The next iPad mini will feature an OLED display, display industry analyst Ross Young said in a social media post on Wednesday.

"Next iPad Mini will have an OLED," he said, succinctly.

Compared to the iPad mini 7 and previous models of the device, which have LCD displays, benefits of OLED technology should include increased brightness, higher contrast ratio with deeper blacks, improved power efficiency for longer battery life, and more.

Given the iPad mini 7 just launched this week, it could take at least a few more years before the iPad mini 8 is released. While the iPad mini was updated on an annual basis between 2012 and 2015, the device has only been updated three times since then, including in March 2019, September 2021, and this month.

Apple has been gradually transitioning its products to OLED displays, including the iPad Pro earlier this year, so it would make sense for the iPad mini to eventually follow suit. Plus, an iPad mini with an OLED display has already been rumored previously, so it looks increasingly likely that such a device is on Apple's roadmap.

Other devices rumored to get an OLED display include a new iPhone SE next year, followed by the iPad Air and MacBook Pro in a few years from now.

Young is the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, and he has a mostly-accurate track record with display-related information for future Apple products. For example, he was the first source to reveal the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max would feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively, over a year before the devices launched.

Well that was fast. iPad Mini 7 on WED, iPad Mini 8 rumor on THU.

But did you hear about the iPad Mini 9? ;)

Personally- and joking aside- my next Mini is the 9 or 10. Until then, the 6 will be "good enough"... just as the "2" before it. These things have long use-life legs. Unlike "the precious," they don't seem to suffer the mysterious(?) "long in tooth" effect... presumably because they are "latest gen" for at least a few years. I like to let them run until the wheels fall off.

It’s not just a convenient everyday device, but also my go-to for media consumption—including movies.

Yep, even on such a small display, I love watching movies. In bed, on a plane, or whenever the iPad Pro 11 just feels too bulky. That’s when I really start to hate the glowing grey instead of true blacks. OLED/MicroLED everything, please!

The recent lukewarm upgrade made it easy to stick with the Mini 6, but this would definitely push me to upgrade. The 6 is fast enough and it’s safe to say it'll still be for many more years, almost certainly even past the Mini 8 release... but OLED 🤤

I’d actually love that. As well as an iPhone Mini Pro—great features in a compact size. But yeah, it’ll also come with a bigger price tag since it’s harder to pack the best tech into the smallest form factor.

Yet another genius Nostradamus level 'prediction' by someone looking for column inches.

The 7 has literally only just launched. Given how Apple have treated the mini in the past - thats your lot for at least 2-3 years now.

Might a future iteration have OLED? sure - why not.... but not before the iPad Air has an OLED screen as the mini seems to be treated like the 'air mini'.
Sure we all want a pro level mini with promotion etc etc etc but unless or until Apple sees the mini as an iPad Pro Mini... and releases the pro in a 3rd size option (i.e. smaller) then its not going to happen.

With a little slimmer bezel due to OLED(better battery life) , ipad mini can have 8.8~9 inch screen(?)

To be fair it will be an article saying its not happening, then one saying the iPad Mini 9 will have micro LED, and then one saying the iPad Mini 8 is going to have OLED, and then one calling us idiots for believing the rumors and the new iPad Mini has LCD because its now retro.
