The most comfortable gaming tablet
Four years of Genshin Impact on my mini 5 still. Perfect size for it. Will definitely upgrade.

Also with some others here on the landscape usage. I almost never use my mini in portrait mode. It's the perfect size for doing everything in landscape.

Will be interesting to see what they do on price. At the moment the Mini is $499 compared to $349 for the regular iPad. Last gen this made sense as the Mini had Pencil 2 & TouchID in power button support. Now, I'm not sure a laminated screen will cut it. If both iPads get the base A18 (to bring AI to all the current line up) then I can see the Mini being pitched definitely an iPad Mini rather than the iPad Air Mini the current model was pitched as at launch.

However, one rumor suggests Apple may address the "jelly scrolling" issue by rotating the screen assembly. This change would be made to minimize the noticeable lag when scrolling vertically in portrait orientation
Apple might relocate the front-facing camera to the landscape edge, as seen in the latest iPad Air. This change could improve the video calling experience, especially when using the device in landscape orientation.
So Apple will rotate the screen assembly while at the same time creating more incentives for using the iPad mini in landscape orientation? Alright I've found the next MR controversy lol

I remember when the Mini originally launched, Apple positioned it as the entry-level iPad, but it turned out that people looking for a low-cost Apple tablet still wanted a full-size screen, and people who did desire the smaller form factor didn’t want low performance to be the trade-off—so the current Mini is essentially a reduced-size iPad Air.

I personally would love to see the Mini become something closer to the Pro line, but the addressable market for such a device probably isn’t that big. I’d settle for a mini-LED display, but I doubt that’s in the cards either. We probably won’t see a Mini with a high-performance display until Apple completes its transition to OLED in the next couple of years.

My Mini 6 is severely beat up by my kids, every corner dented beyond recognition.
The jelly scrolling vertically is horribly, it is very very noticeable.

I hate the finger print button which half the time does not work for me.

I seldom use it anymore, as my iphone 15 pro does everything better plus i dont have to blow up apps to 2X because said developers never bothered to create a ipad dedicated app.

My Kindle is my prefered method of reading, i no longer use ipads for reading technical documentation, something i did heavily during the ipad 2 area.

My kids however still love playing games on the ipad mini 6.

I will always remain having a softspot for ipad mini`s as they are just in my mind the perfect travel companion but after having it tried dozens of times, i always feel disappointed by the experience doing so.

That being said a edge to edge display with almost no border + faceID may get me back onboard.

Long overdue in my book

The display quality on the Mini 6 is the worst of any new Apple product being sold today

Just walk around a store that has all the Apple stuff on display and it's easy to see how every single other Apple product seems to have a better looking, higher quality, display experience.

It's not a resolution issue -- it's a quality of the panel in question issue
There is far more to a quality display than raw resolution numbers

(Best Buy is good for this walk around test as it's a confined area with lots of Apple stuff close together)

I’ve been doing every-other upgrades with the Mini and this one is long overdue.

It is the *only* option for a lot of people using ForeFlight. I just wish they would put a brighter screen in it. The Mini is the perfect size to be a great tool.

If you don’t mind me asking, how is your battery health on the Mini 5?

It may seem a bummer for iPad Mini owners that Apple only updates the device every three years or so (versus every year for Air and Pro), but this means that every update is a rather major one and worth getting.

Probably a daft question, but since we all have our phones with us all the time, what's the point of the iPad mini?

I’m curious to see what a foldable iPad mini looks like! I love the size of the mini but it feels a bit redundant with my iPhone, especially since iPhones (especially the pro line) generally have better screens and better app support.
They likely won't miss the chance to turn it into a $$$$$ iPhone or Ipad Fold (depending on OS), just like the Plus becomes a Slim rumoured to be pricier than Pro Max. When life gives them lemons, they make Lemon Pro.

1. People who find the 11" iPads a bit too large ; 2. People who feel the largest iPhones are still too small for them and want something larger, but not as large as an 11" iPad.

For me its bigger screen makes it easier in many different ways. As my previous comment stated I have a iPad Mini 5 with a Brydge 7.9 keyboard. It means I have a pocket size laptop that will handle what I want to use it for.

  1. Downloading, viewing and selecting photographs I want to keep from my camera. The larger screen gives me a better idea of the colours and focus of them.
  2. Watching streaming movies is nicer.
  3. Much nicer to read books on, the screen is about the same size as a novel.
  4. Because I have the keyboard, when I kept a blog I could work on that on the go.
  5. Larger image for FaceTime calls.
  6. It potentially saved my job once, because my computer died when I was due to go into an important meeting. At work I had a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, coupled with a Lightning Adapter and my AirPods I had a mini computer to attend and present at the meeting.
  7. Again because I added the keyboard I can answer emails in a more verbose manner, wherever I am
  8. I can write small essays on MacRumors for comments like this 😂

I find the aspect ratio of the phone to be less than great for browsing content on the web, and especially for e-reading. The onscreen keyboard is also a lot more comfortable for me to type quickly with. The phone works great in a pinch, but I find my mini to be a much more pleasant experience, and will use it for anything that requires more than a minute or two of my time (assuming it's handy).

I love my iPad mini, probably my favorite iPad, but the only update I'm actively wanting for it is Face ID. It's sort of annoying to have this device be most similar to my iPhone and other iPad but have a different method of unlocking. My second thing would be for the volume/lock buttons to all be in similar places on the device.

In addition to Face ID.

Keeping Touch ID around on keyboards at least makes sense, but the separate implementation with the power button on iPads needs to go.

better have Face ID and an M chip or no buy
Note the consensus, Apple!:
