iPad 3 has wifi direct as well, and here come she real reason

All iPads have dual band a/b/g/n support. Only the iPad 4's has WiFi Direct abilities.

And you will see iPad 3 has wifi direct also. The real reason is due to different wifi chips. The new chips in iPad 4 allows you maintain a wifi Internet access while at the same time use wifi direct. But the chip in iPad 3 won't be able to do so.

Check:

That should explain why. Since ipad 3 also has wifi direct.
Pity it won't be able to come to ipad 3.
Unless they enable iCloud for airdrop as alternative, you know, send files via iCloud to your contacts who has iOS products....

My phone has more voice minutes than I know what to do with but not enough data. I certainly do not want it to default to FaceTime unless I'm on wifi. And even then, unless it can seamlessly transfer to a phone call when leaving wifi, I'd want to be asked first.

Also remember... FaceTime Audio calls, FaceTime videos, and iMessages are secure communication - they're ENCRYPTED! (YAY!) Can anyone say N-S-A.

Check this :)

In the weather app tapping on the temperature reveals more details...

Also when you get to app switcher from an app you can close the very app you were in... Something which wasn't possible before...

iPad 3 does not have WiFi Direct, a prerequisite for airdrop to function

----------

Can anyone else confirm this behaviour ?

You will see iPad 3 in the lift of apple devices with wifi direct .

Someone a few pages back mentioned not being able to play all songs by artist anymore. Is this true? Can anyone post screenshots of the music app, going into artists where it lists all that artists songs with the option to shuffle? Also, in the music app, you can still rerrange the icons on the bottom right?

You still can on all counts. It's nicer as you get all the album art too.

The songs under artist are arranged by album, haven't found a way to play all so far. I hadn't noticed until now... Even if I go to Songs and then search by Artist, the songs are still grouped. Maybe someone else will find a way...

@QuarterSwede: Have you been able to get it to shuffle ignoring album groupings, though? I haven't.

Following that logic, most WiFi devices have WiFi Direct because of their ability to make ad-hoc networks. It just isn't called such. But only the iPad 4's is a simultaneous radio type chip.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, but in the today view, underneath the weather summary, it just told me "Right now, it would take you about 2 minutes to drive to Poplar" when I tapped on that, it brought up Maps with driving directions. I can't get it to come up anymore though, so no screenshot unfortunately!

Yes and no. If you try to play all the songs by a particular artist (and/or shuffle them) and you only have one album by them, you'll be fine. You run into a problem if you have multiple albums. The songs are sorted by album, so you can just shuffle/play all the songs in an individual album by a specific artist. Once that album is over, the music app just stops, it doesn't go on to the next song.

But yes, you can still rearrange icons.

Does the Music app have any Up Next functionality? Can you queue songs?

Do app folders look like the screen shot below (from the Apple iOS 7 video) in beta 1?

Not that I can find yet. Hopefully that's coming.

That's very surprising, considering the fact that it was added to both iTunes and to the iOS Remote app. I thought it would be a shoe-in for iOS 7.

I hope it's added in the final release, as that's a feature that I've really wanted for a long time.

I wish I had the same success. My iPhone 5 on iOS 7 went from 75% to 28% in 2 hours today WITHOUT me touching it. Also, I turned off LTE beforehand. I was in class. I took the phone out of my pocket and it was hot as if it was laying in the sun. This was an extreme loss of battery.

I don't know how this could have happened. I turned off location and background processes to see if that will help. I know this is a beta, but I never had such an extreme loss of battery like this. Has this happened to anyone else running iOS 7?

I actually had pretty decent battery life. I was on LTE with a low-ish signal (two bars) and pretty light usage and it was about the same as my Samsung Galaxy S3. I had WiFi on (but wasn't connected to a network) and Bluetooth disabled, and automatic app updating turned off.
