It seems we can expect that Nintype Keyboard is soon available in the App Store. According to their website it is already available but i'm not seeing it in the Store when pressing the US App Store link.

I did also check their other Note / Keyboard app 'Hipjot' yesterday and i did see that in the App Store then but no longer now. I'm unsure if Apple removed both keyboards or if the developer removed them.

Although i see a discussion on reddit here. I think we should keep an eye on the Twitter account.

Is nintype really worth $5?

I don't know but check out the review here on MacRumors and the video review here.

I wasn't able to download it in the Dutch App Store untill yesterday. It seems that it's available since today in the App Store and according to a review on MacRumors it does not need full access to work and offers 14 languages and supports QWERTZ and probably also AZERTY and other keyboard layouts. It looks pretty promising with all the features (even includes a calculator) but i don't know if I could get used to such a keyboard layout.

I can't find the other Hipjot note/keyboard in the Australian App Store which link is mentioned on the website of Hipjot.

I wonder if the "full access" dialog prompt you get before using these keyboards isn't as big a deal as it sounds. Do developers really log your keys when using their custom keyboards?

I've tried several including fleksy, swiftkey, and Crimson. I always seem to go back to the stock keyboard. I sure wish Apple would add a dark theme.

I think it just means that the developers can. Whether they actually do is another matter.

I think that moving forward, Apple may need to fine-tune that setting so we can tell precisely what sort of data is being accessed by each keyboard. Else, it simply becomes a case of cry-wolf because everyone will just ignore the warning out of irritation.

Does it have landscape issues on the iPhone 5S? All third party keyboards I have tried had the same landscape issues. The keyboard does not appear in the bottom of the screen when you turn the phone to landscape. It ends up in the centre.

It would be better if we simply could disallow keyboards from having internet access.

I'm not worried though. Most of these guys have privacy policies, and aren't imaginary businesses.

That would mean people with multiple devices would not be able to take advantage of cloud features like those in SwiftKey.

I don't know because i haven't bought this keyboard. I did notice another review of BGR about this keyboard.
Do you have those issues while running iOS8.1.1 and with e.g. Swype or Path Input on your 5S? I can use those two swipe keyboards for example perfectly in landscape mode on my iPad mini retina. The keyboard is showing in the bottom of the screen. I don't have iOS8.1.1 running on my iPhone 4S (i still use 7.1.2) so i can test it on an iPhone myself.

There are however still iOS wide issues caused by the Apple keyboard API which occur with all 3rd party keyboards:

- App Store app (after you typed your password with the Apple keyboard which is mandatory) you still cannot write a review text with a 3rd party keyboard. The keyboard then does not show on bottom of the screen and the letters you typed do not show on screen although when you switch to the Apple keyboard the text/letters show.

That's frustrating: I haven't yet tried to write an app store review using Adaptxt (or any other 3rd party keyboard) so hadn't noticed that bug...

I have the latest iOS version on my iPhone 5S and I just updated to the latest version of both Swype and SwiftKey. Both third party keyboards still exhibit the same landscape bug since iOS 8 was released. Until they resolve this landscape issue, there is really no point in my trying any more third party keyboards.

That's so frustrating. Do you think it's an Apple thing or a third-party thing?

I think it's an Apple thing if all third-party keyboards have this issue. Althought I read it for the first time what Stuntman describes. I can't test it out for myself unfortunately on an iPhone. it works fine on my iPad mini2. It would be good to read if other users have the same issue on their iPhone with the latest iOS version.

Well I hope Apple puts out an update soon if there's nothing the third party keyboard company's can do...

It seems that it is more of an app issue. The landscape keyboard issue I have happens on Google+ and Lync. It doesn't happen on Google Maps or Waze or Mail. The keyboard is not on the bottom of the screen. It is in the middle instead.

When writing reviews in the App Store, there are bad landscape keyboard issues with both the stock keyboard and the third party keyboards. If I use a third party keyboard. I cannot see anything that I typed. If I use the stock keyboard, I cannot see about 20% of the right side of the text box. It registers what I type, but I cannot see it in landscape.

I just downloaded the latest iOS update 8.1.2 today and it does nothing to fix any of these issues. I would have hoped that they fixed the App Store at least, but that was not the case.
