I've had mine for a day and I LOVE IT so far. I've been busy so I haven't been able to use as much as I wanted to yet, but for everything I have done it's been great. Using it while laying in bed right now. I know a lot of people say it's not made for that....no issues here. For context I am a bigger guy with larger hands. Opposite of trumps baby hands.

Here's another reason for setting up as new. I am just now seeing this issue. I set my new 12.9" iPP from my 9.7 iPP backup. Every where I look now, this 12.9" is described as iPad Pro 9.7" i.e. ICloud Backups or anywhere in Settings where you would see the device name. I have corrected the name in General>About but that doesnt correct anywhere else in Settings and I cant figure out how to change it manually. Really dont like it showing wrong name in iCloud Backups.
Its been so long since I got an iPad, that it seemed like the best approach for me. Let me start off from scratch and then install what I want.

After receiving my new 12.9" on Friday, I gifted my 9.7" ipad prowith its ridiculously expensive smart cover/back case, to my 17 y.o. Grandaughter. It will replace her ipad 4. While she was very excited about the gift, she was fascinated with my 12.9". She will be a senior in high school, is a straight A student and has had 1A colleges keeping up with her since she was a freshman for her outstanding basketball ability. Sooo, it looks like I will be upgrading my 12.9" as soon as they release another one. As much as I love it!

Sounds like the long wait between your Air 2 and this is a very worthwhile wait eh!

Now let's see how will it be like for me from Air 1 to this! (Nope, that 12.9 I have don't count as I didn't use much of it and am selling it off :p )

Even using the Smart Cover on the bed is ideal on this thing. Shows it's not all about the Keyboard to get good usage out of this.

I'm still looking, on my 12.9", how to enable/disable bold, italics, and underline. Oh, the capability is on the tool bar right in this box I'm typing on, in this forum. But I frequent another forum where it is up to my device's keyboard (built in screen) to be able to enable/disable those functions. I did a google search and find no mention of it.

I love this thing naked and think I will keep it as is.

I bring my rMBP with me for work and on the go and the 12.9IPP stays at home on my Logi dock for nighttime and social use at home and the rMBP stays in my work bag.

It's a fantastic combo and would love to get rid of my laptop but I use a program that requires a computer.

I was thinking of the gorgeous saddle brown smart cover but may stay naked for a while.

Have you guys ever used a drill as you can drill holes in the silicon case for the camera, flash and 2 mic's

I'm waiting to make sure they don't release one delayed. If so I'd prefer to give the old one to the person inheriting the iPad if at all possible.

Did they change the Leather Smart Cover dimensions? I thought the basic one used to have a noticeable overlap at the edges to accommodate the silicone back cover.. The leather one sits flush with the edge of my naked iPad Pro 12.9. Perhaps a sign that Apple has no plans to release a silicone case as some have speculated?

Spent past hour on the bed browsing on web and YouTube with my 12.9 pro with no issues handling the size.

It might not be as portable as the 10.5 but there really is no issues using it the same way as the smaller iPads. It's certainly easier to type on the far bigger keyboard.

Any upgraders from 1st gen Ipad Pro 12.9" with a decent amount of usage time to compare?

I went from 1st generation to 2nd generation 12.9. I'm probably not what you'd consider a "heavy user" in the sense that though I use mine for hours every day, I don't do a ton of different things with it.

I am glad I upgraded for the pro motion alone. I didn't realize how much my other one was glitchy and blanking out when scrolling until I got this one and it doesn't do it at all. The true tone is nice, and though I wouldn't have upgraded for that, it's a nice bonus. I did upgrade to the 512, although I really didn't need it (the 256s weren't gonna ship from AT&T til the end of the month and I just didn't really want to wait). It'll be nice to have the space, and I may actually load up some movies and stuff since I have room.

I used my pencil today for the first time and I can't get over how awesome it is working now. I mean it was pretty darn good before, but there is zero lag - it's just like I'm writing on paper. I don't draw or anything, but I use my pencil for writing itineraries on my pad and I do it in split screen while I have travel guides open, so having it work even better is another big plus.

I know I'm not giving you anything technical, but overall, I'm really pleased I made the upgrade.

I went to the Apple Store today and checked out both models. Beforehand I figured I would want the 12.9 and after playing with both there's no question the larger iPad is the iPad for me. Now to save a little dough before iOS 11 comes out and I'll be very happy with the new 12.9

While you're typing you have to highlight the sentence or phrase you want to bold, italicizes or underline and tap on the highlighted word(s) this will bring up an option to select any one of those (B/I/U) so you can do so. Tap on B/I/U and then you can select exactly what formatting you want to apply.

Please see my meh screenshot below for an example.:p

Depends upon one's definition of "update". Apple will most certainly release a new iPad in 2018. The question is, "which one?". Could a Mini Pro be it? Possibly an 11.7 Pro?

My guess is that a SOC update next year is a given:
- A11 is being manufactured for the iPhone using a new 10nm node, yielding higher performance/lower power consumption
- A11X should be ready in March next year... why not update?

Big question is what Apple will do with the 12.9" form factor:
1) shrink bezels only ?
2) reduced screen size (12-12.5") ?
3) go full monty and eliminate home button plus 1&2? Thus reducing size even further?

First of all, thanks for your impressions...

And one question please.

How about battery life?

My thoughts are with the next iPad update, (major update that is), will be eliminating the home button altogether on the iPads. That said, if Apple has everything aligned with the company Synaptics, they potentially could have the home button embedded in the display.

I also see the 12.9 iPad either being in a smaller footprint or retaining the current size, but with a reduction of the bezels, thus creating more display.
