And he’s right, just opened up my music up now and scrolled in portrait- its insane!
Tried it… and just like with text, I can see it, but it’s quite slight and doesn’t bother me. Guess I’m just not that sensitive to it. Which is good, because I’m super happy with my mini 6 otherwise.

Wild. I am not doubting you at all, but I don’t see it in either format or direction.
Interesting, I’m hopeful not all units have it, because then it will be a question of exchanging until I get a decent one. When I was in the Apple store this weekend all the display units had the issue, but there’s a few people on this thread swearing they don’t have the issue, so fingers crossed there’s a few good units out there!

Here is music app in portrait super slow mo looks fine?

** seems Vimeo doesn't support slow mo and I cant add it direct to macrumors

Just googled this, and more sites are starting to cover it. Hopefully by tomorrow, there will be enough talk that Apple will have to address it.

I honestly think that most/all units have this, but some may be worse than others, or some users aren’t able to perceive it. My wife is like that with video and audio.

My conclusion so far, also from the twitter thread linked earlier ( ), is that this is an effect that occurs on all LCD displays to a larger or lesser extent, and that it is (a) particularly pronounced on the mini 6, and (b) exacerbated by the fact that the screen refresh orientation is rotated by 90 degrees on the mini 6, so that it now affects vertical scrolling in portrait mode.

Here it is side by side with a mini 5.

This is a disaster. Absolutely absurd. Why did Apple install the screens in the Mini 6 like this, are more people using it in horisontal mode compared to the Mini 5 that they decided to swap how it refreshes? I understand that kind of thinking in iPad Pros that are mostly used horisontally like laptops, but iPad Minis are more like books you take with you.

I expect these kinds of things from cheap Android tablets, but not from an Apple device that only gets a refresh every third year or so, especially from an Apple product that's $100 more expensive than the last one.

With the blooming I only see it in certain apps. I use Twitter in all black mode and I don’t notice it. But when I’m reading a book in the Kindle app in dark mode it’s very pronounced.

I don't really see the blooming either. Again, only in extreme conditions, like complete darkness and 100 percent brightness.

I hope this gets people to see all those YouTube influencers/reviewers for what they really are and how valuable they aren’t. Not one of them mentioned it. My guess is that they weren’t really testing them out, rather, focused on their actual presentations.

It would have been nice if even just one of them mentioned it.

mini 5 on the left, mini 6 on the right
It looks more pronounced on the mini 6 here, but mostly just because the scrolling is faster there, creating larger gaps between the lines. A still from the video:
