So true. I find myself in a tough spot. My Mini 4 is limping along and Apple is only offering $130 for trade. I also want a new iPhone for the 5G. The iPad is the more crucial buy for now as my Xs is still going strong. I'm hoping the 5G will enable me to cancel my home ISP for a $10/month hotspot saving me $50/month. I went with the iPad wi-fi + cellular 64 green, the ship date is Nov 11th so I have plenty of time to think about it. I'm going to Verizon today to see about jumping carriers...

I was wondering since I haven’t seen anyone post about their iPad Air 4’s shipping if anyone that’s bought from Walmart, Target, Adorama, Best Buy, B&H Photo, etc, if your purchase is showing shipped yet?
I ordered my iPad Air on the 15th when Walmart beat everyone to the punch. Space Gray, 64 GB. Still shows “preparing order”.

None out on floors for display until the 23rd. It's a restricted "Do Not Open Until" item, so even employees can't play with them before that date.
Do you think the item will be literally on display that day? That’s the cutoff for my return of the air 3. I’d love to hold air 4 before I take any plunge
Maybe. No one here really knows though since no one here works at the BestBuy that you go to so anyone here would just be guessing. The current iPad pro 11 inch is incredibly similar so why not try and find a hands on model of that.
They will only be displayed the day of release. The store manager and merch manager will typically get they right before the release date and they are restricted from even opening the containers until the close of the day prior to launch or morning of. When I worked Best Buy inventory, we would work trucks sometimes until 2:00 am and that was when the merch teams would start their shift and setup displays and demo models, put away inventory on the floor and other sales prep. There are certain premium brands (Apple being one of them) that strictly control their inventory and product and there are major penalties for violating agreements or displaying something prior to the "open date" so most employees don't even know when they arrive to the store.
I only know that tech reviewers have received a demo last week at preorder launch. The Apple store employees I've talked to haven't received hands on with the Air so far this week. CNBC just did a light review.

Wow, my message has been stuck in "awaiting moderator approval" for a while now. Anyway, the review I read stated:
"And, another thing you miss from the iPad Pro: there are stereo speakers, which are good. But the iPad Pro has four stereo speakers that offer even better sound. Still, the iPad Air beats the sound you get from the entry-level iPad."

The speaker arrangement was a huge selling point for me. In fact, it pushed me over the edge on the Air vs. Pro, saving me $$
Had to look for it, but it does a good comparison. I enjoyed his "which to buy" with the 2018 Pro at the end as well. Speakers on the new Air seem to be a huge improvement over the old iPads, so I'm sure people won't be disappointed either way (funny how they kept the same cutouts as the Pro's four speaker).
Another point that was interesting was about pen latency and Brad Cowboy's review confirmed that there is hardly any difference and he his one of the main tablet artist on youtube. That's only complaint I have with Dave Lee's otherwise great review, he stressed pen latency without even showing it (or even testing it?). Probably based on just the idea that 120hz makes the pencil noticeably faster. Personally, I am no artist but comparing the 10.5 and the mini 5 I can't see any speed difference.
