I hope its not £375 otherwise that means I have paid well over the odds to get one a few weeks early..

is that being a bit selfish lol?

Nah, selfish is if you engage in some sinister plot to infiltrate Apple and add a zero to the cost before the iPad's put up for pre-ord... HEY, come back here!

the keyboard critics really lapped that one up lol.

In other news my ipad has just got 1 step closer:

Yeeeaahh!!!:D

edit: btw, how do you pay charges, do you ring the specific depot? thanks

Thanks for the info and advise. I did have one ordered, but in a way I am pleased it's been cancelled. Even though my initial thoughts were to avoid the 3G version due to additional costs I think I would have regretted that decision. After all if I purchase on PAYGO I don't necessarily need to use the 3G function. Hopefully I can return the MiFi bought from 3 without any problems as it's no longer needed!
But still eBay prices appear to be settling down due to the pending pre order date. Oh what to do?!!!

I use a MiFi with my pad. It's great I have it paired with my laptop, pad and iPhone.

It's small so the extra carrying is not a big deal but as it's independent it means that I'm free to put it by a window for better reception. It also means that in places were O2 suck I have a different carrier to use. I also unlocked mine so when I travel I can pick up a SIM at the airport and push it in. No data roaming fees for me anymore.

Btw. For me it took 7 days from the date apple shipped to when it arrived in my Hands ( yesterday) via bundle box. All shipping was with FedEX with no issues with customs.

Did you get 3 to unlock it? I Need mine doing soon.

I did it myself with dcunlocker.. from dcunlocker.com the software is free but you have to pay 15Euros for each MiFi you need to unlock. Oh and you have to run dcunlocker on windows.

This the route I plan to take as well, going to get a mifi soon.
Quick question though and I accept it's a daft question.

Several people in this thread have mentioned picking up a sim at the airport, and putting it in the mifi for use for data when abroad thus avoiding data roaming charges, are these bought at the stores in the departure lounge in UK or at arrivals abroad, how much do you need to get, how do you know if it is for a data and voice service or is for voice only?

Sorry that's several questions built into one!

Good questions.. :)

Well you can buy them anywhere... I usually buy them at the airport I arrive at. however I've usually done a little research first so I know which operator I want to go with and which tariff etc.

You do indeed have to make sure that the SIM and tariff you go with provides data, most seem to now, in Europe anyway. As for how much, well I guess that depends on how much surfing your going to do. But you can always Top up via their website or corner shop if you do run low.

BTW the 3 MIFI does not have a web interface for configuration, you have to use a windows PC with the software which is on the MiFi. You'll need to know the connection details to define the profile. The MiFi supports a few profiles and will pick the right profile automatically. So for me I just spent a little time configuring my top 5 mobile providers profiles into it. So I don't have to when I'm roaming.

I maybe jumped the gun, but i am optimistic going by the keynote where steve mentioned that all iPad 3G were unlocked. Surely at least one provider will offer a data only PAYGO micro sim.

If not i'll be going with the WiFi only version. I am not paying for 2 contracts, especially with the latest iphone coming up soon.

I find it a bit odd that although the three big networks have said they'll offer ipad plans, none of them have come out and said what they are or how much yet (to my knowledge). But on the other hand, the whole "no UK price yet for the actual iPad" situation is odd, so anything goes I guess. :(

I mean, pre order for the damn things is in practically a week - personally I'm basing my 3g or not 3g decision on how much the data is going to cost as much as how much the physical hardware is going to cost. I hope we're going to get some info on data plans before the preorders start, ffs, or at least simultaneously. Else how can anyone make an informed decision if they are considering a 3g ?

I couldn't agree more! I think it's ridiculous that we won't know the prices of anything before pre-ordering starts. I can't see what Apple has to gain by not releasing the prices now, we have been patient enough!

It's just odd behaviour - and irritating. Can anyone think of a tech product from such a large company that has been launched in the last few years with absolutely no price in the UK / European market right up until preorder day ? I can't (but that doesn't mean there isn't one, I don't usually take much notice of product launches.)

I could forgive it if there had been no price ANYWHERE til preorder, but coupled with the "now you see it, now you don't" nature of the shifting release window that we've had, I am feeling a touch bitten by Apple atm. There's a pun in there somewhere. ;) I mean, there is a world outside the US, is there not ?

I think it is going to be hard to know what to do without prices.

At the moment I am 90% sure I will go wifi only and get 64Gb. I have 3g on my phone so I can't think of a good reason I would want it on the iPad.

No information on prices and 3g plans is poor and it is clear that Apple treat the rest of the world less favorably.

I'm not so bothered that the US had the iPad release before the rest of the world. Apple are a US company so I understand that they want to see their 'home' get it first. What is out of order is the lack if information the rest of the world feeds off. The US price was known from launch and the cost of 3g plans. We have been delayed twice and with no price confirmation until preorder. We don't even know if the mobile phone companies are going to offer deals with iPads?

I suspect the pricing isn't that good, and they would rather people bought from the UK rather than importing. I bet when the pricing is announced Apple are worried that the number of people attempting to import them will increase.

by default the 3 Huawei E5 (E5830) doesn't have a web page for administration however you can change the firmware so that it does:

http://blog.brightpointuk.co.uk/huawei-e5-e5830-e5832-imo-firmware-update-available

There are few different versions on the net. I followed these instructions to the letter:

http://www.netvigatoreverywhere.com/download/E5838 Upgrade Guide.pdf

and it worked for me... however people have reported that it door stops the device.. you have been warned don't blame me!!

Was this the Neoprene case that you ordered? (It's the one that I took a punt on for a fiver)

Edit: I also went for one of these. It's a Case Logic E-Sling / Urban Pak / XNTM-1 (small). £25 from the CarphoneWarehouse (also available on Amazon for the same price).

Just out of interest my two cases appeared today. I got the top neoprene one (Black and red trim) and a leather look one similar to the Apple case. They were £4.90 and £10 respectively. The neoprene one is terrible. Far too long so the iPad slops about in it. The other one is much better. My son has the Apple case on his. I may get that when they are in the UK as it seems very neat. It's a matt finish though and will mark very easily.

I believe it is meant to be that way. The last few neoprenes I've bought for various devices have all featured that loose 'ear' at the top. The iPad is gripped tightly by the main body of the case but, yes, it should be borne in mind by any potential buyer that most of the space above the red line on the case in your picture isn't filled by the iPad. The case does its job IMO, which is simply to serve as a storage place whilst carrying the item around in my man-bag. Beyond that purpose a case has no use or value for me whatsoever.
