Mine's heeeeeere! :D

OK, so, hopefully mine is now less than 2 weeks away.
Can someone who already has theirs in the UK answer a few brief questions?

1 - Did it have a decent charge when taken out of the box?
2 - Do you have to connect to Itunes before use (like to activate it?)?
3 - Do you need to register it (if so, can you do it with a UK account or did you register with a US account)?
4 - How did you charge it? Did you use the cable that came with and plug into an adapter, or use an iphone charger, or something else?
5 - How loud is it? Compared to an iphone, if you crank the volume to full on a movie what is it like? Say an iphone on full volume is a 10, does the iPad go louder say 15, or is it simular?

Thanks for reading! Getting excited and want to be prepared.

1. about 80% charge
2. Yes
3. U need an US itunes account to download apps, that is, until the iPad is released in the UK
4. Charges from my 2008 iMac or from the supplied charger
5. I would say the iPad is more than twice as loud with more base

I see those have been answered already. Mine had been used for a week so my battery was at 35%. The guy sent it with an iPhone charger so I'm using that until the right one arrives.

Me to.....but am staying strong! bring on the end of may!

We Shall Not Be Moved ! :)

Despair not, ye faithful, for soon your dreams will be realised !

etc etc.

I'd be happy just to be able to pre order. Roll on the 10th of May. I watched the Gadget Show on Demand Five last night, and was strangely comforted to see the iPad in the hands of someone I was familiar with (Jon Bentley). I haven't seen one in the flesh, so although I know the dimensions off by heart, it's still hard to get an idea of how big or small the device actually is. Seeing it in the hands of someone I watch on tv most every week gave me more of an idea of its size.
Though to be fair I thought his review was somewhat sparse !

You can get many apps in the UK store. Do a search for iPad and then you can view all. Someone told me about this last week, cant remember their name though!

I set up a US account last night just for free apps, dont need a CC or anything just a US address (off google) and a phone number (off google)!

Thanks Buzby,

So I cant use it out of the box? I have to connect to itunes and activate first??
And can you clarify point 3? You do have to register it? Or are you just saying that i would need a US account to download some apps (like the books).

Thanks

Your best to sign in with your UK iTunes account first then if you want some US apps (iBooks etc) then make a US account. You only need it for the major things like Pages etc if you wan them now, but more apps are in the UK store if you search for them :)

Thanks Nipz, that is exactly what I wanted to hear.
Can you recommend any apps to really show it off?

USPS say the package has left the United States but can't tell me how. ParcelForce say the package has not arrived in the United Kingdom but can't tell me anything about it.

Does this mean it's stuck in a customs queue and has been for two days? :(

So glad I'm in the "being patient for UK release camp", the first ipad ending soonest match on ebay is currently a 16GB one for collection in London, bids are up to £750, with a few minutes to go. And there was me expecting prices to come down a bit now the flights are resuming!

Yes, the Gadget Show review was a bit on the shallow side, wasn't it? I think they should have spent a little more time on this. I generally don't like the direction the show has taken -too many 'challenges', not enough reviews. Its like a low-budget clone of Top Gear for gadgeteers.
Oh, not enough Suzi Perry either, lol. :p

Just to clarify for you - you have to connect to iTunes to activate the iPad, but you DON'T then have to formally register the iPad on iTunes or with Apple in any way before you can use it.

And mine had a 95% charge when I first switched it on. A week of heavy use later and I've still only done a full recharge once! That was after I deliberately let the battery run down until it switched itself off, and then did a full recharge. I once read somewhere that this practice is 'good' for new batteries, but it's probably a load of rubbish. Makes me feel better to do it, though...

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. Mine was posted through USPS on Friday and the tracking states that it has left the country of origin but no tracking since then. I contacted Parcelforce who say that they don't know where it is and that it is probably still in the US. I'm hoping it's languishing in customs somewhere but it would be nice to have some kind of update :(

Technically both USPS and Parcelforce are right in saying that it has neither landed in the UK and yet left the US. It's probably in that part of the UK that isn't in the country, surrounded by an electric fence and a load of tax-hungry bureaucrats.

I just wish the customs service would serve us better and provide some sort of tracking/process information, especially after the six-day shutdown of airspace that may have left a backlog (personally I suspect a stop in inbound flights for a while should give customs enough time to clear any backlog before flights resumed).

I import from the US perhaps four or five times a year. Sometimes customs charges (even when they shouldn't) and sometimes they don't charge (even when they should). But previously I've always had a tracking update showing the package "IN FOREIGN CUSTOMS" or "AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGES" or something like that. Not so this time. I wonder if I should be worried?

Heh - she's a pretty lady fer sure. I can say that hand on heart as a straight female without any shame. :)

I agree about the direction the show has gone in lately. Some of the stuff they use in the challenges is way too expensive and sometimes I feel it's becoming an extreme sports show more than anything else - something I am not interested in one iota. I couldn't give a monkeys about doing the London Marathon course using bikes and trikes and trainers ffs - I want to know more about ipads and iphones and stuff like that, actualy GADGETS. I mean c'mon, they even admitted that the iPad is pretty much THE gadget of the year - so why the sparse review pitting against some little laptop and that dreadful Archos thing ?

OTOH, I can't get enough of the Top Gear challenges. And James May of course. :D

According to USPS tracking, my iPad left the US last Saturday. I chose express shipping, so it should be here by now. The tracking info hasn't changed since then. According to my local Post (I am in Austria) it hasn't entered the country. I am getting really frustrated

That is madness, I am hoping my friend who is going to the states can get me a 64gb 3g & the official case for around £600

The wait is killing me.

I would be posting this on mine if it wasn't for the stupid volcanic ash!

I'm still tempted to get it shipped but with USPS, not sure if it's even worth it though!

The guy I bought it from assures me it was handed over last week and says that the USPS system is sometimes very slow in updating. This has got me quite concerned on a number of fronts!

On the other hand, he's been an eBay member since 1999 and has 100% positive feedback (200 items). I'm sure he doesn't want me tarnishing his perfect record...

Well mine had exactly the same message yours does now on the 21st then in less then 24 hours it updated to package being sorted.

Detailed Results:

Electronic Shipping Info Received, April 21, 2010

I am sorry but he is lieing to you, they do not leave it on that for 8 days. He has not even gave them it, ring USPS they will tell you that.
