This is bad.. Funny thing is that Cooked forced Forstall to leave Apple because of maps, but THIS is like 1000x bigger issue than maps... Btw, have the issue since yesterday evening, ip 5s 9.2.1...

My iPhone 6 held out until today, whereas my iPad Air2 lost links 2 days ago. Why the delay? I can't figure out the trigger for this.

Did you install or update any apps today? Or perhaps used an app that you didn't use before or perhaps for a while?

My iphone 5 lost safari and mail yesterday evening. My ipad 3 bombed 1 hour later. They both are 9.3. Also my father in law's ipad mini 1 broke down yesterday evening. It is 9.2.1. Javascript off "works" for safari but is unacceptable.

This is not app related! Eg. Me, I did not have issue since yesterdays night and it happened out of the blue, one minute safari was working fibe, another minute it stopped reacting on hyperlink clicks.. Did not install any app for many weeks, did not use any specific app, i was just surfing net in my safari app...

This happened to me too. Tried to open a link in mail and it all went downhill from there.

No - I haven't used the phone since last night when it was working. I've installed nothing, and there were no app updates listed for yesterday. I didn't use any apps either other than Safari and mail

No updates neither. Everything worked fine yesterday, now iPad 3 is affected, iPhone 5s not (both 9.3).

Removed iCloud, no difference. Switching off Javascript helps the Google links.

Ebay shows buying page, but not selling page, so much for the same/new domain idea.

Same problem here.
Links not working in safari and e-mail freezes.
I did not update yet to 9.3 but i have the impression this problem started when i had a pop-up saying i should update my OS. I scheduled the update for later that night but it didnt solve the problem.

Workarounds:
- i use Yahoo app for my mails. So i just forward everything to my Yahoo account
- for Google results: hold down the refresh arrow and switch to desktop version. Links do work then in Safari
- and i also use puffin browser.

As I wrote, I think the problem is in the new iOS 9 function "deep linking": https://developers.helpshift.com/ios/deep-linking/ when a link call for an external app with an url scheme that use a certificate/s or communicates with a ? Apple server/service, make the app freezes (or maybe a certificate who invokes an Apple server to check for security).

Well, I think that because if you use (inside an that allow it, like Reeder, Tweetbot, Copied, etc..) the new "WebView" (I don't remember the correct name) inside the same app, and then click on the safari icon inside the WebView, it opens safari without problem (cause the url is already opened and there aren't options to open it via the contextual "pop up"). But if you select to open the link director in Safari, boom, the freeze!

Anyway, in order to fix it, as I have no problem on my iPhone 6S (but my iPad Mini 4 has the bug since yesterday), I'm using the Google search, mail links, etc...on my iPhone and then "Save to copied" with extension who send (and iCloud sync) the clipboard to other devices. It's only a more friendly workaround until the fix and without use Handoff (lock the screen, unlock, blabla...) or notes or the slow Safari tab sync. The app is called Copied (is free with 2€ IAP), it works also from Mac (but it's a bit more expensive) and then open it in the safari WebView inside the app... I've already bought it some months ago (only for that I'm using it :D )

But please stop write about booking app, other apps, JavaScript etc..make no sense, it's not a bug with a layer which one we can interact, is more deep bug... (Disable JavaScript only disables some url options, but makes the browser not usable, instead try to change the browser to Puffin, iCab etc.. :) )

Since I use iOS 9.3 (I was a public beta tester), in some betas links were not clickable in safari anymore. Beta 4 wasn't working, beta 5 was fine and now since beta 6 the problem got back.

Problem mostly exist when I try to google something from the search bar in safari. When I then try to click on a search result, safari dont respond and start to freeze. Then the app is closing and when I try it again, it freezes again.

I hoped on a solution with the official release of 9.3, however its still present. Its super annoying and I can't find a solution.

I already tried to delete data from safari and also did a hard reset.

Also problem seems to exist in Chrome and whatsapp as well (when someone sends me a link).

Who knows a solution?

i just found this as it was happening to me too and it worked so give it a go
Updated: Safari and Mail links Not working
We have seen reports of users having these annoying issues with Safari as well. People are seeing Safari crash / unresponsive when tapping on the link. We haven’t seen any official updates from Apple yet. There are two tweaks/workarounds that seem to be working for some people for the Safari Problem.

The first is related to adjusting the Javascript settings. Go to Settings > Safari > Scroll down to Advanced > Turn off Javascript.

For some very strange reason, I think since I updated to 9.3 on my iPhone 6 plus, safari isn't working-class and also Mail. It's freezing, bb8 it responding after opening an email.

In fact this is strange, any link I'm clicking from any apps is doing the same...as in not linking as and then freezing the app? What is going on?

For example, I open it, do a Google, comes back with links, but then I click on a link and it won't do anything, the links just wont click, then it sort of freezes and won't let me scroll up/down. It's really frustrating.

I've quit the app, restarted iPhone, cleared all cache, website data etc, but same. Is this to do with iOS 9.3? Just me?

It was working fine before. I have 7Gb free space, can't think of anything else to do.

Turned off, working on some, but loads of did not working because it's off.

Was onto Apple support chat for 2hrs last night. They know, apparently, and are working on a fix. That's all they did... Wait. Said want happy as can't use phone, but tough basically

A few days ago I updated my iPad Air 2 to iOS 9.3. Everything was working fine until today when I got these link problems too. Maybe it is triggered by some specific apps (or a combination of).

So my gf just had the Safari links problem on iOS 9.3 GM. Safari freezes when tapping links, Apple Care are aware of the issue and say an update to 9.3 will be out shortly. Their workaround is to disable JavaScript! I told them most websites won't work but they say that's the only workaround.

Do Apple do any QA at all? What a joke.

Dont disable JavaScript. Half of the sites dont work with javascript disabled.
Just use another browser or use Google desktop version (hold down refresh arrow and switch to desktop version)

Issue is booking.com app. They updated their app-site-association that is part of deep linking. suspect issue is disappearing for many of you automatically. curious if a force-kill of app is needed for phone to pull new site association.

Chatting with Apple Support and they said they are aware of the issue and an update will be out "within a week".

  • Engineering has received reports of this & they are investigating

    Workarounds:
▪Restart the device, this should fix the issue temporarily.
▪For links not working in Safari, try turning off JavaScript on the device.
    ⁃Settings > Safari > Advanced > JavaScript

And your source for this info is?

I don't have booking app and I have the issue.

I've just restored my iPhone to a backup from Friday. Just as a precaution, I deleted the booking.com app while it was still in the process of being downloaded (after a restore no apps are yet downloaded and are grayed out, but they will eventually get downloaded. So I pressed and hold on the greyed out booking.com app and deleted it). For now it seems my iPhone is OK. However I will have to wait and see if the issue will reappear. Please note, I am not saying booking.com is responsible for that, I deleted in as a precaution.
