It's frustrating that Apple announced widgets for the Notification Centre and now is paring what functionality can be used. If an app or widget is safe to use, why not just let us use it as a widget? This is the side of Apple that drives me bonkers!

Short of some public information about it, it's hard to say why something has been removed (and even if has been for good).Nice one! I added a screenshot and link to the start post.
It seems another widget (TaptoShare) was removed from the App Store. I can't find anything on the removal on the website of the official website.
These are now removed recently (by Apple or maybe by the developer but i believe it was Apple in all cases):
- TaptoShare
- Launcher
- Paste+
- Favorites Widget
I already read that we can expect that Neato will soon also be removed by Apple but that one is still in the app store and is even 1.99 instead of free so it seems.
Because Apple has guidelines as to what fits or doesn't fit within the iOS ecosystem. They always have. Nothing new or surprising there.
That's part of the whole point behind it. Widgets aren't supposed to be apps or mini versions of apps.True but the issue is some of this functionality can be done in an app but not from the app's widget. That limits what widgets can achieve. And some of the real use cases for a widget such as an app launcher is not allowed. To not be allowed to launch another app that has been approved by Apple and installed by the user is crazy just because Apple don't want you launching apps this way.

That's what the current policy is for widgets. That's how Apple envisions their functionality. There are many things that people have asked as to why can't they be done or why Apple isn't doing them from the early days of iOS. That's the design and that's what iOS entails--people know this and factor this into their decisions as to what device and OS to use. All of this is to say that it's nothing new or inconsistent with what Apple has always been doing with iOS. There's always room to want something else and/or more and forums upon forums can be filled with things of that nature. But this isn't really the thread about that (and plenty of those alresdy exist), so not really much more to say about it.In Apple's eyes. Why can't a widget be a mini app with a subset of features just a swipe away? Apple already do this with their music player.
I know they want it purely for information and if you want to do more, you tap on that information and it opens up the app. Why have to open up that app when you could do it right there from the Notification Centre - within reason of course?
Apple also do similar with quick replies. Before, when you got the notification of a message for example, tapping on it would open up messages. Now you can swipe and reply straight from the Notification. Apple know full well this is a time saver but they aren't willing to let third party apps do this and then let the user decide if that app is worth installing and using.
This is the same Apple that approved a flappy bird game clone widget so you can play a game right in your NC!

Seem to remember when i first looked at Neato on the app store it said in the details that it was "free for the time being" or something along those lines. I downloaded it whilst it was free not sure if i would use it but to make sure i could get it again without having to pay for it!I already read that we can expect that Neato will soon also be removed by Apple but that one is still in the app store and is even 1.99 instead of free so it seems.
Anybody else experiencing this? I experienced this with yahoo weather too. Tried reinstalling it with no luck.

Music Center Adds Your Music Library to Notification Center
Looks like a nice concept, but it's buggy. Sometimes won't load my library, sometimes it loads partway but won't scroll. Let's hope for quick fixes.
It's ridiculous how they thought we'd rather have a song list rather than an album list.![]()
I didn't notice that until you mentioned. You're right. I don't think that works to well given the thousands of tracks I have.
On Trees has a great widget that shows your bank balancesl across as many accounts as you add - when you tap on it, it expands into breakdown including current credit card balances. Might not be for everyone and you may want to omit your savings account as the widget can be seen from the lockscreen
works well except the app doesnt auto update HSBC accounts due to HSBC requiring a keyfob password each time
Also has anyone used the honeywell widget that could do a screenshot, im registered to honeywell US app and wont let me re-register to UK one. If the widget has decent functionality and looks the part then its worth speaking to their customer support to migrate across
Here is another widget which has a keyboard in the notification center this time for the messaging app Threema. It's not created by Threema themselves.
-Keyboard for Threema | 1,99 dollar
