It's ironic that if you actually wanted to watch the Oscars on the iPad, you couldn't. You'd just get a blue lego block.

i believe apple is "saving" some big news come april 3.. i believe the front facing camera that many consumers are upset that is not included on the ipad will actually sit behind the LED screen as discovered by apple's recent patent approval last year. since the OS is said to contain "video" and "picture" taking button graphics in the dev kits of the ipad shown in the screens below, it just seems unlikely that it won't have a camera, because of all the evidence! you know?

You are setting your self up for disappointment ... there will not be a forward facing camera in this version.

It's not supposed to take the place of a computer.

It really will have to take the place of a computer because other tablets will. I cannot see many people wanting an iPhone + iPad + MacBook + iMac. I can see "light" MacBook use taken over by an iPad so that you have a three device spectrum: Phone; Portable computer; Home Computer. Place you bets... ;-)

my parents just called to ask me about it. They are not tech savvy, but now they want one. They thought it looked amazing.

+1 for ad doing it's job.

Yeah, and it's not very Apple-like to announce something, and on the day of release say "Oh, we forgot to mention it has ______ feature. Enjoy!"

I understand the point you're trying to make, but I don't see how it's ironic.

It would be ironic if it were impossible to view the iPad commercial on the iPad. Not being able to watch a television show in which the commercial was placed is not ironic.

I suppose we could drag up that whole Alannis Morrisette thing again, but I'll refrain. :D

Sorry but no.

If it had a camera, developers would definitely be informed and it would be out in public even if it was supposed to be secret.

ABC's been on the air for the past hour. Not to make this thread about this issue, and I hate Cablevision, but ABC is more to blame. They were willing to take it off the air and wanted fees for something that is already free OTA. They wanted more money than the rest of the other networks.

If anyone wants to watch the Oscar stream:

Yea, I know its ABCs fault but I still hate them for capping my bandwidth and various other things.

Worst song ever.

They could have SLOWED the ad down a bit, too. Steve looks pretty good.

Still bored. Any updates on the MBP?

That's what other tablets have tried doing for the past 10 years and look where they have gone. Oh, unlike most people on this site, a majority of the population that is going to get an iPad does not have an iPhone.

Hrm, I'm not sure I'm seeing the irony, considering that the Oscars are not (legally) being streamed anywhere.

If they were, you can bet they would setup an App, or provide a non flash stream of the video.

Your dilemma is answered in the first part of your second sentence:

I cannot see....

Well, other tablets suck/ed. But what you are proposing is that the iPad succeed and yet suck too, thereby allowing all four niches to exist (with the notebook niche remaining unaltered).

No, ultimately, the iPad will canibailize Macbooks a bit, but still be useful for more serious computing.

Steve Jobs in a suit. An unusual sight indeed. I kinda dig the bold, round glasses.
