If you don't mind me asking what was the final price you ended up paying (including delivery, taxes etc)?

I got a 64GB version which cost £506 (poor exchange at time order was charged and this also includes local US tax). Bundbox cost me £170 (I took the option for additional shipping & return insurances so the cost was a liitle more than normal).

I guess you pay a premium for being an early adopter but now I have it my hands it was well worth it.

:)

My name is McMack and I'm a UK iPad eBay buyer...

The only things niggling at me are the usual eBay misgivings. Even if I just buy a paperclip from that place, I never quite believe in it until the item is in my hands. That sensation is tickling at me right now. What if I turn the thing on and there are dead pixels, or even nothing at all?

I never use ebay for high priced items any more. I got stung and it took an age to sort it out. Ebay is much better now for protecting the buyer so if you used paypal you should be o.k

Also why are we all so adamant that Apple will meet the release date of 'late' April ? Surely if they were confident of that themselves they would have been no trouble announcing price & a fixed date at this stage of the game with 3 weeks max to go to meet that deadline. I doubt currency exchange rates at this stage can be safely approximated as I doubt there will be any further disastrous changes - so the 'silence' from Apple is almost screaming that April will pass and the iPad will not be here, as much as it pains me to think so. I do not remember a time in the last 10 years that the silence of a release date and price was so 'close' to the expected date, and therefore just can't believe it will happen.

I think your right, if we don't get a date and price tomorrow at the os 4 announcement or before we can kiss goodbye to seeing it in April in U.K!

I think if you stick any old MicroSIM in it though, you get 3G connectivity and that's it. I don't think that provides the same handy system that AT&T are able to provide in the US where you can activate and cancel right on your iPad. With any old pay as you go MicroSIM, you would have to pay with credit card or buy top-up vouchers in the shops.

So the only difference is you can cancel on your actual ipad .

So for the UK will it be a pay as you go system and if so would £10 get you unlimited broadband for a month :D.

If so it seems to be the same idea does it not both have sims and both are paid by credit card and can then be cancelled i assume ?

At least with the OS 4.0 update its something that will preoccupy my life with, researching what it means, the pros and cons and then waiting for it to be released, maybe watching pundits views and of course any videos about it on the Apple website! Haven't done anything like that for a while...........

'you just reach out and touch it'

Well there's another 64GB on BIN, but for £700 it's just too much of a premium.

I reckon they'll be £540 on UK launch, and I'm going to wait it out (even though I'm itching to get one). I may still be tempted by the 3G option, but if they say that'll be a month later again, I'm not sure I can hold on.

The fat lady isn't singing yet... :D

is BIN ebay?? if so why is it called BIN:confused::confused:

I've had three emails today from eBay stating:

"We'd like to let you know that eBay has ended an item you were bidding on because the item appears to have been listed without the account holder's permission. We are now restoring the account to its original owner. For privacy reasons, we can't share any further details regarding this member's account."

I'd forgotten I'd even bid on these! They were all different sellers.

If I don't have credit in the account, I have to go and buy some by using a website or visiting a shop. But if Apple step in and get someone to offer us a deal like AT&T are doing, then they may be given the same option of offering activation/cancellation on the iPad itself. Decide you need 3G access? Nowhere near a shop? Just click "Activate" and that's you done. The other thing we can hope for is that Apple gets aggressive with the pricing. Apple managed to get AT&T to go very cheap... maybe they can do the same here.

But, I personally can't see any of this happening after all. When you see the iPad 3G page on the UK site, it specifically says that if you want to use 3G you are going to have to go out and find a provider. Nobody was told that in the US, which makes me think we might not get a fancy, Apple-approved deal.

Nearly 1000 posts, and we've done a few full circles. I bet someone at Apple HQ is just sitting there laughing at us!

I am annoyed at myself. If I think rationally I understand it is a big iTouch and I have a perfectly adequate small iTouch and a nice Macbook (and iMac). I have no idea exactly why I want one - but I want one bad.

I am doubly annoyed at myself. Apple didn't even have to sell it to me. I sold it to myself as soon as I heard that there was likely to be this device available. I will probably pay whatever I need to pay to get one.

To equal things out I am annoyed at Apple. Why could there not be a worldwide launch? People are buying from scalpers on ebay and a whole market of gits are hoping to make off with fair folks cash needlessly.

I wish I could talk myself out of this, I cannot. I need therapy!

They do not need companies to provide the 3G in order to sell the 3G model. They are sim free and will work with any provider.
I think if you stick any old MicroSIM in it though, you get 3G connectivity and that's it.
There is apparently no SIM slot, the MicroSIM is pre-installed and can only be accessed by opening the device up. I say 'apparently' because of course nobody has actually seen one. But this is what I have seen people saying in other threads.

So it looks like it is not going to be quite that easy to just use it on any old network...

Look guys I live in tax free nh. And if you want me to pick you up a I pad and ship it to you I will. As long as I make something off it and I don't get screwed over. If you want to chat about it pm me and we can go from there.

Various prices here

Almost £200 for the upgrade to 3G???
what are you smoking???

Ive got to go with

WIFI

16gb- £350-400

32gb- £440-490

64gb- £530-580

3G/WIFI

16gb- £430-480

32gb- £520-570

64gb- £610-660

So an extra £80 for 3G

and about £90 between the models, maybe more, maybe less...

Just specualtion, but based on the US prices and the current exchange rate I think its plausible

I am considering getting the 64 GB WiFi + 3G iPad, Case and Wireless Keyboard from US using a Mail Forwarder such as BongoUS which will cost me a total of $1,048.54 (£686.62 approx.). iPad + Accessories is $937, Taxes is $56.22 and Shipping is $55.32 from BongoUS but I am unsure of what UK Import Taxes will be and if it is even worth getting it from the US if the UK don't have a MircoSim carried sorted just yet.

I am leaning on buying it as £686.62 approx. is rather good, no?

Honestly, thats alot of money for a toy,

And the UK version may be better than the US one, we dont know, could be some sort of awesome update or something, and it may ship with OS 4.0

Im planning on spending no more than about £500, although i really would like the 3G 32GB version, well see as time goes on...

Add 17.5% on straight away. Unless you can get somebody to mark it as a "gift" and convince Customs that's actually true, that's the VAT you'll be charged when importing.

WiFi+3G is not available in the US right now. It is likely that the UK release will include the 3G model at launch. Plus add to the fact that you will have a MicroSIM inside your US iPad which might only work with a US carrier... I think you are safer waiting until the UK release details have been announced.

I suppose you are right, I may just wait it out a bit longer but I really am itching for one right now :D God I wish they would get on and announce it lol.

Wow, I've totally ignored this thread, that's what iPhone development does to you... especially this ->https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/891707/

I feel like ripping my hair out. It's like having a cck shoved up the bum. I need my iPhone to make sure it's not my code. Hurry up Apple, process my flipping dev payment again.

VAT is still charged on a gift. There is no way currently to avoid paying VAT on an imported item that is coming through a non-passenger port, short of lying about the value.
