Why? Updates aren't forced. Some people are still on iOS 6 with their iPhone 5.
Smoother than 8.4.1?
If you guys paid more attention to your torrent program, you'd notice that your 6 plus GM torrent is not healthy. There are no 100% seed and if you check your peers you will probably notice none are more than 13.7% complete.
Sounds like you are stating facts here without any knowledge. So please don't lecture me!iOS 9 will have its kinks ironed out much like iOS 8 did.
The only sad thing is that by the time iOS 9 is at its peak in terms of performance, it'll be replaced by iOS X and we'll go round again. For those who want optimal performance, the clear option for now is to stay on iOS 8.4.1.
does it require an new version of iTunes?
Betas have time bombs and you can't apply iOS 9 backups to iOS 8.
So there you go, forward, not backwards.
so why couldn't iOS X be a brand name? an opportunity to bring their brands into line? I'm not saying it's a given, or even likely. but it would be a lot less strange for Apple to call it X than it would be any other company to call their 10th software iteration 'X', cos of Apple's brand history. so not sure why you think it would be 'nonsense'. I think you're overstating the point a bit. cheerioI KNOW! But 'OS X' is a brand name.

I just don't think Apple will call it iOS X. What happens to the release after that? OS X is a brand name, and the version is a name. It would more sense for them to just carry on with iOS 10, 11, 12, etc.so why couldn't iOS X be a brand name? an opportunity to bring their brands into line? I'd be interested to know tooCan someone explain the build number to me.. Beta 5 was 13A4325c and the GM is 13A340.. doesn't that mean its an older builder or am I just reading it wrong?
I hear you, that's another reason I hesitated installing the GM on 8.3 I get excellent battery life on my 6

Any chance that maybe hopefully the lag when touching an app to open is being cause by apps not being updated for iOS 9 yet? If that little half second to second lag persists still after the public release I will remain on 8.4 for the duration of my iPhone 6 ownership! It's maddening!Installing the GM on my Air 2 now, wonder if the app delay "bug" will be on that device as well. My iPhone 6 performs fine other than that.
Is there any apps besides Apple's native video app that support PiP right now?
Don't have grey icons here. They may start grey, but they soon populate with the correct icon.Wow, they still haven't fixed the blank icons on the updates screen... How hard is this to fix!?
