OK, iPhone - do your worst:
oh,

Looks like I'll have to do this from itunes then.
I will report back if there are any additional hiccups.

All fixed, had to upgrade whilst plugged in, but that does not bother me.
All shiny with the camera button - looking for other nuances on the 3gs, but I'm certainly positive.

Thanks again people.

Do you read at all? No one thinks it is new. We think they removed the option for 4s users. Now it seems like only AT&T users can't use it. BUT NO OTHER DEVICE BESIDES THE iPHONE 4S. ALL PREVIOUS IPHONES HAVE NEVER LOST IT.

Possibly. I'm not sure for the Verizon or Sprint users.

never seen this on my Verizon iPhone 4. I just upgraded to 5.1. Not an option for me.

What is the new update (5.1) like on the Ipad 2? Any difference in performance?

What about the 4S? Sounds like no one has mentioned complaints so far..

I tend to stop updating when a new device comes out because Apple typically releases software that cripples the old hardware.. Not sure if I should update my ipad 2 or not for this reason.

I assume Iphone 4S should be fine though?

I updated iPad 2 and iPhone 4S last night, both working just fine.

I know the iPad 3 has better colour saturation, but is it me or does this seem to affect the iPhone 4S as well? My icons seem to have a more saturated look, guess it is just placebo?

iPhone 4 feels faster after 5.1.

I don't have any stats but just using it things feel crisper. Especially the time it takes to show the home screen after unlock.

I like the new swipe camera from the lock screen also but I wish it was on the left side of the screen just above the regular swipe to unlock. My thumb naturally goes to the left of the screen after years of swipe to unlock.

Regardless, great update.

i noticed that when you open the camera from the lock screen you can see your photos even though i have a password on my phone :eek: Hopefully this gets fixed!

no you can't. This was beat to death when the original method was to double click the home button.

I couldn't agree more. I am very happy with 5.1 the system seems to be more stable and it is quicker. Did the over the air update so I am very happy with the results thus far.

I got this error, but just went back to the update part and it still had the 5.1 download. Clicked it and it installed the second time with no problem.

Dude, read your emails :p

I had 93 new voicemails on my office phone. Only deleted them because the box got full. I get the voicemails as emails now and I got lazy deleting them on the actual office phone.

5.1 on iPad 2

I installed 5.1 on my iPad 2 last night, and I definitely notice speed and performance improvements.

It is especially noticeable in Safari. Pages load quicker from the bookmark list or when clicking on a link in a page.

Also, when I'm on a site, I like to open a lot of new pages in background tabs and then go through and read them all. In the past, on many sites, it wouldn't load the page until I clicked on the tab, now the page is all loaded and ready to go when I open that tab, which is a nice time saver.

For the iPad 2 I am very happy with this release.

Not as happy on my iPhone 4S. Battery seems to drain quicker. Also, as others have pointed out the location services arrow stays on for 5 secs or so after you exit an app that was using location, such as the camera.

It sounds like you meant to say "couldn't agree more"

The SMS sound stutter bug is still present on 5.1 even after doing a fresh install and setting my 4S as new.

Poor show Apple :mad:

I wish they would of added the on/off switch on 3G. I get from 1 bar to full bars at my house. Some areas I get 1 bar.

Oh sorry, I get 1 bar of "4G" .. I wonder. Will they add a on/off for 4G now? Hmm..

Booooo. iOS 5.1 no longer lets you hide newsstand with the folder glitch....

Well this sucks... having to waste a whole page for the eyesore that is newsstand. I which they would just add a feature to hide any apps from the springboard. You still have them and can get them through search, but yeah...

mines still hidden in its folder?

resolved buzzing noise!?

Installed iOS 5.1 on my 4S and here's my thoughts so far:

- seems it fixes the buzzing noise of the 3G module (that static buzzing noise that can be heard when you make a call in the earpiece and also if you put your ear on the back of the phone - also that noise appears to some 4S when recording videos) - that would be absolutely wonderful if they resolved this trough the 5.1 update; haven't made many calls so far but first call I had I was surprised by the silence in my earpiece when the other person didn't speak, I was used to hear constant buzzing on the 3g module; fingers crossed! it's another phone without that buzzing!

- seems it brings better power management - what everybody is talking - I did not have the problem of power drainage but I was getting 4 1/2 hours of usage (and 10-15 hours of standby) and not very happy with it because in days that I wanted to stay longer online I got 20% before getting home and had to plug it to charge; now it stayed at 100% after 25 minutes of use, but lost 8% overnight, now 2 hours of usage and 70%; I will see how it goes in the following days but it seems to me there is a 10% improvement in battery time overall;

- I got used the double click then tap camera icon (found this very useful), now have to slide-up camera icon, well I'll get used to that; nice that you can lock by swipe down;

- internet tethering is working now! Vodafone (Romania) said I can use it but my 4S/5.0.1 did not work (tethering keeps on rolling the wheel) - now with 5.1 it's working - I have tethering on the main Setting page below wi-fi; now is asking for a carrier update - I suppose is best not to do this update as long it works, maybe the update will screw tethering again, am I right?

- I don't see an improvement in speed - nor I expected that, the 4S is very quick on any iOS5;

- did get the option to turn off 3G - that is a problem as when 3G is disabled and you are using data you can't receive calls - I tried that: turned off 3G (a point appeared instead of 3G sign) then opened the facebook app and browsed, and called my mobile from another phone and that call doesn't go trough but diverts to the voicemail - therefore I have to keep on 3G if I don't want to miss any calls;

Conclusion: 4S <3 iOS 5.1

Hate to use that well-worn cliche, but things are much snappier on my 4, quite impressed with it, certain apps do load alot quicker, like 'settings' (which I'm constantly in & out of).

I'm liking the new lock screen, the camera slide is really handy and I like the visual of the short slide bar, makes it a little fresher after years of the full length one (no jb here so never changed it, lol)

Too early to tell about the battery though. Apple did well... Just a shame there's still no shortcut switches to things like wifi, b/t, 3G etc on the notification menu :( Hey ho, maybe in iOS6 :D

very impressed so far

being able to remove the 3G toggle has been very good as it has helped battery life for sure. Means no longer having it on when at home.

Why on earth does that happen? turning 3G off shouldn't stop you from receiving calls.

is have a factory unlocked 4S,live in Cyprus (Vofafone) and can confirm that the disable 3G toggle is present... Thank God
