For comparison, on the 12.9 when you open a 3rd app (in addition to the 2 split view apps) they all stay active:

Gotcha. Thanks!

Personally, I actually have split-view disabled on my 9.7 Pro. The small display real estate makes it more an annoyance than a desired feature. My iOS multitasking is basically using two iPads + iPhone (I tend to keep my old devices when I upgrade) plus Continuity. :p

I'm planning on replacing my iPad 4 128GB AT&T with a 12.9 Pro. I reckon the 12.9 Pro is where these new features will truly shine. :)

I am staying with my current 12.9. I bought it for the screen size so the new updates, while nice, are not compelling to me enough to buy a new one - especially since I'll probably see poor resale on my current one considering the discounts Big Box stores ask for it vs. Apple.

Does this mean that the 9.7" won't have the same functionality then? Also, will the new 10.5" be able to do that? Will that have the full functionality?

I would think the 10.5 could do it - would be strange for it to be in sync with the 12.9 on so many features but not be able to do this too.

I hear you. I use split screen quite a bit on my 9.7. But if this is the only example (a 3rd app) I don't think it's a big deal as it does become a bit much for the screen size.

Yes I'm thinking it's good to sell the 9.7" Pros - they seem to be unceremoniously dropped from the lineup - you can't even select them now online. Support for it will be questionable at best.

The annoying part is that the 9.7" Pro Smart keyboard also becomes obsolete along with the 9.7" Pro itself. I guess no one knows how much RAM the 10.5" Pro has?

I think it's a question of perspective. You could also try to sell the keyboard with the iPad and bring the price up a bit.

Many folks I know that have iPads tend to keep them for a couple of years, and the accessories often stay with the device for its lifetime.

It's more a question of resale value to me. Would you buy a 9.7" iPad Pro, if you can't even find the listing for it or its accessories online? Normal buyers might balk at the idea when they can't verify the specs and support for it.

I could upgrade if I wanted to (because i can..lol) but I don't see the point. Need that OLED screen Apple..

I have a 12.9" with 128GB storage and was disappointed when Apple released the 256GB storage option some months later, instead of at launch, so that those of us who purchased at release missed that option. Now I have both 256GB and 512GB options to pick from so I am tempted to upgrade to the new 12.9", mostly for the storage increase, but also the display and camera upgrades.

This is my situation. I'm perfectly happy with my 12.9 aside from the 128GB storage. I was pretty pissed off when they released the 256, because that was what I was most looking forward to. Didn't happen at release, so I figured it'd be a couple years.. ugh.

Today I ordered a 12.9 512GB space gray iPad Pro. I figure that'll show 'em.

I didn't even read about any of the upgrades, nor did I watch the event. I saw the storage capacity on the store and clicked the buy button.

this will be the first time since the first ipad that i dont upgrade

First time I've upgraded back-to-back..

I've got the 128 GB 12.9 IPP (and an iPad Air 2) and I am considering upgrading to the 10.5" model. The 12.9" screen is beautiful, but I think the 10.5" will be much more portable and easier to live with as my one iPad (currently shuffling between my iPad Air 2 and the 12.9" IPP).

If I may ask, what do/need that requires that much storage?

I fancy the new screen of the 10.5", reminds me of the iPad mini. But the camera sticking out is something I really hate on the iPad. I would've truly considered it if the camera was flush (i know, such a stupid detail). But either way, the real big announcement was iOS 11. It doesn't matter which iPad you have as long as it supports all the new features! I haven't been this excited about an iOS update since one of the iOS 4 or 5 updates!

I don’t know at this point. I’m with others that need to see the split screens in action on the 10.5. I have the 12.9 Pro now since 2015 and it’s a beast of a machine, I just think it’s too big for some things, however, I’m not sure the smaller bezels of the 10.5 are enough to overcome the 12.9 screen real-estate. Secondly. Upgrading from the 2015 Pro 12.9 to the new 12.9 doesn’t seem that appealing, true tone ok, camera (I’ll never use), speed? It’s very fast now. BTW iOS 11 is super nice on the iPad Pro, no hiccups yet... kinda feels like a new iPad...

I'm very interested in the new 10.5" iPad Pro but I'll probably stick with my current 12.9" until the 32gb gets truly limiting. I've really enjoyed the larger 12.9" size but I'm no longer using it for textbooks and academic articles so I think the 10.5" size will work better moving forward.

Right now I'm just really happy that I get to test out the new features of iOS 11 without having to buy all new hardware.

i am getting the 10.5 to replace my 12.9 as the size is just too unwieldy on the move. The weight is also a big factor in my decision. Can't wait for 13/6 !

so IPP2 has:
1) better display, brighter (600nits) that is making user experience in reading content very nice thanks to its 120hz
2) better pencil support thanks to the newer display
3) lighter
4) better cameras
5) 30% better cpu and 40% better GPU
6) Apple’s custom-designed antireflective coating
7) iOS11
8) ??

combine all of these with the ios11 features, it will be nice to have a smooth user exp at 120hz while drag and drop, reading etc

I've had my 12.9" pro a little over a year, and I'm thinking I'm not likely to upgrade. If I do, it'll be later in the year, and I'll likely go with another 12.9.

I'd love to wait until they possibly reduced the overall size by reducing/removing the bezels, or maybe at least the weight (I'm pretty sure they didn't on this new one, though I'm not positive). I'm thinking just the new software will make me feel like I have a new pad!

I'd love to go with the 10.5, but I just don't think I could go to a smaller screen after having this one. I am excited to see it in stores and check it out though; I've been known to change my mind on occasion. ;-p

Exactly the same feelings here.
I´m waiting for next upgrade: lighter, less bezels and more screen, 3D Touch and more colors (hopefully back colors matching front bezels).
iOS 11 will make our iPads feel as brand new machines.
Cannot wait to the release!
