Might a future iteration have OLED? sure - why not.... but not before the iPad Air has an OLED screen as the mini seems to be treated like the 'air mini'.
Apple’s OLED roadmap was leaked earlier this year, according to which the iPad Air is getting OLED in 2026, the mini in 2027.

Of course it is.
But let all people dream.

Sadly, that's all we ever really get to do in the Apple "mini" product space..."Dream"

Dream of a day when we could get reasonably sized devices with specs that are somewhat in line with the current year and appropriate given the prices being charged

Instead we get left over old parts from other Apple products of the past, at prices that are too high for what is being offered.

Or, if one prefers "Mini" iPhones, we truly only get to dream ... as we are forced to keep using increasingly older abandonware

One day....

We will be able to a larger customization, after Cook is gone.

Never forget - Stay hungry, stay foolish!

That's part of the attraction for me. I find it very useful for viewing A4 docs as they pretty much fill the screen
We are talking about an 8” device here though, which is closer to A6, less than a third of A4 in screen area.

My eyesight is still just about good enough - make it higher contrast oled, and I'm golden for a few more years.

It’s pretty simple.
Outside of the chip (which is likely different due to the smaller form factor) the iPad Air and Mini usually stay synced.
The Air has a 60Hz LCD, the Mini as well.
When the Air updates to OLED, that’s about the time the Mini will as well.
And rest assured, OLED * Absolutely does not guarantee* 120 Hz.
If the Air sticks to a 60 Hz OLED, the Mini will as well.

Great. And that was me not ever having seen this.

So, do I now qualify as Nostradamus-in-chief?

How do I get a job making stuff up thats pretty much guaranteed to come eventually?

The iPad mini should unapologetically be a media consumption and gaming device. Its current screen has a 1.52:1 aspect ratio, which is similar to comic books but not as wide as paperbacks (1.60:1) or common video content (1.78:1). While I wouldn't go as far as 1.78:1, it should certainly be 1.60:1.

As skeptical as everyone is, some of the experts are pretty accurate. They're plugged into the supply chain.

I think the point is... even though its said tongue firmly in cheek...

That yes supply chain spies can indeed predict accurately forthcoming stuff - the likes of which most others couldnt really get right.

However, the point here is that 'oooh the iPad mini will have an OLED screen' - I mean, sure it will - eventually.

It's a bit like saying that the iPhone will have under-screen faceID or under-screen front facing camera.... it's something that doesnt take any qualifications to say will happen someday.
Solid state batteries are coming - soon. Next year MG cars will be the first to have one. Solid state is a significant game changer in battery tech and again.... iPhones will get solid state batteries in the next few years. genius.

So just speculation on what it could have. In reality whatever changes come to the iPad Air in the next couple years will be pushed to the next iPad Mini along with an updated A series chip in about 3 years. Or by then increasingly larger iPhones and/or the addition of a foldable device will just lead to the iPad Mini being discontinued.

The best way to predict what's coming to the Mini is to determine which leftover iPhone parts they'll have laying around

As for the screen ... basically anything they do will be an improvement

60hz refresh rates on a device in 2024… you’ll only see this coming from Apple 🤑
Problem is there’s very little competition in the 8 inch tablet space even with android. The vast majority of them are 60hz too, there’s the budget Redmi Pad SE with a 90hz display but I strongly dislike their Android skin and have had mostly bad experiences with it. There’s also the Lenovo Legion Y700, not really finding anything else with anything above 60hz.

The latest version of Android is looking very Apple like (don’t know who is copying who) and is using more capabilities for a tablet device like real multitasking and window resizing etc.

It seems like Apple has been stuck with their iPad OS for ages while Android made big strides.

All the Apple Intelligence Apple promises for next year are all available right now on Android. As are better assistants compared to Siri.

Lenovo Legion Y700 has 160hz screen refresh and better screen resolution:
