I love swiftkey's two language feature as I use spanish and german all the time. Only thing missing is shortcuts and it gets unbeatable

Looks like Swype took our money and ran

hello all,

i downloaded fleksy keyboard and wondered if anyome else noticed the following?

basically a lot if not all email fields caused the text to auto correct leaving no option but to switch to default keyboard.

also why would i allow tge keyboard this access? ridiculous!!

the last two i don't mind but the first I don't like the sound of!

short question, is it not possible to use the same keyboard for different languages via switching? i love swiftkey but it seems to pick the OS language for suggestions but id like to have the same keyboard for when i am writing something in english to get english suggestions

Unfortunately all third party keyboards ask for this kind of access. A bit excessive if you ask me. That's why there are a lot of one star ratings. I'm pretty sure also the built-in Apple keyboard has full access.

i got it, i didnt actually open the app of swiftkey. i assumed thats just a introduction video and the settings are within the general > keyboards settings when they are in fact in the app itself

Fleksy says it uses email access to learn you writing style and improve predictions and correction. How it does that, I do not know.

TouchPal doesn't require full access, it does prompt you but it isn't actu needed.
TouchPal requires full access to read settings (add so all other keyboards). Without it default settings are used.

nearly all need full access, but it looks like only swiftkey is transmitting data if you enable their cloud, if not no transmission.

I am more than frustrated with swype - charged a buck and no support, no update, no nothing - only wierd stuff on their twitter, and all for android. To bad I can't get my money back and warn more people

Yes, all keyboards need full access. And if you don't enable full access, some features do not work.

Yes, it is required to switch themes and languages but otherwise, the app is still fully functional including swiping.

The third party keyboard experience is still messed up in 8.1 in my opinion. Better but still not seamless. Too many crashes and stutters especially in messages.

i think your are right. I am jumping on and off the wagon. I love swiftkey, but it misses shortcuts, touchpal corrections are more often wrong, but I do have shortcuts, I will look at the others again, but so far each one of them offers one special feature, none all of them :)((

When 8.0 came out I installed Swiftkey on my 5s and iPad Air. It was so buggy that after 3 days I deleted it. Today, I saw that Swiftkey had a couple of updates since launch and 8.1 brought optimization for 3rd party keyboards so I installed it again on my iPhone 6 and iPad Air. I must say that now it's ok-ish. Not perfect, but way better.

yep, same here. As I said - swiftkey with shortcust would be a dealbreaker. Swype is talking about an update - after nealry 6 weeks, but so far no info what they will improve, fix or .....

This is my deal breaker with 3rd party keyboards.

I don't like to use autocorrect and when I write a word wrong with the stock keyboard it has a little red line under it, you can then select the word and it gives you suggestions or you can just leave like that, 3rd party keyboards don't have this option of the red line.

Once they have this, I will start using them again.

Let's face it, custom keyboards are a mega failure.

For me , swype does not work on over 70% of the time due to the height big. Apple have so far said nothing. Swype just say "
In some applications text fields are not correctly responding to the height of the keyboard (like the App Store review text field, arg!). This is an iOS 8 platform constraint and we are working with Apple to get it resolved."

This had been going on for a month at least, it's a joke. How did this crap not get picked up in beta? For many language settings swype doesn't even work in messages!

I can confirm the above; TouchPal and Blink keyboards both properly expand iOS keyboard shortcuts on iOS 8.1.

I'm a big shortcut user, both iOS and TextExpander (prior to the TE keyboard, which I haven't tried). I've tried and removed Adaptxt, Fleksy, Minuum, SwiftKey, and Swype as they don't have iOS shortcuts support. TouchPal currently only expands TE shortcuts if the case matches (e.g., "zzsd" expands properly while "Zzsd" doesn't) but I'm led to believe this problem will be addressed in a future release.

Thanks for confirming that Touchpal and Blink keyboard both support keyboard shortcuts. I just updated the TS with it.
Maybe i will also add that the other mentioned keyboards do not support keyboard shortcuts (yet).

hello all,

Is this a screenshot just after you installed the Fleksy app and after you approved the 'Full access rights'?

The first line indeed is bizar. It looks like if Fleksy are allowed to read your e-mails. I would never give such an app full access. Or is Apple also allowed to do this because i use my gmail e-mail account within the Mail app? But i already use Gmail so Google already 'read's' my e-mail for advertisements that could be linked to my recents e-mails when i check gmail.com ;)

This is incorrect. Just take a look at any keyboard that doesn't even have a full access toggle.

Indeed, the TS has quite a lot of apps in it which work fine without full access. But i do agree that a lot of them unfortunately do need it in order to use all features.

8.1 fixed my keyboard glitches. If you've given up and since upgraded, give those trouble makers a second chance.

Main remaining issue, 3rd parties are on their own. Without Siri and even the globe menu for choosing the next keyboard.

Favorite 3rd party only feature is drag to move the cursor. No more dragging across the text with my finger!

8.1 did not fix any of the issues I had with SwiftKey.

When 8.0 came out I installed Swiftkey on my 5s and iPad Air. It was so buggy that after 3 days I deleted it. I'm still having landscape typing issues on SwiftKey. I've reported it on the SwiftKey forums. I seem to be amongst the minority who types in landscape. So far, I'm the only one I have seen anywhere who has reported any landscape issues. I have asked another iPhone user to try landscape orientation in SwiftKey and he has the same issues. He doesn't type in landscape, so it doesn't really bother him.

it was actually when about to enable the cloud sync and choosing gmail as my sync preference,I chose not to in the end!

8.1 update

I'm not having any problems so far after updating. Tried out Adaptxt's shortcut feature, which is pretty cool. Too soon to tell which is my favorite - also looking at Swiftkey.
