Yea I've decided I'm gonna return this hunk of junk. Gives the M1 Mac mini (screen tearing, constant restarts, messed up bluetooth & wifi) competition for worst Apple product I've ever bought.

In all seriousness I think Apple just knows they can basically get away with anything like this now.

Sure there will be a whole bunch of us that won’t buy this because of this… But they’ll also be a huge percentage of people that either don’t notice it or don’t care or just think that’s the way it supposed to be with a weird scroll animation or something.

That’s what I find most depressing

What are they "getting away with?"

You know all the inns and outs of this by now.
Stop trying to pick a fight please.

I’m not gonna sit here and argue with you over and over

Do you think Apple did this on purpose? Do you doubt the tech explanation that its normal for this particular screen? I'm not sure what Apple is getting away with.

Both sides of the discussion are egging each other on.

At this point what isn’t helping is that a lot of people are not reading most of the already posted threads and posts. The whole issue has basically been ironed out totally

Does Tim pay you or something? You seem personally attacked by anyone who criticizes this monstrosity of a product

Oh, by the way, I was personally attacked when one poster said I was either lying, or deluding myself into not seeing it when I said I couldn't really see it.

With respect let’s simply move on and avoid each other.

No offense to you sir but I don’t believe you are debating in good faith on this.
You have read enough of my posts to know the answers to the questions you’re asking me.

We see this situation very differently and I don’t think we’re going to resolve that.
Again… I appreciate your interaction but let’s move on.

We are not adding anything here by responding to each other

The discussion has become devoid of useful information and devolved into bickering. I'm going to quit following it and when my M6 shows up tomorrow, I will use it as I normally would and see if there are significant problems that bother me.

wonderful!
Enjoy

Every iPad has this problem, as do the iPhones. As do pretty much every screen, as far as I know, usually noticeable in landscape. The problem is that it refreshes vertically, so it's much more noticeable because of the narrow display in portrait mode.
I've never noticed jelly scroll on ANY iPhone or iPad I've ever owned from 2008 and on... But the Mini 6 I noticed it RIGHT AWAY so it's definitely much worse than on any other iPad/iPhone.

I'm just tired of the hyper over reaction that clutters these forums with every new release of a product.
It’s always the same. People running all sorts of weird tests to try and find flaws, when actually in day to day use, it’s fine.

I get the impression so many people impulse buy their products now and then seek some sort of flaw because they know deep down they don’t actually need the device, and rather than admit that, they can blame the issue when they return it.

So I just read this thread on Reddit about Oneplus 5 for fun. It got me thinking on the fact that Apple really couldn't have responded in any other way, like one user wrote:

"A couple of things here. While they did say it was 'natural', they didn't deny the jelly effect in their statement this week. They mainly just focused on saying that it wasn't a hardware defect (presumably to prevent people from trying to RMA it because a new phone wouldn't fix the issue)."

So while I don't think Apple can do a software solution for this, there might still be an opening for Apple to change orientation in the future based on popular preference, not technical issues.

Will they do it though? I wouldn't hold my breath, but it doesn't have to be set in stone, especially if non-techie people keep returning them.

Edit: I hate when my clumsy fingers post before I want to.

Scrolling a website in portrait mode hardly counts as a "weird test" for a tablet 😂

I sure hope so...

Particularly one that's been exceedingly popular as a Portrait orientation device (one handed or otherwise)

I’ve got to a scroll pretty fast to notice it. I’m not going to be reading anything while scrolling that fast. I use it in portrait most of the time.

It‘s just not an issue for me at all, and I’m grateful for that when I see how ”unusable” it seems to be for others.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else have a 2020 Fire HD 8? Does it exhibit jelly scrolling in portrait or landscape? I'm not seeing it on mine. I can see it on the Mini 6, but not in either orientation on my Mini 5 nor Fire HD 8.

Apple will sell 10s of millions of them worldwide, so I truly wonder how many those people will return their Mini 6 over the confirmed jelly issue……90%? 50%? 25%? 10%? 1%? .01%?

I wish there was a way to find out.…..an accurate number would be interesting!

I haven't decided whether to try upgrading from my mini iPad 5 yet. I use it mostly in landscape mode (because it's easier to read PDF's), so perhaps this won't be a problem for me if I do get the mini 6.

I think you'll very much enjoy the upgrade if portrait mode isn't a concern
