The base-model MacBook Air has a 128GB SSD... oh wait, that was the MacBook Air from 2010... well I guess we just can't get that level of generosity anymore, can we?

Lots of people thought those models were jokes and money grabs but look how long they have lasted for you. Was it worth it? Time will tell but I’m sure this new Air will be in use for years to come as well.
Yeah, I was looking at the ipsw.me download site and I was shocked that the iPad Air 2 which was released in 2014 is running iPadOS 15. That started out on iOS8.

I have to say I'm a little tired of these posts with people projecting their FOMO on everyone else. If you don't need to buy the iPad Air this year, don't buy it. There are other people who haven't upgraded in years. Those people are going to get a great iPad no matter which one they choose, even if YOU don't feel it's a good upgrade for YOU.

Let go of this notion that the rest of the world cares what you choose to buy and use for your computing needs, or that internet forums are going to be empathetic about your complaints. Nobody cares which generation you have or even what design it is.

iPadOS is not going to turn into macOS. Ever. iPadOS is there to serve the iPad and support all the Mac-like features it's inheriting, such as multitasking, Center Stage, Universal Control, etc. Is there overlap? Absolutely. Do you need the latest greatest model every year to use those features? Nope. They're largely not even doing that on iPhone anymore other than CPU/camera updates and the usual other spec bumps.

Enjoy and use the iPad you have until it doesn't work well for you anymore, and then move on to the next model when you feel you can afford the one you want. It doesn't need to be complicated or dramatic. If you want to use it as a laptop, go ahead. I did it for years very happily. If you want to use it as a fancy movie watcher and e-reader, that's an option too. That's the best thing about the iPad in general.

How big were the OS and the apps?

At least on the Windows side, Vista or 7 used around 20-30GB and a lot of software were multi-GB. iTunes encrypted backups also took up lots of space.

Since you subjected your opinion, why don’t you at least take the time to educate others why you believe that. Just posting that ‘it’s crap’, really is a poor reflection on you and shows that your post really can’t be taken seriously in any fashion.
Ok, you are right. In my honestly (and biased by me) opinion the 4th gen iPad Air that I own is a complete crap comparing it with the 6th gen iPad I owned before, some facts:

- The touchscreen has a very bad response. Sometimes I have to touch more than three times to do a simple action. Most of the times I have problems trying the gesture to show all the apps.

- The Prime video, Netflix and especially HBO (both HBO and now HBO Max) plays with very poor quality and continuously stop playing. It works as if it is connected to a poor bandwith network.

- The experience between the Apple pencil 2 with that screen is the same as the Apple pencil 1 with the iPad 6th gen.

All that issues do not was happening with my old (and cheaper) iPad and because that I hate (a little) my expensive (under my point of view) iPad Air.

Legit gripes and it sounds like there may be problems with your particular device.

Prime video app - skip using it and stream via Safari. The app is limited by Amazon to 720p quality while you can get 1080p through Safari.

Same thoughts here, this initially sounds like a device issue for sure. I’d reset and start fresh and see if issues persist.

So if you want a faster air with the same processor as the iPad Pro, faster transfer speeds than the older model, center stage, and on and on for a lot less money than an iPad Pro, you are getting screwed? Seriously, that sounds like a joke. The only salient point is that if you already have an air that works fine for you, then you literally have no reason to upgrade. On the other hand if you want an iPad Air, why wouldn't you want all the new features for essentially the same price as the old model?

Exactly. It’s not suppose to be something that folks with a previous gen iPad Air purchase anyways

I have an Air 4 and buying this Air 5 for one reason. My wife's Air 1 doesn't allow her to install hardly any app now. Says she needs a newer iOS version. She's resorted to watching shows and stuff on her 13 Pro Max because the iPad is basically useless. Will be giving her my Air 4 and I use the 5.

Ended up getting a refurbished 11” Pro 2nd gen (2020) 128GB from Apple for $609 before tax.

Me happy. Sorry I pissed off so many people. Enjoy your devices, whatever they are.

Yeah, getting a refurbished or preowned items should always be on the table. This way you can maximize what you can get with the budget that you have and always try to leave yourself some flexibility. I spend a couple of weeks causally looking around and doing my research along with adding what might possibly be the AIR 5 before the official announcement and of course checking what certain items are going for in the preowned market. I ended up getting a preowned iPad pro 3rd gen (M1) 256gb wifi for close to $650. . Its a very nice upgrade from my iPad Air 1 ;)
