I just saw his tracking data - eeeek. That delay is the stuff nightmares are made of! LOL

Yeah that really scares me.

If that happened to me I would be ringing up and complaining everyday till they made sure it was released.

Complaining gets you everywhere in this world, may be harsh but you get no where if you do not complain. I have had delivery companys go out of their way to process my parcel and get it out to me asap by ringing up and complaining before.

Just been complaining to paypal and they just sent me the £10 I asked for.

Congratulations on the PayPal credit. Getting anything from PayPal customer service deserves a medal!

So how do we speed up Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs? How does one (shipping via USPS) know which airport (if it's an airport) the consignment is in? Who do you speak to?

That's what's so frustrating about the process. Not knowing and being kept in the dark by our own country's revenue police :(

edit: I called USPS who said that they "don't know" where the package is but they need to wait a reasonable length of time before opening an investigation (this was after only two days - so fair enough). Parcelforce don't even recognise the tracking number. This is despite the tracking number working perfectly on their website! All Parcelforce can tell me is that the package isn't in the country (UK) yet. Technically that's probably true, I expect it's in a big queue at Customs.

You don't need to unbox your ipads!

US customs will xray you but they don't care if you take them out the country as you paid their taxes when you purchased them!

UK customs won't check your bag unless you tell them you have some ipads your sneaking in lol all you have to do is walk straight out when you collect your bags!

And either way if you have 3 ipads in your bag plus a 4th on you then it won't matter if they are in the box or not as no customs officer is going to be that stupid to assume they are all for you! Just leave them in the boxes and don't declare them and you will be fine!

Yeah, To be honest it's just bulk. I can fit 4/5 ipads in one box if I remove the excessive plastic packaging. Also I know the box is nice but I'm thinking my nephew is not likely to care that he's not got the cardboard.

If it is in Customs is it not in the UK they do that in? Outgoing packages do not really get checked from what I hear, it is when they are incoming that it gets held at customs so surely if customs have it then it has to be in the country?

Do you not need the box if you have to return it? Some companys require it. Although that is usually for 1-1 replacement rather then warrenty repairs. However not sure with Apple.

Also if you ever want to sell it, not having the box devalues it massivley sometimes. Which is a big reason to keep it as Apple stuff keeps its value quite well so you can get the next version really cheap by selling it.

I sold my Ipod touch 1st gen to CEX for £100 when the new 3rd gen Ipod touches where around £140. Cashed in there. Used the money towards my Iphone 3GS.

Customs occupies an area that is in a bubble, technically outside the country. Once past customs you are technically inside the country.

This allows goods to move from country to country without having to clear the customs process in each country.

What annoys me is why shipping carriers don't connect their services to the airlines in order to provide a bit more info, such as the flight number that the package is on - or some sort of indication about how long the customs queue is going to be.

mine was a nightmare TBH , the biggest problem is that once the parcel is with customs there is no more you can do until they either release it or send you a C160 letter requesting proof on the purchase amount, i spoke with Parcel force every day and they had no information, all they would say is you have to wait for customs to contact you, in the end i went through to the directors office at PF and they agreed to look into it, they then got me a number of a supervisor at UPS who deal with the customs charges.

the scary thing is it went into customs on the 11th and only today i got the C160 letter, customs do not work fast:eek:, i was lucks they fast tracked the release with out the letter as i am VAT registered.

all i can say is hope yours slip through and don't get caught up like mine.

mine now has
22-04-2010 19:37 National Hub Sorted in hub

so im hoping it will be down at my depo tomorrow as its on a 24hours shipment

Wow.

I hope ours do slip through or failing that, Customs get a fire up their bottoms to get a move on. It's crazy how long you've been kept waiting.

I was hoping to get mine before 7th may, only ordered last night, I have a feeling I'm going to have a long wait... we want ipads already!!!!!!!

Hi guys,

been following the thread for a while now and was patiently waiting for uk release but got a guy who sits next to me in work who has some friends that are stuck in new york at the moment due to the flight chaos and they have offered to pick me up an iPad whilst they're there! they are now due to fly back on the 28th!

Was just wondering with regards to the power supply as it will obviously be US version, can this be replaced with the uk ipad power supply when they launch over here? presume you'll be able to purchase this seperately after launch?

It has a changeable adaptor like most of the apple range so just pull off the us plug and put a uk one it from another apple product

At this rate some of us who imported will probably be the ones who have to wait past the UK launch ;)

Don't go there mate. I'm starting to get to the point where I wish I hadn't hit the 'buy it now' button on ebay.
If it's not here by the end of next week I'm going to start looking at my options to cancel. If that would be at all possible. Waiting 2 weeks for your goods is just too long.

great, thanks!

they plan to put it in there luggage case when they fly back, hoping there won't be any issues with that? dont want to pay any additional charges...

I would think that is more 'choosing' to wait. It is out end of May you do not 'have' to wait.

Why do you have to wait? Are you getting this as a Birthday present 4 months from now or that's how long it will take you to save up for it?

Well yes, I have to wait because of financial problems. I recently renovated a part of my house, so money's a bit tight at the moment. Obviously it's not my primary concern to buy one but it's still killing me inside seeing people getting their iPads in and enjoying themselves.

The reason I'm waiting four months is because I have to go on a business trip to America at that time, so I've decided to wait til' then so I can take advantage of the cheaper prices over there.

All of these horror stories. I am now starting to think I have done the right thing waiting.

Not really. The delays fromthe lads with USPS is natural, albeit annoying. Remember we have had absolute travel chaos during their time in transit. I would not be surprised if they were all collected and then shipped over via boat rather than flown. USPS tracking is never very useful. Those guys will see their ipads.

The only 'horror' story I see here is Resner - who seems to have been caught by dodgy eBay seller. He may have no intention in sending the ipad or he may have taken the money & then ordered the ipad after from Apple and has therefore not sent it (that's the optomistic hope) but either way I would get onto paypal.

So one genuine horror, and a few really annoying inconveniences due to a volcano no one can pronounce is really the true picture here.

I like many on here am delighted I have my ipad NOW rather than later :) though I was lucky mine landed in Ireland the day the volcano went ape **** so I just missed the trouble.

Wasn't that me with the horror story? Anyway, contacted USPS last night, they won't look into anything until ten days are up, so I'll be calling them again on Saturday...

The seller assures me that the iPad has been handed over. Apparently USPS' tracking system sometimes only updates when an item is delivered - this is using Priority Mail International. I'd hate to be fed a line here, but a quick Google shows this to be a common issue...

Is it just me or is it a bit crap to call this a "tracking system" if the information only updates when the item is actually delivered?

It hurts me to think of my little iPad (possibly) out there alone and untracked...
