Another day with no updates on the USPS tracker. Its totally frustrating. I wouldn't mind if they just put a statement like "Stuck in LA due to Volcano".

I contacted parcelforce who was no help at all. They say it's not in this country so can't help. I wonder if it's held up in customs.

Hi Guys,

Thought I'd pop back on after ordering a MacBook Pro yesterday on the phone to the Apple Store.

I asked the guy who was taking my order if he had any news on when the iPads would be shipped over here after the May 10 pre-order date.

He went into his system and said that the last thing he saw was that orders would be shipped on May 14. However, the date had been removed from his screen, so he wasn't sure if it'd been changed.

Interesting that they'd only give four days for pre-orders if they stick to the date he originally saw...

May 14 doesn't even qualify as "late May", so that is not a possibility.

It's probably been removed because the date has changed to the end of May (maybe).

yeah given how they have delayed the release until the end of May I'd be very surprised if they then move it forward.

Well mine has now been charged at customs and is en route to my depot. That means it has now taken 10/11 days to get to this point. After speaking on the phone with USPS (via Skype) they are happy to open a case, as they have accepted that this has been an unacceptable time (as my package was posted 3 days before the volcano on 48 hour shipping). I've got a call reference so I'll call them back when it arrives for further discussion.

In case anyone is interested, iPad apps are now available to purchase on the UK iTunes store. I just bought two, even though it's more than a month til I can get an iPad.

Full-blown iPad apps or universal iPad/iPhone ones?

Makes me wish I had the fecker even more!

Still can't buy them from the app store direct on the iPad though only iTunes and sync at this point :(

still can't buy the iwork ipad apps from the UK store

Yeah, there's been a few hundred iPad apps up for a while, I got a whole bunch when I got my iPad 64GB last week. But there's still loads missing, like iWork, iBooks, eBay, BBC, Yahoo Entertainment, etc. That's quite frustrating cause I have no intention of using a US account and then having to switch between them in order to get my updates - especially as the majority of my purchases are via iPhone, iPod, and when allowed, iPad, where you can't toggle your account without first synching to the Mac. Too much hassle. I wish they'd just open the UK store officially and be done with it.

All the iPad apps except the iWork ones have been on the UK app store since the US iPad launch. They just don't advertise this on the front page. I noticed because when I searched for an app it returned results for iPad apps and iPhone apps in separate sections.

Lesson learned - I'll be avoiding USPS in future (if possible)...

If you are importing anything, it is always best to use one of the big couriers - FEDEX, UPS, TNT - they clear everything through customs, pay the charges, and deliver the item to you with a customs bill. You don't sit in a queue waiting for UK Customs to get to your item, instead it is expedited by the courier themselves. I've ordered loads of stuff from the US over the years, mostly guitars, mostly via UPS. They usually arrive within 2 or 3 days from the shipping date. They usually clear customs over night.

USPS on the other hand is the US version of the Royal Mail. As soon as it leaves the US, the USPS wash their hands of it, and it falls to UK Customs. It doesn't hit the Royal Mail or Parcel Force until after it clears customs, and can take anything from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

It costs more to courier it, but it's fully tracked from start to finish, clears customs almost immediately, and is usually about 3 days door to door.

you can switch simply on the iphone... you just have to logout of your itunes account and login with the other one... I do this quite often..inside AppStore on the iphone scroll to the bottom where it says "account:... " and select on that..
you can then logout of that account and login to a different one.

Proper frustrating isn't it! I'm suprised I haven't crashed the USPS and Parcelforce servers with the frequency of my tracks over the last week. I must check it every bloody hour.

I bought an iPhone app which pushes notifications when my delivery status changes.

Unfortunately it looks like my delivery status won't change until the package is in my cold undead hands, so a fat lot of good that 59p investment did me!

Wow.. Just had a great overall experience in getting my iPad from the US

Bought it off a kind Macrumors member 64gb iPad + The iPad dock and International express delivery for £525. The guy sent it to me on Wednesday and it has just been delivered to my house, I cant believe how quick the process was from Fedex. I cant wait to get home now and play with it. At work for another 3 hours.

I've just purchased the Official Apple case for £45 + £3 delivery from a UK seller on ebay and he said I'll get it Monday so shouldn't have the iPad naked for too long
