It's only been on sale for 45 minutes and Apple gave no warning that it would be available today, so most people who don't frequent Apple websites like us probably don't even know. Plus, Apple has had a long time to build up stock. If it ws sold out already that would be ridiculous!
Any chance you could walk into a store and get one release day? Or too far fetched?

I think there's a very good chance. I'm lazy and the local Apple Stores were always so crowded so I generally get mine shipped. However, iPads tend to be easily available in-store during launch. Even the iPhones, stock seems good at out local stores (and I'm in LA so I expect demand is high). Supply is one thing Tim Cook does well.

Going to the store on release day sounds so nightmarish. The public always buys up all the inventory of new products (whether for personal use, resale or just to return at a later point)...I wouldn't do it or count on it. Plus, you may be pushed into getting the only available color or size or with/without cellular, etc.

Any place but here or there....
This 7th Gen iPad is acting up a lot, so I capitulated & ordered a 256gb Rose Gold WiFi Air due next Friday. Have two 2nd Gen pencils, charger, usb-c cable & sleeve here.?

Will wait on the Magic Keyboard, really need a Watch SE.

I’d love to pick up at an Apple Store, but that requires mass transit which I’d rather skip right now.

Well I’d be going to Best Buy. Need the space grey model with 256, if I decide to take my air 3 back. I would think the 256 option would hold out longer but idk

It's hard to say.

Personally, I still avoid non-essential trips out of the house. Covid numbers have started to rise again in my area. So having it delivered was always the only option for me. I have not been inside a mall since March!
I hear ya! That’s definitely a good point. I went out a few weeks ago and the following days I had fever and cough. Tested and no Covid. But I did all the protocols to not get sick. Scary.

It's a crap shoot. I've worked at Best Buy as a department specialist on the floor and as Inventory (warehouse) and as Merch (setting displays, promo control, etc). Each store get an alloted amount (usually a minimum) that they are supposed to have...noone locally know this amount until shipment manifests are printed and store managers can see. Drop shipments that show up UPS and FedEx are unknown and surprises (only regional warehouses and corporate know this). Loss Prevention and a manager catalogs the sensitive inventory as it is unload from each truck and it gets locked in a cage. Depending on the day you get a truck in and how much ends up on your truck varies radically and you may only get 10 of an item or only get in one type of item. Some managers or department sups would set-aside a product if they intend on purchasing it at the ed of the day (they are not supposed to, but it happens all the time) and typically it's first come first serve and if a truck comes in and can be opened up during the day, I've seen department head scour a truck for the expected "3" items out the whole truck. Many direct shipped high value items arrive by UPS or FedEx at the backdoor and get signed for by inventory and LP will stock the cage and let the sales floor know we have more. Everything is a crap shoot. I've seen a ton of product come in time for the release date and I've seen it where only 1 lousy item came in and all the customers are pissed. You (as a customer) are not able to "hold" or preorder an item or Buy Online, Pickup in store of store stock...it's literally sometimes "roam the store all day and ask if they got anymore" at times...employees see it all the time and understand...mostly around holiday season.

So annoyed. I only found out 45 minutes in and even managed to put it into my basket for pick up on the 23rd but by the time I typed in the serial number of my old iPad for trade in, it was gone and the worst part is, I don’t think it was actually sold out, they just didn’t have pick up windows for that day left and then it became unavailable and shipping in November.

Oh well, this gives me 3 weeks to think about if I really need it. Good thing you don’t get charged until it actually ships.

I’ll also check the site again at 7 am on release day to see if it’s suddenly available on launch day. That’s how I got my series 6 watch on launch day instead of 2 weeks later

Thanks to this forum, I just ordered a green 256GB iPad Air with cellular, AppleCare, military discount, and trade-in of old iPad. Not interested in going to nearest Apple store 50 miles away so having new device delivered. Free delivery chosen, dates given of Nov 6-11. Very happy. Took less than 3 minutes to go through the order process including trade-in. Using iMac 18,3 and Opera browser with a VPN routed through BFE. Very responsive order site so good on Apple for that!

Now, about that headphone jack (kidding, I understand courageous).

Very excited!

Im intending to do the exact same as you, but been busy all day so hopefully will get it done tonight (hope they dont sell out!).

I had $45 in Verizon device dollars, so I ordered it through the Verizon app this morning. Blue 256 with cellular. Their date says October 30.

Ugh mine just changed from 3rd to 10th.
With my Apple Watch Series 6 I checked pick up availability at 7 am on launch day and was able to get one for pick up by 9 am on the same day. Maybe the same could work with the iPad. Good thing you don’t get charged til it actually ships

Just ordered my Silver 64gb Air 4 for £430 with a voucher (should arrive on 23rd hopefully). By extension my other half will also get herself my Air 3 so she is also happy!

Mine has, interested to see how long before they send tracking info. Not that delivery date will be any surprise this time!

Lucky! Mine is still in progress, but showing express delivery so have a feeling it’s coming from the US. is yours standard or express?

I actually didn't get an option for anything other than express (free), but I do live in Norway and our alternatives might be different because of that.

My problem is I can't decide which color I want. Space Gray, Sky Blue or Green. Tough decision.
I went with the green. Was thinking blue but if I go for the blue iPhone I don't want to over blue it. I keep iPads on average of five years so I have to make sure I really like the way it looks lol. My first was white with HUGE bezels and it wore on me pretty quick.

I actually really love this new air, especially the sky blue. But everytime I price one out I decide against it because I think its too expensive for what it is. Granted I'm maxing it out, but still 256GB for 879, with no 5G. I know what you guys will say, "Get a pro" And I get it but I guess what I'm saying is, its not a pro, but it a little bit has a pro-ish price? I will probably wait for the next pro. Unfortunately it won't be blue.

I tend to try out various apps for awhile and end up deleting them after awhile because I don’t use them, the 64GB in blue was perfect for me. Add in Apple Care, a case & taxes I was looking at an $800 bill. I am not cheap but mindful. COVID is still here, must conserve family resources ♥️
