Is it just me or is it harder to get the lightening cable in than it was on some older devices? It feels like the port is on an angle compared to my old 5s.

I haven't had any problems with cables. It does feel a bit tighter but I assumed that it was because it's a new device for me. I'm using Apple cables as well as the Amazon cables. The longer (9 feet and up) tend to be a little thicker.
[doublepost=1554382472][/doublepost]I asked my wife if she wanted on and she asked why? I told her that it's really fast and bigger than her iPhone 6s+. She wasn't sold on it until I handed it to her. She likes the weight and size. She has an iPad 1 and 2 and I've offered her new devices every year. I never see her using the old iPads though. My motivation is to get a cellular model and give her my WiFi model.

I showed it to my manager and she really liked it - I don't think that she's ever used one before.

I was using it to read a book last night and it's a great experience.

So the iPad Mini will do what her phone does but with better sound, screen, much faster and, most importantly, still has a headphone jack.

How do you do multitasking? I managed it once but when I’ve tried since it wouldn’t work. I was trying photos and Safari. Does photos not support it?

That test was brutal. The screen does feel more susceptible on the Mini than it did on my iPad 3, which incidentally had a quite heavy coaster dropped on it yesterday by the relative I gave it to and survived.

Hi all,

For those of you that have an iPad Mini 4 AND a Mini 5 or have tested both extensively, could you tell me if there's a major difference between them regarding both maximum brightness, and anti-glare/reflectivity?

I'm currently on a Mini 4 128GB, and am seriously considering the "upgrade" to the 256GB Cellular Mini 5, but wouldn't want to end up with a device with less brightness, or more reflectiveness (where I have to see my ugly mug reflected when watching TV shows on the flights I take every week).

Can anyone elaborate? Thanks in advance!

I wish I had the answer for you, but I don’t. However, what you may want to know is that the mini 5 supports the pencil, so it’s oleophobic coating is practically non existent. You will see smudges immediately.

This vid will answer some of your questions, he tests the reflectiveness of the devices shown and it was either in this vid or I read somewhere else that the mini 4’s 100% brightness is equal to the Mini 5 at 75% brightness, so the mini 5 is definitely brighter and I believe due to the laminated screen it’s not as reflective:

Really no difference for brightness/glare, IMO. I did read that 'nits' increased from 450 to 500. Not sure if that's true, or discernible with the eye. True tone does make the two look different...

I can't answer your question re anti-glare and reflection but, for me, the speed makes the upgrade with it. I have the Pro's and sold me mini 4 as it was so slow in comparison. The new 5 is so much faster.

I put matte screen protectors on my electronic devices because of the glare. I didn’t do extensive testing of the two, but I can confirm @Dave Meadows observation that the M5 is much faster than the M4. You don’t realize how much faster for web browsing (because the M4 wasn’t horrible) until you use the M5.

Dock hiding on anyone?

Happened on its own. Have to flick up to see. Restart to get it back. All apps are in folders in the Dock.

Started to happen on 2nd day, less than 24 hours in.

Otherwise really happy. Replaced my IPP 10.5.

I’ve seen a post about it on reddit saying it’s been happening since the 12.2 update but I haven’t experienced it myself.

I use mine for reading among other things. I can’t read too well on a phone so the mini is the perfect form factor. People tell me to get a Kindle. I tell them I love Apple devices.

And you can change background on an iPad so you don’t light up the bedroom. Kindle paper white still too bright on low settings.

I can say for sure that my Mini 5 screen is a bit brighter than my old Mini 4 that I gave to my son last year. He was home this weekend from college and we compared them.

My Mini 5 is a bit snappier in launching apps than his, but his 4 is not terribly slow like the old Mini 2 retina we I gave to my mother-in-law after he got the 4.

We didn't compare reflectivity, but from memory I would say mine is slightly less reflective. However, I still have to tilt the screen to avoid dim overhead lights from reflecting off the screen while watching a movie, just like before. I don't typically notice my own reflection in the screen though.

The Mini 5 is a worthwhile upgrade to the 4, but it's not so great that you should go into debt or anything for the upgrade. But I do feel bad for people who bought a Mini 4 within a few months of the 5 coming out.

As I've made clear elsewhere, I'm really not a fan of the Paperwhite, and I agree about the convenience and the excellence of the four different colour settings on the iPad Kindle app, as well as the various other light adjustments one can make on the device itself. However, your comment about the brightness on low settings on the Paperwhite is flat-out wrong. There are currently 25 different light settings on the Paperwhite (off and 0-24). The lower settings would not light up the inside of a matchbox.

Agreed, my Paperwhite will get quite dim, enough to be unusable in a dark room.

However, it still does not have enough contrast ratio to read the Paperwhite in the dark with the backlight turned down too much. Therefore, I have to use the Paperwhite at a higher brightness level at night than I would like, in order to get around the lower contrast ratio. I have 3 Paperwhite, the 1st gen PW non-cellular, the next generation with improved screen and 3G, and the latest water resistant one with cellular that recently came out, and reading in a dark room at night still requires too much light due to contrast ratio (which is better than my nooks).

My iPhone X and Xs Max OLED screens are great for dark bedroom reading with the black background and white text, with the backlight turned down to between 1-10%.
