I'm going to assume those were within the EU-zone though? Every single time I import stuff from outside the EU the delay varies between 1-4 days (and in my worst case 2 weeks). :(

I have imported quite a lot of stuff from America and other places and quite a few I got in a matter of days total delivery time, Especially stuff from China that gets here quicker then some mail from UK>UK. However alot of it was low price stuff ranging from £10-£40

I never really risk high prices goods since with VAT and the current conversion rates it ends up much cheaper not to alot of the time now.

Why? All shipments get held up by Customs, as they check each and every thing. It's only luck if you don't get held up for long or charged. Sometimes I wonder if they have severe staff shortages sometimes, as stuff can sit there for days.

Mine's been sent as a gift with a value of £100 on the label apparently to save some money on the VAT bill.

If it's the same size and weight as all the other hundreds of iPads flooding through customs I'm sure it'll be picked up anyway though. Don't really care now. Just wanna get it!

I'd be very careful doing that. There are people who work for fraud prevention at Customs that might confiscate your goods entirely if it's discovered to be falsely labelled. You can get into more trouble if it's labelled as something entirely different than what it is (for example, if you labelled it as sports equipment when it really is electronic). Same thing with labelling something as a gift when it isn't.

It also gets noted on UK recipient's file and the authorities are notified in the sender's locale. The amount of stuff we confiscate weekly easily amounts to over £10,000 sometimes.

Don't worry it's the sellers responsibility to label it correctly on the customs declaration, and if you paid by pay pal as I know you will of, your covered.:D

Problem you've got is that with the flight problems etc I doubt yours will enter England till next Thursday or Friday,

Well apparently they're saying around half of the US to Europe flights are affected tomorrow so lets hope our iPads are on one of the flights that does make it out!

I've now got a sleeve for my future iPad, but still committed to waiting for the official UK release. That empty sleeve is going to give me nightmares...

I really hope so mate, it killed me waiting for mine:(

But now I'm posting this on it and it was worth the wait:D

No I appreciate that. I've not requested this though. I'd have paid VAT up front if it was an option.

Like I said, mine's going to appear in the same size/weight box as hundreds of other iPads currently passing through so I'm sure it'll be obvious to them. Sigh.

Yeah but how could they possibly know it's not a gift? Sports equip./electronics sure.

Thanks For all the Help-One More Question

Everyone on here is very kind. I just have one more questiion.

as advised I will now registerer My Ipad in the UK And set up a Uk IStore Account. But how do I then set up a us Istore account. And when I press the app store icon on my Ipad it says the app store is not supported in this country, what does this mean. Will i be able to purchase apps from the uk istore for my ipad when they are launched here.

I know its more than one question but i'm a little slow when it comes to this stuff. I really appreciate all the help.

Change your store location via the little flag at the bottom of iTunes, to the USA store, now try to download a free app like iBooks, it will ask you to sign in or reg a new account, reg a new account with an email that is different to the one you have with your uk account, as for your USA address just use apple store 5th ave new York, click your preferred payment method as none, and it should register, now sign in on store on your iPad in settings with your new USA email and your app store will work, use a website to purchase USA iTunes vouchers to buy from the USA store.

P.s also make sure your signed out of the uk store before you try to create an account on the USA store

Would it not be best to use an address in a place without tax? hence cheaper downloads.

To be honest I don't know, I just followed a guide I found and they used apple store new York so I did;)

Don't plan on buying much from USA store anyway but I'm still getting my freebies:D

If I remember correctly, California does not charge tax on internet transactions, so you could try there. Some states do, some states don't.
