just wondering about those setting up by restoring on the 12.9".

I've always been set up as new kind of fella based on what I have read and see but not sure if it truly makes a difference.

Probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. The last couple devices I setup as new. Especially my iPhone, which I was restoring since the original iPhone. I have found less errant behaviour when setting up as new. But can't say for certain the clean setup was the reason.

These days my philosophy across all my devices (computers included) is to keep up with major and minor OS updates, but new hardware gets a clean install. For me it's not a big deal because I use configuration profiles to setup a lot of stuff and I also have very few third-party apps.

Don't think it matters, I just couldn't be bothered to put all my stuff on it. Takes ages for me due to what I have on it.

This Smart Keyboard is great. Certainly one of the things I missed from the having it before.

lol why would you NOT use that feature? What do you have to gain by re-downloading and re-logging into tens to hundreds of apps?

Yea I havent opened mine from the box yesterday so curious if it matters how it is set up as new versus restore and the experience in the long run.

I can't believe I didn't open it last night but was completely swamped. Will be a fun unboxing and set up tonight though with a beer and enjoying my Butter from another Mother.
Even if it didn't I would still set my devices up as new just for the peace of mind

That could be. But it is equally likely that those who see a tremendous difference in smoothness are a member of that rare breed of human with X-Men-like superhuman vision... y'know, those who can identify individual pixels on a retina display 5 feet away. #shrug

Mutant and proud (even though I still need glasses, those darn dead pixels pester me from the beyond). :p:D

The difference in the screen and pencil latency are most welcome.

I have had my 12.9" for a couple of hours now. First impression was that it came with a long cord, well as long as the ipad has always been. It came 86% charged, plugged it in, didnt time it but it went to 100% fast. And that was while downloading my Apps during setup. So I'm good there. Next thing I learned, I had to learn how to type on it, different keyboard than the ipads I have been used to. Next I am loving the larger screen, with that said, if I had to hold it to use it, I would not like it, but I have a little stand with an adjustable back. Works in my lap or on a table. But that's the reason I got the 12.9". So far I'm loving it!

So it charged the pad while you were setting up and doing stuff well thats good to here, yah with the battery life i determined I wouldn't need to be topping it off ever so luckily I wont have to buy the USB C fast charge $80 solution

Yes, I almost went ahead and ordered it with the ipad, glad I didnt. The other thing I have noticed is that once loaded, the storage on the 12.9" shows 4.86gb and the 9.7" I am replacing shows 8.22gb. I setup the new one from a fresh backup of the 9.7". And I ordered 256gb on the 12.9" lol

Your preaching to the choir man.

The one reason I defined the advantages of setting up as new versus restoring the iPad for a back up, is so other forum members are familiar with what can happen during the install process. I knew you were aware of this.

As somebody who loves watching YouTube videos before bed the extra screen coming from 9,7 really is great. Easy to forget how good it is for video watching.

I actually use my Apple Pencil far more now with this size.

Another of my first impressions. 2nd day now, am getting used to different keyboard and really liking it. I dont know what my problem is tho, I cant appreciate the improvement in refresh rate, ProMotion, things like that. But, I started out in 2012 on an iPad 2, next got an iPad 4 with Retina screen and I thought the colors looked sharper on the IP 2, so yeah I have some problem. I also thought this new 12.9 had too small of typeface for its size so went into Settings and increased the Text Size but nothing changed in Safari

Great device. Changed from iPad Pro 9.7. Perfect screen, minor backlight bleeding, but nearly not to notice. Great size for reading and watching movies.
Only thing I noticed: when I "squeeze" the iPad near the homebutton it makes a sound like a breathing air sound. It is not happened with normal use, just when I press the screen with two hands. No reason for me to exchange, just wondering if others also experience this issue.

Not present on my 12.9"

No black light bleeding either.
Can you use it in bed?

Am doing so now. Smart Keyboard makes for a great stand in the lap. Very sturdy.

Cannot change text size in Safari, there are other browsers that you can. Off the top I cannot remember which though. Was most important to me when I had a Mini which was quite awhile go but haven’t really used another browser but Safari since to be honest when I got larger IPads.

I just picked up my 12.9 inch Pro and have arrived home to set it up and migrate into my workflow here are my impressions within the first 10 minutes.

3. The device although large feels very light for the size and feels significant in the hand but not bulky or uncomfortable.

Please feel free to ask questions but I wont be doing any tests for people, simply because I don't want to install a bunch of apps on my new iPad. ;)

Are you planning to buy Apple or generic smart case? Just curious to see if it is bit heavy or not?

Here's another reason for setting up as new. I am just now seeing this issue. I set my new 12.9" iPP from my 9.7 iPP backup. Every where I look now, this 12.9" is described as iPad Pro 9.7" i.e. ICloud Backups or anywhere in Settings where you would see the device name. I have corrected the name in General>About but that doesnt correct anywhere else in Settings and I cant figure out how to change it manually. Really dont like it showing wrong name in iCloud Backups.

Ive had the Apple one since Day one I love it it adds very little bulk (think thicker Smart Cover) and the keys are fantastic, I will admit folding and unfolding is a little awkward but its not really a issue.

I'm still waiting on my 12.9", hopefully arriving next week. So, atm, I have lots of time to ponder. Well, when I'm not on this forum with my 9.7" iPP. Anyway, just wondering about those setting up by restoring on the 12.9". When I got my 9.7", setting up as a Restore from my ipad air 2, downloading my Apps (and not many at all) it seemed to overwhelm my 9.7" ipp. Took into the next day to get all loaded. And the ipad air 2 I was using to restore from had around 20gb total storage on it. Just wondered if I should just set new 12.9" up as New because of this? All my Photos/documents are in icloud and my Apps are in Purchased in the ios app store. Right?

That's wierd. I setup from a backup of my Air 2 and it took less than 1.5 hours. I had about 100gbs of content added.

I wouldn't back up from old to new any Apple product if you don't have too. Even Apple tells you this if you ask. It only takes some more time to download your apps from the App Store and all you work is in iCloud or another cloud.

You have a new operating systems and you want to download parts of old operating systems.

If you don't use most of you apps on you iPad or iPhone then delete them and only have apps you use.
