I've downloaded GM and understand how to install the IPSW in iTunes but my question is once I select it and choose to restore as new how do I not lose all of my stuff? I assume I can't restore from my the 8.x back up.

Yes, you can restore from an 8.x backup. Newer backups can't be put on older software. Or, you can update instead of restore.

You can update to the GM by holding Option (Mac)/Shift (Windows) while clicking on the restore button in iTunes.

If you're intent on restoring then make an iOS 9 backup first. Should carry over. If not, then updating is your only option.

It really doesn't matter if you update as I've had just as many issues restoring as new as updating.

[Edit] Ninja'd.

So.... when does "Metal" come into play because almost every animation lags now and the first few frames of almost all animations are missing so it looks like the animation starts in the middle.

So, I downloaded the GM version of IOS 9 to my Cellular iPad Air 2 and I go to software update and it says I need to download IOS 9 beta 3? What the heck is going on?

Just restored from beta 5 to the GM on my 6, and to be totally honest, it's running buttery smooth on my end. No bugs or kinks that I've been able to replicate, with the exception of the Settings app opening slightly off center, covering airplane mode almost entirely. This was a known bug in beta 5. Otherwise, response is just as smooth as beta 5 had been for me in the past few weeks...so far so good!

Also, I removed the public beta profile, then went into Usage and removed the auto download of the public beta (seems to want to update as others have noticed) and then did a hard reset. It's now showing up to date, rather than prompting to revert back to beta (for those updating from the public beta, ymmv, but those steps worked for me)

Try removing the beta profile, then going into storage & usage to see if the beta file was auto downloaded (it had been for me by the time my restore completed) then do a hard reset - should tell you you're up to date after those steps.

I am having this same issue. I deleted the profile. Hard reset and it is still saying "update requested."

Wow iOS 9 GM feels pretty smooth on my 6 plus. Will see how it goes after a day of use.

(Yes I'm the guy that has been trashing the 6 plus' performance)

So this seems to be the general consensus from what I've been reading... With the occasional chime in of "oh it's great and plenty smooth and bug free". Is it actually loading apps and behaving as fast or faster than 8.4? I kind of want to take the plunge but I'm on 8.4 and I'd like to keep the jailbreak door open and keep my snappy performance. Plus I'm still a Helvetia neue supporter!

I know some of you are more sensitive to the app loading animations and their smoothness as am I. I usually run with reduce motion set on and 8.4 is really snappy. When I used the last beta of iOS 9 the hesitation when touching an app and then it actually responding drove me nuts and it led me to downgrade back to 8.4. Is the GM still basically the same for performance as beta 5 or the public beta 3? I'm excited to see arstechnicas write up. They usually count the time it takes for things to actually happen. I'm on an iPhone 6.

For those on public beta. Delete the profile before going to check the iOS software update. For some reason it is downloading the third public beta. Then you need to download, delete (profile and update), reboot. The annoying iOS Notification is still there. Guess will have to see until iOS 9.0.1.

Can someone explain the build number to me.. Beta 5 was 13A4325c and the GM is 13A340.. doesn't that mean its an older builder or am I just reading it wrong?
Maybe, that is the reason I don't receive OTA on my iOS 9 beta 5 iPhone 6 Plus.

iOS 9 GM appears to be working well thus far. I installed about an hour ago, and haven't seen any choppiness or stuttering thus far. This is my first look at the new OS and I am liking what I am seeing.

I have a game using metal to write. Performance is not bad.
But I don't know when it would be available to boost animations etc.
