If anything I think they would update the Mini 4 to a new iPad Mini model to match the new naming scheme, and A10 processor. Outside if that I dont see Apple doing anything major with the Pro line next year.
While I'd love to have A10 on the mini, that seems somewhat unlikely with the 2017 iPad 9.7 sporting a 2-year old A9. Sure would be great though, and the mini could definitely benefit from big.LITTLE in A10.

I own the gen 1 12.9 and received the gen 2 on Tuesday. Sadly I am returning it.

Still love the 12.9 but the gen 2 doesn't offer much in the way of improvements. The screen is slightly better, speed is not noticeable, and battery life has been similar.

Not worth the upgrade, hopefully the next gen will offer more improvements.

Well I'm thinking to get it and trade in my first gen of iPP 12.9, I own LTE since new gen has lighter weight and with WiFi only it would be more lighter in my opinion, how did you feel its weight?

Besides 512 GB storage is the biggest feature for me. I heard with setting the true tone and promotion up you will get a better battery without dimming the light.

Got there and played in the Apple Store for like an hour. Back and forth really put them both to the test.

In the end I was blown away by ProMotion and the tasks I do fit so much better on the 12.9.

Resale value be damned and I'll deal with that when the time comes.

Thanks for all the input and very happy to enjoy this new device.
LOL Congrats! You're going to have a blast! :D

2 days in and I'm adjusted to the 12.9 inch screen size, it just feels normal now I don't see how people use the smaller ones anymore.:D

Your sentiments are exactly how I felt about the iPhone 6 Plus when it launched. I was always use to the 4.7 iPhone and then I switched to the Plus model last year, and I will never again go back to anything smaller than a 5.5 inch display. My point is, it just offers so much more in terms of utilizing the display more and of course you get a larger battery as well.

The 12.9 iPad is offers more if someone can adapt to the overall size of it.

Just arrived now

Fine to set things up and see the difference :)

I always set up as a new iPad.

Does it really matter which way it's done as I always wondered myself.

Don't think it matters, I just couldn't be bothered to put all my stuff on it. Takes ages for me due to what I have on it.

This Smart Keyboard is great. Certainly one of the things I missed from the having it before.

Even though the speed may not be noticeable at first, people may find it noticeable over time, depending on what they use it for. It's multicore score is double. This is substantial. But the first gen was very fast itself, and saving money is a very good thing :)

Just received my iPad Pro 12.9. I can't understand all the hype about proMotion. It is barely noticeable but there are still many places where iPad stutters (rotation, app switcher etc.).

Agreed, speed wise it's amazing. On level CPU wise as most computers

I'm still waiting on my 12.9", hopefully arriving next week. So, atm, I have lots of time to ponder. Well, when I'm not on this forum with my 9.7" iPP. Anyway, just wondering about those setting up by restoring on the 12.9". When I got my 9.7", setting up as a Restore from my ipad air 2, downloading my Apps (and not many at all) it seemed to overwhelm my 9.7" ipp. Took into the next day to get all loaded. And the ipad air 2 I was using to restore from had around 20gb total storage on it. Just wondered if I should just set new 12.9" up as New because of this? All my Photos/documents are in icloud and my Apps are in Purchased in the ios app store. Right?

Hmmm cause mines all butter haven't seen 1 stutter in those places

So glad I got the Smart Keyboard and Smart Cover

Sometimes propping it up on your leg on the sofa is better for viewing video content. As hardcore YouTube viewer it's needed

That could be Apple's new slogan... ProMotion: All butter, no stutter :D

I can understand why some would say that ProMotion is a gimmick. Stuttering on the 1st gen 12.9 is virtually non-existent for most of us.

I'm more interested to hear from those who upgraded from the 1st gen 12.9 to the new one and how THEY perceive ProMotion.

That could be. But it is equally likely that those who see a tremendous difference in smoothness are a member of that rare breed of human with X-Men-like superhuman vision... y'know, those who can identify individual pixels on a retina display 5 feet away. #shrug

That's true well exaggerated but I get it since my friend wouldn't notice this at all, he fails to notice any technical improvement in technology, as I assume a large portion of the population would. Unless you need it or understand what it means/how it works/what its doing I don't think you'd be able to notice it.

Yea I havent opened mine from the box yesterday so curious if it matters how it is set up as new versus restore and the experience in the long run.

I've always been set up as new kind of fella based on what I have read and see but not sure if it truly makes a difference.

I can't believe I didn't open it last night but was completely swamped. Will be a fun unboxing and set up tonight though with a beer and enjoying my Butter from another Mother.

I shouldn't be reading this thread since I'm second guessing my upgrade decision and this thread isn't helping. ;) I had both the 9.7" and 12.9" 1st gen iPads Pro, but have upgraded the 9.7" this year to the fully specked out 10.5" iPad Pro and I am also keeping my 1st gen 12.9" iPad Pro.
For the past year, the 12.9" has probably been my favourite size. The 9.7" was great and portable, so went in my handbag, but the 12.9" was the one that I mostly reached for at home. I love the 10.5" upgrade from the 9.7" and it's my new take everywhere iPad.....but it will be interesting to see which one I end up picking up more often in a few months time. I think that I'm feeling a little torn at the moment since I'd love to have the 512GB storage in my 12.9" and I wasn't happy when Apple released the 256GB 1st gen only some months after launch. I'm close to making my 12.9" my main computer, but feel that the storage is holding me back. I have 512GB now in my 10.5", so it will be interesting to see if that becomes my main computer, over the 12.9". My current thought is that I will upgrade the 12.9" next time to the maxed out 12.9" iPad Pro gen 3. One of the reasons that I upgraded the smaller Pro this time was because my husband would then get my 9.7" Pro and 11yo daughter would get the iPad Air 2 (upgrade from mini 2). My 15yo daughter has the iPad Air and is in line for the 12.9" Pro next time since she is very keen for it, while the others like the smaller size. So, the whole family upgrade plan played into my upgrade decision and I think that I made the right choice for that reason, but if that didn't come into play, I think that I would have upgraded the 12.9" this time around. I'm sure that iOS 11 will give my 12.9" a nice upgrade until the next hardware update....and then I will doubly enjoy the upgrade.
