Well I got a nice surprise. I ordered my Mini late and received an estimated shipping range of Oct 5-8, but I just received an update saying it has shipped and I will get Sept 28! Nice improvement in delivery time!
That’s awesome. I wonder what makes some ship early and not others. My delivery window is Sept 30-October 5 and has been on “preparing to ship” for a week now.

I realize things aren’t always the same 100% of the time - and that things can be different with preorders. But I preordered my mini last Monday, with an expected delivery date of Sept 30 - Oct 5. It switched to “preparing for shipment” on Tuesday and charged my card, which from Googling seems to mean that it will switch to shipped fairly quickly; so I was hoping that I’d get my iPad earlier than the window.
But it’s now sat at “preparing for shipment” for a week now. Any thoughts on what could be going on?

I ordered my ipad Mini 6 (64GB, Purple, wifi) as soon as orders opened after the reveal. Was given a Sept. 24 delivery date. Apple order status says "Shipped", but I also got an email late on Friday that said it might be delayed, with no new estimated delivery date. The UPS tracking number they gave me shows an estimated delivery of 9/24 (lol), but for status, just "Label created". If I go into the details, I can see a Rialto, CA address, but nothing else. Kinda frustrated, would be nice to at least have an idea when it might *actually* ship.

Just got an email from Apple saying they were working on a replacement. They showed my original order as shipped, but UPS claimed they never got it. New estimated arrival date for the replacement was Oct. 20-27. Decided to use the delay as an opportunity to switch from 64GB to 256GB. Contacted support via chat, had them cancel the original 64GB order, and then placed a new order for a 256GB wifi model in purple. Estimated arrival for that is also Oct. 20-27.

Ah, the infamous UPS black hole. Ive been burned once or twice with shipments, though not with Apple.

I have been trying to get a mini from Apple Stores but no stock at all. Best Buy claims to ship to me by tomorrow. Anyone have any experience with them? Can't figure how they have them and Apple Stores have not for days.

I ordered a 256GB 5GHz Mini 6 from BB on the 25th and it's scheduled for delivery by OnTrac today. I see they are out of stock on all colors of that particular configuration now.

I just checked my local Best Buy. They have some in stock that I could pick up today. I’m tempted to do it because my delivery window from Apple is tomorrow-next Tuesday, and still just says preparing to ship. I was hoping they would be on their way by now.

Probably from the original shipment they ordered and received from Apple. It's not like Apple Stores and authorized retailers are working off the same stock. Each have their own allocations. Apple Stores just ran out of theirs sooner.

I've ordered Apple products from Best Buy for pick-up in store and that's always been successful. And I've had other non-Apple products shipped from Best Buy with no problems. More recently, my mother ordered an iPad Air shipped from Best Buy last month, it did have a one day delay from the quoted shipping time but was otherwise a good experience.

If Best Buy ordered a set amount of stock and just hasn't sold out of it yet, it makes sense how they could have stock even though Apple doesn't. Happened one year for me buying an iPhone...shipment was going to be delayed through Apple but Best Buy had it in stock (I think this was my iPhone 5s, so long time ago). I was able to pick up in store at Best Buy on launch day with no pre-order.

Same. I got several of my past iPhones through BestBuy when Apple was sold out. Same with my Watch.

I would not trust their Geek Squad to walk my dog, but as far as retail goes, they've never failed me with Apple products at or near launch day.

I ordered from Best Buy a 256GB cellular version this AM - they just started showing cellular versions available for order. There was no delivery option, only pickup at a local store here in Seattle on Oct. 4. Just checked and they now show Sold Out. I ordered at BB because I had some credit I wanted to use up.

Supposed to deliver today but knuckleheads at OnTrac routed it through Reno, Nev. so it's stuck in a warehouse because everything in the area is messed up by the fires. grrrrrr .....
