iOS 11 feature-wise, does the 1st gen 12.9 have everything the 2nd gen 10.5 and 12.9 do?

I would think so... only difference are the internals. That’s why I’m not in no rush.

The 1st gen 12.9” iPP has 4gigs with all the new multitasking iOS 11 provides, I did the split screen apps and a floating app along with PiP.

I did something i will never do again, last August/September i sold my iPad Pro 12.9 which i loved, to try and get the most value for it, as i planned on purchasing the new Ipad Pro 12.9 in November (me assuming the next model would come out then). Now i have been without my 12.9 IPP and it has been killing me, i don't like the smaller 9.7" screen.

So for me as soon as the store came up i bought the new 12.9". Am excited to see the new screen. I have been using an Air 2 in the meantime, so i can't wait for the new one.

Well they reduced the latency more than half, it should be a proper improvement on an already great product.

Latency is not a concern. It was fine on gen 1. I'm more hoping for improved feel, and pressure curve, and better palm rejection. Looks like those issues were neglected. Not a bad stylus for the price though!

Where in the heck do you get this 4 GB of RAM as being pretty sorry specs for iPad? 4 GB on an Apple iPad 12.9 inch is pretty doggone good and I have never had any problems whatsoever with my 12.9 inch and I daresay many others if not most others have never had problems either. I've never heard one complaint on this board, not one.

Yeah I had a 12.9 for a year and a half. I meant 4 gb is sorry specs for a tablet , not just the iPad. Most windows tablets come with 8 or 16 go ram. My iPad Pro painted well but was limited by the ram. Sad to see such good CPU and Gpu limited by ram. My other tablet has 16 gb ram. I like to paint on large canvas dimensions, so I can print huge. Most people don't print art.

I think I will keep my pro 12.9 for now. Would like more storage, but I'll see how it goes with the update. The 10.5 would be better for travel, but not sure I will get it . I'll wait until I see it in person at Best Buy. Sadly, we don't have an Apple Store here .

Have a 12.9 Pro that I just upgraded to 11. It has virtually replaced my mac (but I consume content and don’t really create it). Beta 11 seems to be working ok. I need to get used to it, but I have to say that my machine seems snappier after the update. Unless something goes totally south with my ipad, I will hold on to it for a while.

If I may ask, what do/need that requires that much storage?

My usage habits always have me deleting stuff to fit more. I'm sure I'd be happy with 256, but since 512 is available and I'm spending so much already, might as well do it right. I just recently deleted all games from my 128GB device so I have 5GB free now.

I mostly have consumption stuff on mine, digital comics, books, movies, tv shows, etc. It's just entertainment for the most part.

Will the 1st gen iPad 12.9" case work with the 2nd gen
Yes it should with the very minor caveat... the new 12.9 iPP has a camera bump so any case that is super-tight around the camera lense may interfere with the camera. I'm sure that it is not going to be an issue but worth mentioning.

Im wondering if the current otterbox defender case will work with the new model. I only use otterbox cases as im paranoid about my devices, and i know they arent always day one with there cases for products, and i want to get the new 12.9 as i currently have the 9.7 BUT its just too cramped to draw on for me

It should fit. But dang, the 12.9 + Otterbox Defender?! That combo will be positively gargantuan!

It depends on how improved the 12.9 display is.

I have both the 9.7 and 12.9 pro and the display on the 9.7 is so vastly better that I don't like using the 12.9 even though I prefer its size for web browsing.

If the new 12.9 has the same color qualities as the 9.7 and the same anti reflective coating then I will probably get it.

After seeing some side by side 10.5 and 9.7 pics I don't feel I would be interested in the 10.5. Not bigger enough.

Are you sure about the camera bump? The 12.9 is a little thicker than the 10.5.....

Or too little sense.

So on topic, i will not upgrade.

After all these new ipad features they showed i think the bigger sized pro makes better use of it.

Oh value what they offered. I got the 12.9" iPad Pro currently. I needed the extra space since I only was able to get 128GB when I got mine. The better display that matched the 9.7 iPad Pro which I was bummed about when they released that one. 120Hz display will be very nice. I immediately ordered the new 12.9" one.

I ordered a 64gb 12.9 last night. Can't justify the larger capacity cost as I really don't need the space with all the cloud storage available. I'd have liked the 256gb though for offline music and nearly went 10.5 256 but decided bigger screen is better. I have a 128gb iPhone for music.

Are you a artist? Just curious. The new 12.9” iPP is nice upgrade compared to the previous version... but I don’t think it’s a “got-to-have-now” type of upgrade, at least for me.

I’ve got iOS 11 on my 12.9” iPP now and when I can get the new one at a discounted price then I’ll jump on board, but my plans is to wait. And I’m just curious as to why the rush on your end?

Can you tell where you saw these side by side pics of the 9.7 and 10.5 iPads?

For me, one of the main draws for upgrading to the new version is the camera. I'm often sitting at home or traveling with an iPad, and I want to capture an image. Often, I don't have my iPhone readily accessible, and I use the 12.9" to snap a photo. The photo quality is pretty good now, but it can always be better.

If this picture is accurate then it's not very interesting at all for me.

Thanks, and I agree. With all the IOS11 improvements they just announced, the more screen real estate the better. I'll keep my current 12.9 and consider the new 12.9 after IOS11 rolls out and the pre-holiday discounts arrive. Updated apps should be ready by then as well. I want the Pro Motion and superior pencil performance. Plus I won't have to get a new Smart Keyboard....

The microphones on the new 12.9 are in different locations, so if you plan to do FaceTime on your iPad without a headset, using an older case will make it hard or impossible for the other person to hear you.
