I would say Macrumors via TechCrunch is not an official channel. Who knows where they get their information? Some Apple support guy like the rest of us? the clue's in the name - rumors
It's an official company response to an official request for comment from an established and known technology news outlet. It's not a press release, no, but things of this nature rarely get something like that, mostly just statements/comments from the company.

Are we really trying to split hairs as to whether or not at this point Apple is aware of the issue and is working on it?

Damn, Apple should have worked on it before make it appears! Or at least it should make an official press release! They do it for every 1% plus of "green power" they're using only to make the AAPL growth. But nothing for this enormous bug, this only because an official admission of the bug (at high level, not a useless and weird communication with a journalist) would make the stock price drops!

Other things are only words!

Only words, indeed.

Instead of press releases and official announcements this is now Apple's style of communication (see image). It's not helpful, and I'm sure people would rather be told that there's a known issue and that a fix is expected within 'x' time. An official general announcement would stop this nonsense - and this thread. Not every user visits the tech sites.

You already saw Apple's official response, which is behind Twitter. Companies usually don't announce a fix is expected at a particular time. The news is well beyond tech sites: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/apple-working-fix-ios-93-issue-affecting-users/story?id=38005112 and http://www.theguardian.com/technolo...e-links-frustrate-thousands-apple-fix-problem

Like I said, seems like hairs are being split just for the purpose of splitting hairs.

Any links to Apple directly addressing the public/impacted customers?

The customers who gave Apple their money need to be addressed in a direct way not in a response to a reporter.

It's pretty standard practice to send out a notification for this level of impact.

A more direct comment that would say the same thing that they are working on it and hope have a fix out soon? What are people trying to get out of this "more official comment"? It's not like it will change what is already known and what they are already doing.

I had a call with an advisor 2 days ago after contacting @AppleSupport. They confirmed that it was a reported issue and were currently working on a fix, which would most likely come in as an update. If that helps!

After a couple of hours I finally got this response from Apple Support on Twitter, having pressed them for an indication of when this will be solved. I have to say it doesn't sound like a company in a hurry to deal with problem, although to be fair it's probably not representative of the official company line.... which is what, exactly?

I am one very disillusioned and frustrated Apple exponent, and there must be a lot of others out there.

Can you tell that person asking a question addressed to me about something I did that I'm working on fixing it even though that person is standing right next to me?

Getting very pissed off with Apple at this stage, what sort of response is this. The **** will hit the fan tomorrow when people get these new devices and get stung.

Hopefully just a poor choice of words on this person's part. Someone else indicated that this is their top priority. Given the tremendous number of people reaching out to them on Twitter and Apple Support forums, not to mention the press coverage the issue has garnered, it would be difficult to imagine that it's "under review" instead of a high priority for them. Especially since there's no workaround that works reliably.

The official company line is what's mentioned at http://techcrunch.com/2016/03/28/it...ng-on-links-in-ios-9-3-can-crash-your-iphone/

I am really sorry C DM and I don't aim to get into an argument with you. We all have the same problem and we want Apple to fix it. But you keep referring to this TechCrunch site like they are some kind of official mouthpiece. This is the company that published this on their site (see image) in 2012. Treat this screendump with the humour that was intended. My point is that Apple's handing of this issue is a PR disaster and has led to unnecessary animosity and frustration.

Apple has done some great things recently - like their stance on privacy, which I fully support (maybe let's not go there) They've got great products that work well (usually) and the Genius bars are... Genius. But they have royally screwed up this situation and it's a pity. They have an announcement on Twitter about the original issue with 9.3 that affected older products. But nothing on this and it's making the Apple community more and more angry. I rely on my Apple products for business and pleasure. Now I find I can't. And it pisses me off that I need to rely on some marginal tech site to tell me what Apple is doing to rectify that.

Since hairs like to be pointlessly split, how about ABC News, or is that somehow not legitimate enough of a news organization to get an official Apple comment on it? http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/apple-working-fix-ios-93-issue-affecting-users/story?id=38005112

Would the same official comment on Twitter somehow make things better or provide more information? The handling of this issue is about the same as handling of many other issues that Apple (and many other companies) have had. Seems like a lot of attention is being paid to words (as in optics) rather than actions (as in what actually matters--in the form of an actual fix).

"We are aware of this issue, and we will release a fix in a software update soon," an Apple representative told ABC News today in an email.

What Apple representative was that? the same one that told me it's currently under review?

I give up. I'll wait for a fix and hold my tongue.

Yes, it did in Mail anyway.

WOW... That is really terrible for those who have to check emails for attached documents on the go.

Hopefully Apple releases fix by tonight

Anyone know if this problem follows a full restore from backup, or (especially) a transfer to a new device? My wife's phone is hosed by this, and workarounds I found online didn't fix it. However, I have a new iPhone SE arriving for her tomorrow and am wondering if (after deleting the bad apps) I can just do a transfer of her iCloud save to the new phone and escape the issue.

Depends if the iCloud backup being used for the restore is pre-corruption or post-corruption.

1) The corruption started for me on 3/25.

2) I first tried restoring from an iCloud backup from 3/28 (post-corruption) and nothing changed. All the same problems with links persisted.

3) Next I tried restoring from an iCloud backup from 3/24 (pre-corruption) while also immediately deleting the booking.com app before it reinstalled, and that fixed everything. No problems at all for the last 2 days.

Not sure why more people aren't doing this if they have the time and resources. Especially considering those pre-corruption iCloud backups will soon be gone once they are replaced with more recent post-corruption backups.
