I am completely mystified by this. Nothing anyone has suggested has helped in my case, not even briefly. I was using my iPhone 6 Plus for a full day after upgrading to 9.3 without a problem when this suddenly manifested itself. iPad Pro is upgraded to 9.3 and no problem there. The only positive thing about it is that it will be truly interesting to learn, eventually, what the problem could possibly be. I can't make sense of it.

Same problem here. :(

I can get google to work if I open it as a desktop site, so something maybe wrong with the mobile version or the way Safari interprets the code?

What I did:
  1. Created a backup of the iPhone 6 using the latest version ofiTunes.
  2. Restored the iPhone using the ipsw for iOS 9.2.1.
  3. Setup the iPhone as a new phone.
  4. Tried to open links and verified that it works.
  5. Upgraded the iPhone from iOS 9.2.1 to iOS 9.3.
  6. After the upgrade, setup the iPhone as a new phone
  7. Tried to open links and verified that it works.
  8. Restored the latest backup, that I created in the first step, using iTunes.
  9. Tried to open links and again the exact same issue as before so this did not work.
I was kind of hoping that it was related to the upgrade to iOS 9.3 that went wrong or something by giving it a new I thought I could resolve it.

So whatever the problem is it seems to be software related because as I mentioned after restoring a backup I had the same problem again.

Me too. Safari freezes up and links from email don't work. I've picked up the MacBook now to surf. I am not a beta tester but I do upgrade from iOS to iOS.
This is really bad form and quite worrying. It is such a glaring fault. I've been thinking of picking up the iPPro 9'7, but lately I've lost that "it just works" feeling I've always had with Apple. Well, at least over the last 15 years, I did own a Newton 130, jebus, that was something else! It was so innovative though, I did cut it a lot of slack as there was nothing quite like it.
I've avoided the "apple is going down the tubes rhetoric", but recently it seems it is indeed going down the tubes. I've Apples products coming out of my ears so trust me, I'm vested in this whole ecosystem working.

i encountered the same thing today! my i5 is able to open it though. may i ask what dfu mean so that i can do it in my i6s+? thanks!
As I understand it DFU is setting the phone back to its original state. By reflashing the ios software.

Search the forum. Lots of how to guides out there. Read up first. Understand what your doing. Easy to mess up your phone

Tried this. Didn't work. The only thing that works for me is to hit the (4 lines button) in the browser bar, click a link, then re-click the button. It changes the viewing mode. I have tried a hard reset, but not restore because i don't want to lose all the info on my phone. Tried enabling and disabling all options for safari and the only fix around it that i found was the one above. Pretty annoying, is there any way someone can reach out to APPLE and let them know of this issue?

Did not work for me sadly.
iPhone 6s - 9.0.2 - jail broken
Disabling JavaScript has only helped most links on safari.
Everything else like mail doesn't work and crashes.

Tried uninstalling booking, telegram, google maps, outlook, etc... But no result.
[doublepost=1459040430][/doublepost]Noticed something. My phone hasn't been backing up to cloud.
I tried to force a backup but it would fail.

Tried deleting backup and then backing up after signing out of iCloud and signing back in.
It did back up. I cloud showed 83gb of space used, but the backup itself was 0 bytes.

It also reset my phone "name" to iPhone.

I'm not sure if related but perhaps some of you can take a look at your iCloud backups and see if it's either at 0 bytes or stopped auto backing up?

Yep. I'm running 9.2.1 on my 6s and the issue started yesterday, so it's not isolated to 9.3. As others have mentioned it does not appear to be an issue related to iOS version.

First tech site to pick up the story. About time.

Latest icloud backup for my iphone was earlier this morning.

I have same issue when updating ios 9.3 yesterday. Not only the web link can't be clicked, but also Yahoo search engine can't work. This is the first time I met this problem, but it seems this isn't first time on ios.

This is probably only the tip of the iceberg. A lot of iPhone and iPads used for work are sitting around collecting dust during this holiday weekend. I have a feeling Monday is going to be ugly for Apple...

If you have a Twitter account you can message Apple directly about this issue.

Seems to be a lot more customers impacted.

Here is a permanent solution: DFU restore to 9.3 followed by icloud backup restore from 9.2.1 version. I can't believe it but it worked. This is only possible if you have older backups and don't mind losing recently installed apps. I have 273 apps so this was more of a benefit than a hinderance.

ok. on phone with apple support now. this happens in both my apple email and safari. iPhone 6s 64gb. we have resolved the safari issue. SETTINGS - SAFARI - OPEN LINKS - (change to) in BACKGROUND (mine was not functioning with IN A NEW TAB). this resolved the hyperlink issue with safari. Apple mail still not functioning.

Been using 9.3 since launch day with no issues and the BAM, this problem appears. From reading Apple's discussion boards it looks like Apple is aware of the issue.

I predict a 9.3.1 in the near future.

Hopefully sooner than later.

I guess some Apple employees are going to get some holiday pay.

FWIW — this did not make any difference with my iPhone 6S's Safari.

This didn't work for my 6S Plus on 9.3.

Why isn't this story on the front page?

I tested a few different scenarios using Safari on my iPhone 6S.
  • Internal links (links to pages on the current page's domain) work without incident.
  • External links (links to pages outside of the current page's domain) do not work, in most cases. Nothing happens as they are tapped. However, I did find some exceptions — all of the external links on cnn.com are working for me.
  • Long tapping any link (internal or external) causes Safari to freeze. Home button still works and force-quitting will unfreeze Safari.
  • Hard pressing any link (internal or external) also causes Safari to freeze. There is no peek/pop action.

I really don't want to do this but I guess it's my only option for now
