iPadOS 26 dev beta 1 is basically unusable with an external screen. Crashes way too much.

Here is my iPad Pro M4 using my 2010 27" iMac Core i7 as an external screen, via Mini DisplayPort.

BTW, window resizing is very jittery when streaming Netflix video at the same time. Netflix does play audio fine out of the iMac though.

Question: I installed iOS 26 on my iPhone 14 Pro and on my Apple Watch 9. I know I can’t roll back the Apple Watch OS, but will the watch still work if I roll back my iPhone to iOS 18? Thanks..

it's like....you have a laptop or a desktop...hard to tell the difference at this point...insane that it took Apple this long to get to this point for iPadOS....just insane...

CarPlay widgets are hit or miss. I tried adding Alarm and but it’s not adding to CarPlay. Also taking a screen shot while connected to CarPlay would take a pic of that too.

Agreed. I tried Carplay Widgets this morning, and scrolling up and down between the widgets was very problematic. Most of the time it opened a widget, when I was trying to scroll to a different widget. It was pretty frustrating. I couldn't imagine scrolling through widgets when I was actually driving. Hopefully they smooth this funtion out in the upcoming betas.

Anyone else have issues with WiFi calling? It only works when I am in airplane mode. If I arrive home, it will never use WiFi calling. It just stays connected to WiFi but never says “WiFi calling”. So it’s going to use my weak cellular connection for calls which is bad for battery too

Major bug alert.

My wallpaper kept changing every second like a disco, phone crashed and is now in a new white screen recovery mode, never seen before so must be new? My iPhone had a random full storage message so maybe it filled up and caused crash?

Doing the recovery, seemed to do something and is now booting… interesting. Just booted back to recovery lol, time to reset phone :D

I’ve got my old iPhone 11 out of a drawer and put this beta on it. I wasn’t expecting to like the ‘liquid glass’ look from screenshots, but it’s much better in person I feel.

Apple’s new app icons definitely look better to me on the device than in screenshots.

I prefer the ‘liquid glass’ look in light mode compared to dark mode.

As others have said, they definitely need to do something with notifications and control centre transparency, to improve the readability in certain situations. (The same goes for the tab bars at the bottom of apps, sometimes they’re hard to see, let alone read, depending on what content is underneath them.) But I have confidence that they’ll have refined it by public launch.

I’ve used Safari with the address bar on the bottom ever since that option was introduced a few years ago. However, I didn’t like the look of the bottom bar in iOS26, nor at the top, so I’m using ‘compact’ and actually much prefer this new option. I’d like them to add something visual to indicate there are more tabs open.

I like the new look and functionality of the Phone app’s ‘recents’ call list. (i.e Clicking on a name/number won’t call it.)

I like that when you select text and there’s more options than cut, copy, paste, clicking on the arrow then shows a full listed menu. (See screenshot.)

I’ve noticed that the blue colour used for the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons in Control Centre are different in light mode to dark mode. (They’re the same blue in each mode on 18.4.1)

Camera app seems less cluttered, which is nice.

Notification stacks seem smooth to open and close, unlike the jankiness I’m encountering since 18.4.

All in all, I don’t think it’s a bad beta 1. Looking forward to seeing how they improve the ‘liquid glass’ effects over the summer.

Doesn’t seem to want to let me into any mode, maybe im doing wrong but following step guides….
Step 1. Connect iPhone 14 to computer with a USB Lightning cable.

Step 2. Press Volume Up button and quickly release. Press Volume Down button and quickly release. Now press the Side button for 10 seconds. At this point your iPhone’s screen will go black.

Step 3. Keep the Side button pressed and then press the Volume down button for 5 seconds.

Step 4. Now let go of the Side button but keep pressing the Volume Down button for 10 more seconds. iPhone display will remain black during this time.

Step 5. Now connect your iPhone 14 to computer and launch iTunes or Finder. You should see a message saying “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.”.

Step 1 is important for DFU mode to work.

I’m in a weird recovery mode somehow… its flashing two animated iPhones and allowing iPad to restore/update.. update didn’t work and gave error… so shall try other option haha

So the issue, somehow over 200gb data randomly filled up my phone so I got stuck in the boot loop but iOS 26 must have a new recovery mode, but im guessing it isn’t clearly any cache or files to free up space.

Somehow got into recovery mode using iPad.. so should gain access, odd bug.
