No, in a few countries it's being released a month later. In others, like Portugal, we don't even have a date for the launch. :(

Exactly. Were left with big ? Over the availability. But if the ipad is as big a success in the next 6 hit list, and if production has not ramped up to meet the demand still, god only knows when some of us will see it officially.

So, anyone taking a swing at a release date?

Seeing as it took 22 days from American pre-order date to release, I'm thinking 29 May, seeing as this is also a saturday and one of the last possible dates of 'late May'.

That or Steve decides to slap us in our face a third time by releasing it on the very last day: 31 May (monday).

Hang on, are you telling that there is sufficient stock in the US. Would you say demand has been fulfilled?

3-th or 31st I reckon.

Yep! .. i'm also in Portugal and i'm almost decided on the ebay / some importer option. I just want the Wi-Fi version, so no problems with 3G operator nonsense ...

What i find very annoying is not even knowing the expected prices ...

My bet for Portugal is:

(iPad 64Gb) 699$ = 517€ + 20% tax (IVA) + 20€ Apple Bonus = 640 or 639€

Release date? Who knows ... July? (typical in Portugal ... remember the iPhone 3G?)

I'm getting one this month ... ebay/importer/friend from the US .. i don't care ... i'm not waiting 2 months ... that's for sure!

When the delay announcement came yesterday I got straight on the phone to my friend in Chicago to ask him to pick me one up, after I checked stock at his local Best Buy. They had said they had two 64GBs in stock.

When he got there they told him they didn't have any. Noooo!

I called his nearest Apple store and they said they had some 64GBs in stock so he went there and nabbed me one. Woohoo!

He's meant to be flying here tomorrow evening. I woke up this morning to find that British airspace is closed.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo!

That Swiss guy was very accurately voicing the views of this thread, essentially he just called us all "nuts"

Yeah exactly.

And if I did not want the product so badly I would so boycot his products ..

Fact is he knows he can get away with it as he knows people will still buy it no matter what he says.

yep 4 days ans counting

listen HMRC, I WANT MY IPAD DAMN YOU, RELEASE IT NOW

Have any of you guys who'se ipads are stuck in customs tried ringing the delivery company? Sometimes they just hold it forever waiting for payment of VAT or some such and do not even bother telling you, I know 2 out of 3 times I orderd something from America they held it without telling me they needed the VAT payment.

Also sometimes a call gives them a good kick up the backside to get it through faster.

I feel real sorry for all those people literally stranded for what said on the news could be weeks. Hope you get your iPad eventually.

Mine was there for 7 days, apparently they don't work weekends:eek:

Cool! :-(

Mine's on it's way to me today with a 3 to 5 day shipping time. Hoping the transit part of it will be done over the weekend and hopefully have time to get through customs and be with me by next weekend. Fingers crossed.

May I ask those of you who have had their shipment delayed by U.K. Customs to indicate the shipping company used?

This information could be quite handy.

My 64GB should be leaving New York tonight via USPS Priority Mail, assuming that it can navigate around the volcanic dust cloud!

In followup to this question, has anyone who has used a company such as bundlebox and paid VAT upfront had any delays at customs?

Why? All shipments get held up by Customs, as they check each and every thing. It's only luck if you don't get held up for long or charged. Sometimes I wonder if they have severe staff shortages sometimes, as stuff can sit there for days.

Problem you've got is that with the flight problems etc I doubt yours will enter England till next Thursday or Friday, then stuck in customs over the weekend cause no ones working, then it ll take 3-4 at least in customs as the international hub has backlog.

My advice, as soon as it says it's going to your local depot, ring up and pay the charges, also if you live near it, go and collect it yourself, you can't rely on them to get to u quicker

June  the problem is a lot of Americans are buying them to sell on. this is just going to push up the demand.

Ebay

I think apple have dropped the ball with this. I would buy one now, at the end of May / start of June the new iphone will be round the corner with a front facing camera and a much better rear camera. I openly admit I am an apple fan boy, i just might give this revision a miss now.

iv been calling them daily, basically it can take an unlimited time for customs to clear the parcel, once cleared they pass it back and then Parcel force pay the charge, its then held ay my local depo until i pay,

mine was sent with USPS witch is handled by Parcel force in the UK, unfortunately they do not clear there own parcels they pass them onto HMRC then wait for them, i know UPS has there own clearing system that is done very fast

Not sure about that.

My experience with several importations of various goods using various shippers has varied between there being no delay at all to just a short delay pending payment of VAT and a handling charge.

I have never had the experience of goods being held up indefinitely.

I'm going to assume those were within the EU-zone though? Every single time I import stuff from outside the EU the delay varies between 1-4 days (and in my worst case 2 weeks). :(

Curious as to how it works as I've had some items that have declared a high value on the customs label, fly through customs and I've not been charged.

Do they just miss stuff occasionally?

Problem is most of the sellers on ebay are declaring the full cash amount of the parcel for insurance purposes, this is why customs are taking them because your only allowed a certain tax free amount on importations. As stated parcel force don't have any control over how long they keep your parcel, however if they keep your parcel more than 28 days they have to explain why.
