I suspect the pricing isn't that good, and they would rather people bought from the UK rather than importing. I bet when the pricing is announced Apple are worried that the number of people attempting to import them will increase.

I cant see that is would make any sense to have the cost of the ipad in the UK more than the cost of importing one. Having been delayed twice by Apple i am sure I can wait a week or two for an import.

I am willing to pay a maximum of £600 for a 64Gb wifi only ipad. Otherwise I will import.

I understand that for USPS Express mail UPS can sometimes get involved, I have trawled this thread, but cannot find a contact number, does anyone have it please? I have spoken to both USPS (who said "well it left the country on 17th which cannot be true as UK airspace was shut!) and ParcelForce ("Well it hasn't arrived here yet"), so I am at a loss.

I don't think Apple is all that worried about imported iPads or to put it another way, its concern for imported iPads isn't any greater than for imported Macs. Imports won't push Apple to offer price parity with the US; they hasn't prevented Apple from charging a premium for its Mac computers in the UK. There will always be people who will import but as long as the price gap is not too wide, most people won't bother. I suspect the price premium for the iPad in the UK - and the EU - will be in line with the rest of Apple's devices. So if Macbook Pros are 15% more expensive in the UK than the US, expect the UK iPads to be the same.

Apple went to great lengths to stifle iPhone imports but that was due to the many deals it had with carriers who agreed to subsidize the cost of the iPhone and share in a portion of its revenue with Apple. There was a business incentive for Apple and its partner carriers to ensure that iPhones bought in each country were activated and used with its partner carrier(s) in that country. The iPad is more like its desktops and notebooks. There's no subsidy, no sharing of revenue, Apple gets 100% of the pie.

It's probably held in the post ash backlog hell. I'm surprised it doesn't report that it's landed in the UK though.
Try phoning royalmail.

I did, they said that there is no information on that item. It doesn't look like its arrived in the UK? Any other suggestions or places to call?

I think I might be going to sell my Ipad. I have barely used it and it still has the plastic on, thinking I might sell for £530, hopefully getting everything I paid back.

Just found I have not had much time to use it and wont do till around time UK prices are released. And I also will feel horrible if prices fall around £400 and I paid over £500..

Decisions Decisions..

im concerned that your now the 3rd (i think) in this thread to say about selling up.......

they not all theyre cracked up to be??

They are great, however they are not quite as incredible as i had made them out to be in my mind. I do not think it is quite worth the £500 i paid currently and am a bit annoyed at myself. It does what i want but At this moment in time I do not have much time for it and when i do there is nothing i want to do on it. Mainly because I cannot really afford the expensive apps currently. So figured I would sell and wait so that i can afford the apps when they are officially released.

If I had all the apps I wanted I probably would not think about selling it.

If a jailbreak comes out before Monday I might consider keeping it however.

I've just got back home to find my C160 Customs Form on my doormat. Great - by the time I reply and they get it, it'll be Tuesday and that'll mean my iPad goes out for delivery on Wednesday!

Any my neoprene case and Case logic bag just arrived today too :p

It is better than I thought that it would be. I am pleased that I got the Apple case as it looks right and looking forward to getting the camera kit. I will probably sell my macbook when I get back home and keep the iPad.

My wife thinks the 'pad is great also.

..erm, if you get the apps from the US iTunes store, they are pretty cheap. The most expensive I have seen is $19.99.

If you want a high powered laptop an iPad will not cut it. If you want a device that you just pick up and use and then put down, buy one.

Er sorry but £5 to £15 per app is not cheap to me. Not when i want 5-10 of them.

Why don't you just ring them and pick it up?

Well. If my missis hadn't have gone ape. Actually. She went anti-ape. In the sense that it was the opposite of going ape by virtue of going down the drawn out silent treatment route as oppose to loud wailing, screaming and shouting. Well, you get the idea. If she hadn't have gone anti-ape. I would still be a happy owner of a 16Gb ipad. It's an amazing device.

BTW the 3 MIFI does not have a web interface for configuration, you have to use a windows PC with the software which is on the MiFi. You'll need to know the connection details to define the profile. The MiFi supports a few profiles and will pick the right profile automatically. So for me I just spent a little time configuring my top 5 mobile providers profiles into it. So I don't have to when I'm roaming.

It does if you apply one of the custom firmwares :)

I've got an O2, T-Mobile, 3 and Vodafone PAYG sim cards. The Voda one is a 1GB non-expiring card which cost me a tenner and I tend to use T-Mobile if I need mobile data (it's £2/day or £4/3 days or £7/week) which is a pretty good deal.

I sold my iPad today :( I really wanted to keep it, but just cant resist the 3G model, and hoping UK prices will be good to me. I managed to sell my 16gb wifi ipad for 550 quid, so im hoping I can at least get a UK 3G/WiFi 16GB model for that, or even maybe 32GB. Now I have just got to wait for preorders.
Just one question, if we preorder online, can we pick up in store like it was in America?

Your waiting for the jailbreak version? Must be to pirate the apps. Surely they are cheap enough for what you get for your money. Look at one off games for consoles or PC's. Your talking tens of pounds!

At least it's positive news mate. I'm only sticking around this thread to see you get yours and to see if it was worth the wait :)

To the guy who is worried that it's not all it's cracked up to be - don't worry you'll love it! I can't put mine down and it's better than I had already hyped up in my mind (even taking into account the extortionate amount of money I eventually ended up paying for it).

You are right. Sell the iPad. I have no idea why someone would buy a premium product at a premium price and then complain about the (smallish) price of the components to make it useful.
