I am. Going from the 11 inch to the 8 inch will not be that much different. Besides, the form factor it’s so much better to carry around.
Good to hear, I was afraid it will be too much smaller real estate and I hate the 11" on my hands always feel like slipping out and heavy for web browsing.

FINALLY!! After years of ipad mini fans waiting for a proper upgrade, we got it. Maybe I’m going to miss face id, promotion or miniled (in that case would be perfect), but I’m in anyway…

I’m a huge fan of the mini, so happy to see this update and ordered already. Mine will be complementing my 12.9” iPad.

Gotta say though, when I tried the 10.9” Air last year to go along with my Pro, the lack of Face ID and promotion were very noticeable.

I waiting till the disclosure on RAM! If 6GB RAM or more I will buy! If it is less, pass until Mini Pro is released!

IPad mini with the 2nd gen Apple Pencil would be a great field device for me. Id likely ditch my 11” iPP in favor for a mini like this.

likewise!
This Saturday my sister gets my 2018 iPad Pro 11” with cover decal and pencil 2 (I should NOT have mentioned the pencil) as she’s the visual artist in the family.

this will be a HUGE benefit for her busy lifestyle as a performer (actress, dance choreographer) and replace her failing MBA 2011 11”.

I’ve pre-ordered iPad Mini 6 256 with Pencil 2.

You might be waiting a very long time.

"MacRumors can confirm that the new iPad mini has 4GB of RAM, an increase from 3GB of in the previous iPad mini."

And by the time they provide 6GB, people will likely want 8GB. Can't win.

It is very different in terms of screen real estate. I have the current iPad mini 7.9 which is just shy of 8 inches and the iPad Pro 11. The iPad mini is much nicer to use and hold though.

Geez I just bought the iPad Air 4 although I do prefer the bigger size of the Air than the mini. Why would anyone choose the Air 4 over the mini now unless it's for the bigger screen?

Screen and device size can be pretty important factors when buying. If I were in the market for a mid-size iPad, the mini wouldn't even be in the running. It'll be between Air 4 and Pro 11.

So you're telling me that if you were in the market for a mid-sized iPad then you would buy one of the mid-size iPads? :)

Just reiterating a point since the poster was asking "Why would anyone choose the Air 4 over the mini now unless it's for the bigger screen?".

For many, device/screen size and weight are major determining factors. Heck, I've had folks ask me for recommendations where the only criteria was the biggest iPhone or iPad screen size available.

I feel for your sister, my friend. My 2011 11" MBA died on me last month. RIP.
Oh man, I never want my 2012 11” MBA to die. The closest to a perfect laptop I’ve ever owned. Looked for max level logic boards on eBay but they’re still out of my price range.

I think my RAM has failed according to Google when I searched the issue. When I turn it on, nothing happens and it makes a large beep sound, followed by a break, and then keeps repeating until I hold the power button down.

i haven't thrown it away, wondering if I should find someone to fix it - may require a whole logic board replacement. Not sure it's worth it. It's my favourite of all the laptops I've owned, though :( I really hope Apple releases something in a similar size again at some point.
