So far the only thing I am not too happy about is they patched the ability to use safari links to jump to key settings (like Wifi and Bluetooth). All of my toggle icons don't work anymore.

I really do not want to jailbreak. Come on apple how hard would it be to add a control panel to the message centre drop down?

I drive a lot with my job and always forget to turn off the Bluetooth in my car. Sometimes I am still close enought for it to keep jumping back and forth. I hate messing around in settings to turn it off and then remembering its not on after I pull away again and have to fumble with my phone at the next light.

No 3G toggle on Sprint (4S) and I really need it. What is the rationale for not having it on every phone? None of the three major carriers have the toggle? WHY?

Yeah battery related

When you have 3G on and you are in an area with no 3G coverage it keeps, searching for a connection which hurts battery life... Also no point having 3G on when you are at home on wifi....

Would it still search for 3G even if it has a wifi connection though?

I think it must do as since I updated and switched off 3G my battery life at home on wif has been great

I'm at

4 hours, 34 minutes usage
18 hours, 12 minutes usage

47% left

I normally don't get usage like that until I reach about 26-28%

Ahhh. It's a call forwarding icon! Except that I had it turned off. Just toggled it and it disappeared. Odd. But when I turn call forward on it slows up again.

This is new I think

I use Call Forwarding daily on the AT&T network when I arrive home. With 5.1, it now occasionally disappears. This morning the indicator was off but call forwarding was still active. Needless to say, I missed 3 calls this morning cause the indicator was off.

noticed that the awdd crash log in the diagnostic and usage data is no longer there anymore.. i guess thats a good thing, the iphone will not be wasting cycles writing error logs and sleep properly, hopefully some battery gain..

question: can anyone comment on the battery usage when connecting your iphone using the apple supplied connector and hdmi cable? previously when i watched movies using iphone 4, the battery drain after a 2 hr movie was around 20% or so, now after i watch a movie, the battery drain is like 50% or so. I cannot believe this much rapid drain although the 4s is probably working a lot more than the iphone 4 which was not designed for it but still did it anyways..

I installed 5.1 on my iPad 2 last night, and I definitely notice speed and performance improvements.

It is especially noticeable in Safari. Pages load quicker from the bookmark list or when clicking on a link in a page.

Also, when I'm on a site, I like to open a lot of new pages in background tabs and then go through and read them all. In the past, on many sites, it wouldn't load the page until I clicked on the tab, now the page is all loaded and ready to go when I open that tab, which is a nice time saver.

For the iPad 2 I am very happy with this release.

Not as happy on my iPhone 4S. Battery seems to drain quicker. Also, as others have pointed out the location services arrow stays on for 5 secs or so after you exit an app that was using location, such as the camera.
Same here. iPad works fine but battery drain issue still on going with iOS5.1 update and iPhone 4S. My battery drained 13% overnight sitting at idle. :(

liking 5.1 so far. Im not gonna be that one guy that complains about battery drain and all but I did notice a slight difference (bad) in battery. I was at 25% made a 3 min phone call and it dropped to 20% within just that one call. I did do a battery cycle (let it drain and turn off and charge it back up to 100%) I will see how that affects it. If not then gonna do a clean restore. Other than that im liking IOS 5.1 specially photo stream update! no more random pictures of my food

I'm liking 5.1. Seems like my iPhone 4 is running a bit more nicely than when it was on 5.0.1. Liking the new camera slide-up on the lock screen for quick shots, and the Bluetooth works perfectly with the Clarion radio in my car again like it did on iOS 4 :D

BTW It's not just AT&T that doesn't have the 3G toggle. I'm on Three in the UK and don't have it.

3 UK doesn't have a GSM network, it's exclusively UMTS/3G.

As for Verizon and Sprint, they are CDMA2000 networks and they don't fallback to 2G which explains the lack of a 3G disable toggle.

3 has a deal with other networks I believe so it can drop down to their 2g network if their reception is thin.

The 3G toggle on 4s is not available for AT&T customers for some reason.

Other carriers it is now available like Rogers in Canada and also in the UK.

Fail.

Small detail I've noticed. If I use an app that utilizes GPS (e.g. Weatherbug or Find My Friends), I've noticed that upon closing the app, the GPS icon stays in the status bar much longer - it doesn't immediately shut off. Not sure if this will accumulate battery usage over time or not.

I didn't read every post, so this may have already been covered.

iPhone 4 - Verizon Wireless.

I couldn't agree more! My favorite new features are the photo stream deletion and the lock screen swipe- camera. I have had NO APP CRASHES THANK GOD! Plus, the keyboard doesn't lag when typing in Safari. Overall, 5.1 is WAY more stable than its predecessor. I'd like to see what undocumented features have been added, though!
