up after release, while everyone else continues testing 18.1, which will have any new features yet to arrive.

Usually it's this time frame where we go 2+ weeks or so until the RC is released, and that's usually after the new iPhone announcement, as to keep any new hardware released features under wraps as long a possible.

Yea, I am taking Gurman's tweet at face value. To be honest, I have zero clue how 9to5mac is getting the second bullet from his tweet.

I guess this is because of timing. Usually there is a two week gap between the latest beta and the RC, which is released after the new iPhones are announced. If we assume that the new iPhones will be announced on 10 September, then we still have next week for another iOS 18.0 beta, followed by this two week gap.

Bug in ios 18.0 for me. Type “”: plus another character after the : and my spotlight crashes. They say it doesn’t affect iOS 18… so another beta coming to fix this… btw this happens in iOS 17 too.

The problem only affects typing in Spotlight Search from your iPhone’s Home Screen or the App Library search bar.

Just what @gwhizkids said about iOS 18.1

iOS 18.1 is expected to release in late October, and iOS 18.2 should follow in mid-December.

As much as I appreciate the shout out, I’ve actually been pushing for a more aggressive timeline on 18.1, suggesting that it might come out in late September or early October, not late October. But the December timing for 18.2 has been something I have been saying.
