Hmm let's ask e.g this user or this one if he can check if that is possible with Slide over on e.g. iPad Air or iPad mini2.

I would use e.g. WhatsApp/iMessage (30%) next to e.g. browser (70%), e-mail.
I wish the video also kept playing with Slide Over or PIP but according to this post that isn't the case unfortunately :(. But looking at this post the video keeps playing in PIP modus? What is it?

But looking at the Apple iOS9 preview site PIP has the option to continue playing the video and still work in a different app (e.g. E-mail) "While using FaceTime or watching a video, press the Home button and your video screen scales down to a corner of your display. Tap to open a second app, and your video continues to play — even while you use the other app. So keep watching your favorite TV show while you reply to the email that just came in."

It seems 'Slide Over' doesn't have this option.
I'd love to test this thing out, but I don't know what to drag where.

As far as I can tell the temporary split screen is only Apple apps so far, but that could just need updates for existing apps.

True multi tasking for iPad Air 2 doesn't seem to be live yet.

Android split screen also only works with certain stock apps, I'm guessing it'll be the same for Apple.

For Android it's not only stock... Although it was in the beginning, but now plenty of apps support Multi-Window.

I'm sure Apple will allow other developers to create apps for it, but won't be anytime soon.

I wish Apple would at least let the bigger iPhones do slideover and PIP. They don't have enough RAM for much else. At the very least PIP would be useful.

During the WWDC keynote there was mention of developer APIs to allow apps to work in splitView multitasking. Federighi went on to say that any developer who has already implemented the flexible layout code will be able to easily activate SplitView in a matter of seconds of development.

That will probably require a recompile and resubmit.

My apologies. Figured Apple will be strict to not allow 3rd party apps to use the splitView. Since Apple will be allowing 3rd party apps.. I assume there will be a splitView setting to choose which app to be shown.

Why would that be the case?

Because its a feature of the iPhone 6S Plus if anything, doesn't make sense really on iPhone 6 as much as it does on an 6S Plus and it will have the better specs to support it.

I have loaded my iPad mini (1st gen, A5) with iOS 9.

should I be able to do the slideover multitasking?

No. Your iPad is too old, and it only has the A5 chip. Only the Air, Air 2, mini 2, and mini 3 support the slide-in multitasking. True side-by-side only works on the Air 2.

While I agree that most likely if a phone was to support it it would likely be the upcoming s version and perhaps even the plus model only, but if the 6 (plus or otherwise) could support it then they would have mentioned it already.

reload as in lose their last save state.
Well that's a function of memory, as other apps use up memory previous ones have to be unloaded to make up room so they would need to be loaded again if needed later.

I have an iPad Air 2 with iOS 9 Beta 1, how do I enable the Split View 50:50?. I already know how the slide out view is activated but I can't figure out how to even enable the 50:50 Split view.

Thanks

Shawn

It only works for stock apps. Make sure when you use SplitView your using stock apps to slide for 50:50 view. And slide in between the apps to move however see fit.

For example Safari & Notes.

I figured it out finally, thanks!

I have been working all week long so didn't really have time to figure it out myself

Is there an API for the 50% view?

So :apple: are now definitely in the lead in terms of multitasking it seems.

I wouldn't call it just yet.. Samsung has the ability to use more than 2 apps compared to Apple.

Although, iPad apps are well designed compared to Android apps. But I'm very excited with the direction Apple is taking with the iPad.
