I think they will add a camera, slightly faster processor, more ram, better resolution screen, more like the retina display on the iPhone 4, definitely more storage space, and maybe a few more things, like a gyroscope and facetime for the iPad.

But what I would really like to see would be an iPad HD of some sort, with a 13-inch screen, 2.0 GHZ A4 processor, 2 GB of ram, HD widescreen, and 128 GB of storage standard. And of course an HD 10 MP camera which shoots 1080p video. I would also like to see iLife on this device. All for a pricetag of $1200 (and this would replace the MBA) :)

It'll be giving the world's biggest camera a run for the title!

It's just strange that the iPad will be waiting until next April/March for a front-facing camera. Their phones have it and in 1 month, the iPods will have one. Like the iPhone, I bet the iPods will have more RAM than the iPad. That's sad. I really didn't take long for the iPad to become obsolete.

I've Owned my iPad since release, April 3. And even if they have an iPad 2 come April 2011, I won't be upgrading. My iPad will be fine for two years. Some things aren't important enough for me to run out and get a new one after a year, like a camera, more space and so on. Now iPad 3, maybe.

:apple:

Now what I would buy is Madden for the iPad. I mean seriously what's the hold up.

:eek:

And no way is an iPad obsolete because a new one comes out. That's just asinine.

I really, really don't think Apple will put a rear camera on the next iPad, I owned an iPad for a couple of months and if Apple put a back camera on it I don't think anybody would use it. The iPad is 1 and a half pounds and is about the size of a magazine, it would be heavy and not very portable to use as a camera. I do think however, they will put a higher res FaceTime cam on the next iPad, possibly at 1.3MP.

How is the iPad already obsolete? Is it no longer a functioning device? Are there hardware limitations as to what the iPad can run?

I just sold my iPad yesterday thinking I didn't really have a need for it. Of course, now that I want to go to my couch i have to undock my MB and find a place to perch it on my lap without burning off my kibbles n bits.

I think I'll just isolate the $600 I got for my iPad and immediately pounce on the iPad 2 pre-sale. To be honest, the slow load times in Safari were a bit obnoxious and I also must admit that the screen, awesome when purchased, looked a little dated after playing with my iP4 since launch.

I fully expect more diverse apps in the next iteration, as well. I have a strong suspicion Apple is going to come up with something unbelievable that no one will predict. Can't wait! :D

iOS 5 better really take advantage of the new hardware come June 2011, too. I don't want to wait until September-October 2011 to stay current with every other iDevice.

Here are my predictions:
Definitely;
Front facing camera for FaceTime
512 ram
Gyroscope
A5 chip
Price points will be the same for model tiers. Current gen 16gb wifi will be reduced to $399 or $299.

Possible;
128 gb storage
Redesign to match iPhone 4 design. Might wait till iPad 3 to change the design though.

Not Gonna Happen;
Higher screen resolution. Apple will hold off on changing screen resolution until they can make a huge jump (like the iPhone). Your not gonna see moderate increases in resolution because this would be a headache for devs. We will maybe see an increase come iPad 3.
USB/mini display/hdmi/sd card connections. And anyone who thinks Apple will put them in doesn't understand Apple at all.

I would love a giant iPhone 4 design for the iPad. Can someone photoshop that really quick?

I really want to get the iPad now but I know that a new one is right around the corner. Here are my predictions of what the iPad 2 is going to be like.

1. Facetime-The new iPad has almost 100% of having a front camera of Facetime

2. 1.5-2.0 GHz A4 or A5 Processor-The 1 GHz has great speed but with iOS 4 and a 2GHz Andriod Phone on the horizon the iPad 2 is going to need a speed boost.

3. 512 MB-1 GB of RAM-With multitasking coming to the iPad this fall and all the new apps to come in the future (including iOS 5) Also the iPhone 4 has 512 MB of ram so it only makes sense to have the iPad following in it's footsteps.

4. Retina Screen-Obviously Apple couldn't put 326ppi into the iPad, I think Apple will go to 1336X1080 for a 1080p resolution.

5. Gyroscope- There is a slot for one on the current iPad it only makes sense for it to be on the iPad 2.

6. Same design but lighter- It iPad design now is good and I like it but I wish it could be lighter.

7. Double the Storage- Apple will drop the 16 GB and introduce a 128GB model.

8. No price drops and a few minor tweaks

What do you think the iPad 2 is going to be like?
Comment Below!

its will have a camera and video camera but i dont know about facetime cuz if u have facetime it means it is a phone so i think it will have a 5 mega pixel camera and 30 frames per second video recording

A giant iP4 design would be really uncomfortable. And more surface area and weight to those hard edges. Plus, there's way too much glass. I think you need to stick with the aluminum backing.

I think it would be more comfortable to hold but unless anyone has a mock-up built to the exact dimensions and weight then we're just offering up competing guesses and hunches here as to what it would feel like.

It's probably true that an entire back made of glass would add a lot of weight but there are other materials they could look at. Carbon fibre would be one, I don't know what it would do for the cost but a decent CF reinforced polymer would be much lighter than aluminium and give the black look to the back similar to the iPhone 4 glass, maybe even nicer looking. Sony used CFRP in their really high end ultra slim laptop about 5 years back (can't remember the model number, it might have had "505" in it somewhare but I'm not sure).

With an iPhone4 like design they could get further weight and space savings by moving the antenna (or antennae for the 3G version) onto the outer band similar to the iPhone 4. I suspect they could avoid the iPhone 4 antenna issue completely because the strip around the edge would be just over 2.5 times the length of the one on the iPhone 4 so they could play various tricks to avoid having "grips of death" on the device (multiple alternate antennae regions and/or inactive buffer zones between the 3G and WiFi antennae).

When I had my first go on iPad in an Apple Store, the first thing I noticed was the low screen resolution, and that was before seeing a Retina display on an iPhone 4. So I hope there will be a higher resolution screen, but doubling it is probably too expensive. I could perhaps see them doing 1.5x. Developers already have 3 iOS resolutions to deal with, so perhaps there will new SDK features to improve resolution independence. A better GPU will also be needed as the fill rate is already a bottleneck in iPad games performance.

I think iPad 2 will be released 1 year on from the first model. It spreads the announcements out, so that one product line doesn't overshadow another. And reinforces that it isn't just a big iPod touch.

Doubling storage might be too expensive at that point, so they may opt to add an SD cards slot like they do on the laptops. That and a USB port would help in making it a more productive machine because it can interact with so many more devices. Apple might chose to make it a standard bearer for a new standard such as Light Peak.

I cannot see it getting a rear facing camera as it is too big to comfortably aim. A Facetime camera may appear, but if Apple were looking to enlarge the user base, they would have enabled the function on iChat equipped Macs.

Edit: Forgot to add, it will probably have the squarer look of the iPhone 4, but without the glass back as it doesn't need the radio transparency to the same levels. I have noticed how my iPhone 4 doesn't rock when using it laid on a flat surface. Whereas my 3G does. This must be an issue with the iPad?

The big story is medical/industrial.

So I doubt it would get any of the enhancements you people are suggesting, except the faster processor. I'd look for a more rugged model, with some form-filling applications (tap and type on image). Possibly wireless charging. Possibly a smartcard reader or other authentication mechanism. Possibly a clip-on keyboard (still uses bluetooth). Definitely wireless printing!

Hopefully it has a built in taser, and a machine gun. Tear gas canisters would also come in handy.:rolleyes:
It should be able to work like the futuristic hovering skateboard that Michael J Fox had in one of the Back to the Future movies. If they add this capability at the same time as making the screen resolution widescreen then that would make it a bit easier to stand on too.

But then people would bitc... I mean complain that the widescreen makes it awkward to hold :eek:

Definitely definitely definitely -not- up for making it widescreen! Have you seen how ridiculous the JooJoo looks before it's even turned on? Widescreen might be great for movies but that's just one facet of this device - for games, browsing, photos and typing, 4:3 is the perfect resolution.
