iOS 8 Notification Center Widget Megathread

Is there any iTunes remote widget ?

This is just a concept

Nice work, I would definitely use this if available. You got me thinking of another potential widget, one for the appletv remote app... That would be sweet!

What the hells a sticky?

It is a thread that has been pinned to the top of the relevant forum so it always stays at the top of the list and is visible.

So if you go to this link you will see the sticky threads at the top.

What happened to the images?

They were the most informative part oft his thread!

It would be good if you wouldn't quote the complete topic start but only the part at the bottom (in which i already mentioned that when i first start adjusting this wiki a few days ago that there weren't any images in it (anymore?).

Have you read previous posts such as this one.
A few days ago when i started to update the topic start post with App Store links and added categories there were no images in the topic start post. I will add images for the ones of which i think are most interesting.

There is also a limitation in the amount of images per start post of 40 and as you can see by the list there are a lot more apps with widgets/widgets out there already so please tell me which ones deserve an image and which ones don't? Also the App Store links bring you to the images in the App Store on both your iDevice and desktop/laptop.

Quick-Tap is such an amazing widget (it was already available for a long time in the topic start and has been in the App Store since September). I just bought it (in-app purchase) and really love it.

Features:
- direct post an e-mail/sms/imessage/whatsapp/facebook messenger to someone
- directly call/facetime someone
- directly navigate to your Home with Google Maps or Apple Maps
- has tons of apps which can be opened directly from the notification center (not all, the app has to support it)

Can be done but needs some extra work from the user:
- post a tweet (can be set via Add Item > More > Browse to.. type in Url: twitter://post?message)
- quickly access Settings options e.g. WIFI, General Use can be done in a similar way as mentioned with posting a tweet. (how to).

Missing options (hopefully in an update, if Apple allows them to):
- post a facebook message on facebook (it does support facebook messenger)
- send a message via Telegram to someone
- cannot sort/move the apps/links in row (only edit/remove)
- cannot add your own icons to e.g. Safari links for e.g. Settings, Quick Twitter post

It's very similar to 'Launcher' which was removed from the App store.

Weather Underground is fairly good but only has the current day. The Weather Channel and AccuWeather also have widgets.

The Accuweather widget doesn't work for me. It is always blank as if it is waiting to load, but it never does.

i believe as most of these it only works if you have location services enabled in the AccuWeather app.

Thanks. I thought I had it turned on, but had it marked as Never for some reason.

Still haven't found a decent quick note taking app while in drop down notification window (like PCalc for calculator function).

I did try Neato App, but the keyboard was rubbish, small and not that useful. It's an ok app, but if you are OCD with the way app look, function and feel, you will not be happy with it.

I guess, i've been spoiled by PCalc and they set the bar pretty high for me for well functioning and designed notification widget. I really enjoy how the PCalc widget is almost completely hidden, until you tap the arrow icon and then the digit keyboard opens up. It's perfect.

(rant off)

I like dark sky to let me know when it is going to rain it is far more accurate then anything else.

+1 for DarkSky.
Very accurate and quickly loads up with drop down notification menu and you don't have to have "always on" for location services, "while using" works perfectly well.

Wasn't knocking your work. Regardless, the first post was far more helpful when it was filled with images.

Maybe MR should remove the limitation for wiki threads such as this one.

Maybe someone has the time to put in the effort.

Thanks for taking the time to organize the info

What is the difference between this (in App Store) and Launcher (pulled out)?
I really don't understand the way Apple accept/pull apps...

Difference is quick tap doesn't allow you to change the icon..for now. Their FAQS did mention that their next update will let us to change the icon but it's been almost month and a half since last update. I don't know when they'll update the app, really hoping it'll be soon though because this app has a lot of potential to be great like Launcher.

Not 100% sure on this but i think part of the difference is that Launcher did things directly from the notification centre. The other similar apps that i've tried seem to only open their app from the notification centre and then from their app do what is required. I suspect this small difference is what makes it possible to avoid being pulled from the app store.

I also don't think you can launch third party apps from another app in notification center. Twitter and facebook are allowed because they are part of iOS.

Quick question. Sorry if this has been addressed a thousand times already.

Do widgets run in the background and use resources/battery? Or do they only "launch" when you open up Notification Center?

The battery on my IP5 is pretty weak and I don't want anything running in the background if it is going to put further strain on the battery.

The yahoo weather app widget is the best

But a few things I don't like

For the widget you have to leave location services on for the app or the widget won't work , other apps you can set the default location in manually & the widget works

Another thing the yahoo weather app can send u push notifications in the morning & at night , but in order to have this working you need to turn on app refresh in background settings

If they would also add the weather in the icon like weather live , that would make this the perfect weather app

What other weather apps will allow you to have the widget work with a set location without the need for location services? I think the only one I've come across personally has been Weather Underground.

Based on personal experience, they refresh every time you use NC. And they are not battery drainers so don't worry!
