Wrist strength and endurance is allot more important that just what you watch on your iPad it :D. I understand what you mean but I'm pretty sure you just need to start doing some wrist curls every night and you'll be good. One handing an iPad isn't a good idea either....this isn't an iPhone.

Uhhh..... You posted about what you may or may not do. That has nothing to do with ergonomics, but is rooted in a decision or opinion. Right. Literacy. And for good measure I cordially invite you to FOESAD.

Whatever dude. Peace with you. Seriously. I posted exactly about the topic at hand (iPad weight and ergonomics). But I really don't want to cause anymore rift with you. I read this thread before I purchased and now am adding to it after to add to the discussion. Which is the point of these here forums. But I do not want to do a pissing contest, you clearly have an opinion and I'm not trying to change it

There is also the Macally iPad case that makes handling the iPad pretty easy. It has a strap that you can slide your hand through and easily position the iPad. Sort of like the Spartan shields.

Yeah, I'll think about it. You'd think as a guy, you're wrists would be the most worked out part of yer body. Strange thing is I actually find it easier to hold with one hand! I think it's me holding it out with my arms up that's the prob, all the blood in my arms is going towards my body and thus making my arms feel weird

Fair enough and I think the lift weight comments are a bit snarky. Notice the edit of my previous post.

In about 99% of my usage the iPad is fine to handle. Maybe this is because I use stands, a case with a strap that lets you slide your hand under it. I can post a photo if interested. It makes using the iPad much easier.

HAHAHA what the EFF is wrong with people today?? If your seriously having a hard time holding the ipad, then you should just stick with your ipod touch. If your getting tired just holding it then maybe you should just give it to me.

Yeah I bought the book thing from twelve south. http://twelvesouth.com/products/bookbook_ipad/ I'm def looking forward to trying it out. Still got a few days wait though. Yeah post yours, I'm thinking I may get a couple to mix it up.

it'd be nice to just be able to say: "put it on the screen Scotty"..but right now with the technology we have, the ipad is a lightweight device. period

Come on people try to relax with the "get a gym membership" snarkiness. Apple products are great, but not perfect.

As someone who loves Apple products ands buys many of them, the iPad is a disappointing to me. One of the main reasons I bought an iPad was to use as a book and even a newspaper reader. To that extent it IS to heavy and unruly.

I'm wondering if our snarky friends have used the iPad to read an entire book? That is totally different than surfing websites, writing emails and the like - whether it's for 5 minutes or 5 hours.

Apple obviously positioned the iPad as a book reader. (See all the ebooks they are selling) So expecting an ebook reader to be "amazing" or "miraculous" - to use their words is not asking too much.

some people make me laugh. You have a thin 10inch screen that's pretty sturdy in your hands with a battery that lasts FOREVER. How much lighter are you expecting your ipad to be.

Majority of the weight is probably Coming from the battery. Would people actually want a lighter ipad with a 3-4 hour battery life instead?

I somewhat agree. I have over 50 books and magazines on my iPad and it is like reading a hardcover vs paperback novel. Holding it does get more annoying than tiresome but the weight of it is slightly more than I'd like.

Even so, I really enjoy it and would not go back to reading books on my iPhone.

Cheers,

I think people want the iPad to take notes from the Kindle/Nook/Kobo in terms of lightness, ergonomics, and portability, while at the same time retaining everything that sets the Kindle apart from those devices. Question is whether that's possible or not.

Lean it on chest at night with hand on top. I have my left thumb to flick pages or scroll up or down and right hand is free to type. Or lean it on the lap, both hands are free. Not supposed to be picked up in the air.

How do you read a book? You don't hold it in the air do you? For long stretches? Of course not. Same with the iPad. Personally I think it's just an excuse.

Not many.

Amazon's Kindle platform is outselling iBooks sixty-to-one.

The iPad is a great portable computer, but it's a lousy e-reader. And the weight is the least of it.
