WIFI

16gb- £380-400

32gb- £470-490

64gb- £560-580

3G/WIFI

16gb- £450-470

32gb- £540-560

64gb- £630-650

So an extra £70 for 3G

and about £90 between the models, maybe more, maybe less...

I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense. You're suggesting that $100 is £90. Yet your prices in £ represent nowhere near their $ equivalent based on that increment.

There is no way we will get an unbelievable deal. If history has proven one thing with regards to Apple/UK pricing we have always paid a slight premium due to the cost of doing business in this country.

And worse still, the British public will still pay for this thing and Apple know that. You will not see the base model below £400.

Well, the website still claims

That had better not be false advertising

But that's a matter of opinion. There's no default "unbelievable price". And Apple hit that in $ anyway. Their home market, where they've extended exclusive sales for another month.

Everyone else just gets dealt a value based on the current exchange rate.

My Ipad arrived today! May have paid a little over the odds...at £560 for the 16GB one...but (i no longer care and it's partly my birthday money saved from January!) it came from a UK seller and he even sent me a copy of the reciept! To have this thing literally 6 weeks in advance warrents the price...it's INCREDIBLE.

Seriously, i was expecting it to be great..but the Ipad shines when playing games and surfing the net..it's well worth the wait guys!

The screen is just superb! Funnily enough the drawing application i've got called 'Sketchbook Pro' is better then using real paints, pencils and paper! haha! NOVA is excellent, Plants VS Zombies has surprised the hell out of me, expecting it to be boring but it's extremely addicitve! Loving the gaming aspect of it!

I sincerely prey the launch date comes quickly for my European friends who are left unfairly waiting because i personally believe this is the best thing Apple has come out with...all the moaning and whining about the delay WAS for a reason then! ;)

1. Can you use the iPad with different telecom providers?
I didn't read it all as it seemed to be iPhone related but yes you can :)

2. Will you be able to use a micro sim from a different country than you purchased the iPad in?
He is BSing, the iPad will be unlocked from the get go, go see the announcement if you don't believe me :)

Bugger. Order cancelled - with the following email:

Thank you for your recent Apple order.

To ensure that all customers are given equal opportunity to acquire this
product*we have limited the amount*available per customer.*Therefore,
this order has been cancelled.

Strange, as I only ordered one! Seems a little unfair but there we go.

On to plan B - have asked my friend to bring one over when she visits on the 27th.

They could say that

"The best device you've ever had! It's better than sex, it's better than having sex with all the men and women you ever wanted AND sipping champagne in the same time"

- and still get away with it. It's not like saying that "under ANY circumstances, we guarantee 10 hours of battery life during the whole one year statutory warranty period". The latter statement actually says something. The "Magical and revolutionary" doesn't and it's just a gimmick. It means nothing in the eyes of law either. The same applies to the "unbelievable price"

But it's Apple, what did you expect. Do you want to get all their gimmicky claims fulfilled?

Everyone seems to be assuming it means "unbelievably low" when it could well mean "unbelievably high"

Comparing the prices of Macbook in US and UK, you'd get the cost of iPads:

16GB - £387
32GB - £465
64GB - £542

+ or - £10 or so as Apple varies between the prices?

Sounds about right to me.

I think you should have read what he said rather than pretend to know everything just because Steve Jobs makes an ambiguous statement telling you it is the case. Remember, he told you that the Ipad would be sold at the end of March!!!! I

An Ipad maybe sim-free/unlocked whatever, but the Telecoms can make it difficult for you to change provider. They can restrict access to micro-sims, they can force you into long term contracts even with pay-as -you go) etc. Do you think that because this an Apple product they are just going to roll over and take it up the a***? He does not believe an AT&T style contract will be offered in Europe where you could so easily change providers and just let extremely heavy users change provider whenever they please? Where is the incentive for them to develop their netwrok, when they do not know what monies will come in?

Look It is easy to provide a carrier-free Ipad in the sTates when nobody else can use use the iPad bar AT&T due to hard ware restrictions. It is effectively locked. AT&T only need to provide their system for using it, no marketing is needed.... nothing. The Europe Telecoms have to fight to get your business so do you think they will let you go easily?

My £500 was also automatically declined.

£500?! That's unbelievably high! :)

How many iPod Touch can you buy from £3500? Or 17"MacBook Pro with anti-glare screen?

Personally, if I had three and a half grand to spend on the iPad, I would probably send my butler to NYC on First Class, have him spend the night in a luxury hotel there and come back with an iPad, pay the duty and a private chauffeur from the airport.

THEN I would kick through the glass and post it on YouTube. Seeing the mad responses: Priceless!

It's already been done to death in this thread.

The MacBook price was set last year when the exchange rate was a lot better. Compare it with this week's new MacBook Pro prices and you get closer to £416 / £499 / £583.

Think about it logically,

The straight exchange rate of $499 is £323, the you have to add the 17.5% tax

so thats adding about £54

so thats £379

then you need to add apple tax

Usually comesout to be 8% so add on about £35

you get £414 or there abouts.

So after apple add shipping and all sorts on that, we see about £449 as the price :(

logical unfortunately

The bottom mac mini is $599 but its £510 here

never comes out nice and easy for us :(

I dont expect the shipping affects anything, they'll come direct from China where they're made, not via the US.

Aah fair enough, its still a lot of money for a toy mind, £400 to about £700 for the top end models,

Im sure itll still sell though :) making apple a tidy profit.

What to do???

Guys,
I have a mini dilemma.
I want to use my iphone 3gs as a MyWi (really dont want to pay for another 3g device when i have one in my pocket), clearly this isnt possible yet, but should be soon. But I do also like the idea of it having GPS. Kinda leaning to a 3G model as it can then handle any situation.

I have the option of a friend who is going to the states shortly picking me up a 64gb Wifi for probabaly around £500. Ruling out GPS.

I have the option of waiting for UK 64gb 3g, but i am guessing that is gonna be around £700. Obviously the most expensive way to go.

or

I have the option of possibly getting my friend to pickup a US 64gb 3G at around what £580?? Unsure if he will be able to get one as they will only just be coming out and will be in demand and also not sure if the 3G will work the same or be locked or anything..

Thoughts??
I am sure it is just a decision i need to make, but if anyone has any views i would be interested.

Cheers

Get your friend to pick one up, if it is less expensive.

I know there has been a lot of 'will US 3G work in Europe' posts here, but I wouldn't worry about that. As far as I am concerned, all models of the 3G will cover a wide choice of carrier bands to suit all nations.

MyWi is already available but you need to jailbreak your 3GS and use Cydia. Doubt it will ever become an official app.

If you are going to do that then you have to think if you ever will be out and about with your iPad but not your iPhone. If not then get the wifi and use the GPs on it.

If you are not going to jailbreak and install mywi, then if you really want to be connected with your iPad buy a 3G one.

Price difference to the states seems good, but you might be better to wait and see what the telcos are going to offer as packages over in the UK. I am still not sure how it will all work with regard to pricing, contracts etc. the only thing that has been said is that ipad's will be unlocked but that does not mean the Telco's cannot screw you if you have not bought one of their packages and have imported instead from the states.
