Depends if the iCloud backup being used for the restore is pre-corruption or post-corruption.

1) The corruption started for me on 3/25.

2) I first tried restoring from an iCloud backup from 3/28 (post-corruption) and nothing changed. All the same problems with links persisted.

3) Next I tried restoring from an iCloud backup from 3/24 (pre-corruption) while also immediately deleting the booking.com app before it reinstalled, and that fixed everything. No problems at all for the last 2 days.

Not sure why more people aren't doing this if they have the time and resources. Especially considering those pre-corruption iCloud backups will soon be gone once they are replaced with more recent post-corruption backups.

Trouble is, when people get their new shiny iDevices they won't know to restore from some previous backup and immediately delete some little app.

Some of us never had the booking.com app on our devices, and there isn't a definitive list of other apps that would cause the issue. I've only heard EAT24 and Wikipedia listed as other potential causes.

Any app that uses Universal Link can be the potential cause (becase the bug is there) but I think the problem is how this service communicate with Apple, and for that the fix takes long time. And still no news...grrr

Completely agree. The brute force/shotgun solution myself and some others have employed is not feasible for most users for many different reasons (e.g. not tech savvy, don't have the time to do a full wipe and restore, don't have full backups readily available, etc.) Apple really needs to provide an actual fix soon.

I am hearing that an update will be available tomorrow (Thursday)

Fair enough. Not knowing the offending app makes avoiding the corruption hard... Question, did you have the Agoda app? A dev on twitter told me booking.com owns Agoda and their app also pulled data from that massive 2.3 MB booking.com association file.

All that said, if you have the time and wherewithal you might want to try restoring from a pre-corruption backup and immediately delete any apps you think might be the offenders before they reinstall...and see what happens. That's your best chance at a working device until Apple releases a fix.

No, I didn't have Agoda. I did have EAT24, but never used it so I just deleted it (not expecting that to fix the issue). My iPad Pro and iPhone 6 Plus are so far unaffected, so I am using those for Safari stuff when I can. I'll just wait for Apple to issue an update (any day now, Apple! It's been almost a week already.) for my affected 6s Plus.

A random reply to a reporter is just as official as a random reply to an individual Twitter account
That's not really how journalism works. A news organization reaching out to the company and getting a company representative to reply is not the same as a random reply to a Twitter account. But even if we wanted to treat it the same, seems like that would only provide that much more responses from the company that all say that they are working on the issue. Or are we still going to beat around the bush and split hairs and pretend that they aren't aware of the issue and aren't working on resolving it?

We are complaining for the lack of a timely update and or a proper ETA for an update.
Things any normal multinational company with 24/7 coverage should be able to do.

right now even clicking a link result from a simple google search from within safari freezes it :)
clicking links in whatsapp, freezes it.
clicking links in messages, freezes it.

Keep pressed on the reload button and "Request desktop website", now you can tap on the Google links. No solutions for the other apps...

But hey, "Apple is working on a solution"...be happy :) #sarcasm

Tried a host of 'solutions' shared all over the web with no effect. What a waste of time. The only thing to be thankful for is that it doesn't affect OSX otherwise work would be severely impacted. Can't take my iPad on meetings any more - have to resort to my Macbook. How does it affect people who rely solely on iPad and iPhone? I hate to use the M word but even Microsoft wouldn't have kept their customers in the dark for this long - there would have been a statement by now.

If I asked one of my employees when he could deliver a piece of work and he asked some random journalist to tell me he was working on it, I would have fired him.

Embarrassing now, SE and new Pro out and in hands. A new user could install certain apps and this happen, without Apple even telling new users, never mind existing ones...

I think the apps companies like booking.com have got their act together now, so it shouldn't happen on new installs. It's the people who installed earlier versions that are stuck, even if they remove them.

The last Apple support Tweet was 7 hours ago - I think Apple has shut it off because of the volume of complaints!

Forbes "magic tip" is only a way to get more click/money on its website. Who has wrote the article has no idea of the bug. Like a looot of sites out there. Looks like a magic potion rather than a serious guide, maybe could work for few people but not because it's the "how to fix" but for others lucky reasons :)

Odd. Links from Google operational again. Some links on this site not working. Links in email not working.

Spoke too soon. that was the strangest thing. All links from Google were working.. and then after I tested links from Mail, they stopped working again
